The Beautiful Edge of the World B&B is located on a working coffee/macadamia nut plantation. As a pilot in my earlier life, I've traveled to every corner of the Hawaiian Islands, and decided this area is the best of the best (in terms of weather, things to do, and the general feeling of nature here). We've been hosting folks from about the world for more than 15 most enjoyable years. We're not so big, not so small, but maybe optimal size for interacting with other interesting travelers.

Beautiful views, attentive hosts (that make delicious breakfast and let you borrow swim gear). The space is not new or "ritzy", but clean, comfortable and is evident lots of creative energy and TLC has been put into it. It is fairly secluded, which could be a plus or a minus depending on the person.

Response from Kurt:
Thank you for the kind words, Devin. I agree with almost everything you wrote. Agreed it's not "ritzy'but the house is extremely well built. Most guests are impressed with the koa hardwood floors and cabinets, the size of the rooms, and everyone is gaga over the vast balconies looking out to the ocean. I guess "secluded" depends on one's frame of reference--five minute drive to a shopping center and a dozen restaurants, ten minutes to some of Hawaii's best snorkeling. It is about 20 minutes drive to Kona's main tourist draw, Kailua-Kona, for which most of us are happy to be "secluded". As a generality, folks who come to Hawaii to feel nature are happy to stay here, while those looking for maitai's and hula girls are not. Thanks for staying with us !

We stayed at Kurt's place for one night. Kurt and his wife are very friendly and welcoming. The information they gave us before coming were very accurate and amazingly helpful. The room was very spacious, perfectly clean and had a huge balcony with a stunning view on the west coast of Big Island. We had to leave early in the morning. They made sure we had breakfast before leaving and made us try their coffee. Excellent! This is definitely a great place to stay! Thanks again for having us!

This was our second stay at Kurt's. Kurt and Kana are wonderful hosts. The location and the house are very convenient and extremely clean. Our room was big with an enormous bathroom and a wonderful view of the bay. We had an extremely healthy and tasty breakfast with locally grown fresh produce from Kurt's farm. Kurt is one of the most interesting, well traveled and nice people I have met. We had good conversations over coffee and breakfast. We will definitely stay there on our next visit.

Wow, what a nice review ! You give us much to to live up to (we'll try our best). It is so nice when folks return to the Edge for a second, or third visit--sometimes with new kids in tow, always with new chapters of their life experience. It's one of the many perks of doing what we do (now on our 15th year). In some regards it's like traveling without having to pack bags. And it's meeting/hosting people like you that make it such a joy ! Thanks for coming back. Kurt

This is a wonderful place run by a delightful family. Communications from inception were excellent. Kurt solicited some information about us and how we hoped to spend our time there. He provided personalized suggestions. His wife provided charm and glorious breakfasts. Other guests provided stimulating conversation. And the beauty of the place provided a constant background. These are good people in one of the loveliest spots on the planet.

Sorry Kurt wasn't there but Ken and Susan were great hosts. Instructions to The Edge were precise and we had no problems finding it. Pacific room was big enough to fit all 5 (traveling with 3 children) of us and the private bathroom is very spacious. Everything was very clean. The view from the porch is amazing and breakfast was delicious (thank you Susan). All the extra equipment which is a BIG EXTRA for backpackers is very helpful but some of it needs to be replaced. The hosts were very helpful with all the informations...Kurt, you picked out very nice housesitters!

Kurt and Kana were wonderful hosts. We enjoyed the delicious breakfasts and the Kona coffee. The view from our balcony was absolutely stunning and we enjoyed sitting there and watching the sunset. Furthermore, Kurt provided lots of advice and recommendations for what to do during our stay. We also appreciated the snorkeling gear and boogie boards that they offered for free use. We would recommend this beautiful place to everybody and like to thank Kurt and Kona for the wonderful stay at the Edge of the World.

Aweee, what a glowing review. Thank you, Larissa. I want to say that it is having guests like you folks that make us enjoy what we do so much. As they say here, "mahalo". Best wishes to you, Kurt

Kurt and Kana and Jenna are wonderful hosts! The place is beautiful, the view gorgeous, and Kurt makes it clear that although he loves to meet and hang out with people, the place and all its amenities are free for you to come and go. Loved the fact that we could be fully equipped for the beach. Getting there is not difficult, but the encouragement of his detailed directions is essential - make sure you print them out or have them on your phone! We had a great evening hanging out and talking with Kurt - it was a lovely way to spend new year's eve.
