Do you have a special Birthday ? Anniversary?
How about a work retreat ? or do you want a break from concrete jungle ?

This home is perfect for resting, relaxation, restoring. It is fantastic for preparing meals as a group and having a decadent dinners with close friends or colleagues.

There are three buildings on the property and you will have access to two ( the main house and gym/studio) plus all the amenities.

There are many great homes in this area. Although our home is truly a retreat. I once wanted to own a spa and the closest I have come is adding endless amenities. The grounds are beautifully landscaped allowing for a walking meditation admiring the wonders of nature.

Using our outdoor walking labyrinth calms your mind as you weave into the center and out. Adjacent is the hot tub to soak your weary bones.

The outdoor living room cabana is equipped with a gorgeous stone fireplace ( we provide the wood for your convenience use as much as you like additional fee does apply). A glass of wine and the flames of a fire are a great way to end a summers day. Lounge by the pool and or revitalize in the sauna, you choose. Keep in mind the pool is open seasonally.

We have a king, full, and three twin mattresses on the second floor ( which sleep 7 people). The trundle beds are great for overflow and perfect for night time use. The porch has a pullout couch. The porch is perfect for summer nights. There is one queen size beds in the studio above the gym. Keep in mind the Barn / outbuilding is a rustic experience and does not contain a bathroom. More simplified :

1 king
1 queen
1 full
3 twin mattresses
pullout couch and futon on porch
Futon in studio

The only question you will be asking yourself each day is which means should I use today to relax? Perhaps take a bath in the claw foot tub surrounded by candles in the master bedroom? Or indulge in a steam shower? Or lounge on the deck off the master bedroom? Or do you love to cook?

Our sunlight kitchen with Viking stove with 6 burners and griddle allows for plenty of creativity and hours of entertaining.

One charming feature of being in the Garrison area are dirt roads and driveways. We are preserving this feature and have a dirt driveway (A wet spring could mean a little mud).

Wireless internet and cable are available.

We are a two minute drive to the metro north Poughkeepsie line train station or a 15 minute walk.

Lastly, we thrive on feedback and suggestions only in this way can we continue to enhance the beauty of this retreat space. If you rent with us know that you can contact us anytime to assist in making your stay delightful.

Some of our guests have rented this home for corporate retreats, special small birthday parties celebrating 30's, 40's, 50's ( groups of 8-12 ) etc,as headquarters for a local wedding ( the bridal party gets ready at the house and heads out to the venue) and more.

Lots of options. What are you waiting?

Guest Access

Guests have access to all amenities.

Interaction with Guests

We will be away most of July and August!

Interaction with guests are kept to a minimum unless of course you need assistance. Whenever possible I do a walk through of the property creating a lay of the land. Otherwise we can accomplish the same walk through over the phone. Also a black binder has the house notes which you can resort to if any questions arise.

Although we are sometimes on the premises given some recent changes to the rental policy, we are virtually invisible. The house, red barn and amenities are yours.... ENJOY ! We will be away most July and August

  • My friend and I had a great weekend staying in this house. We enjoyed the outdoor amenities such as the pool area and outdoor fireplace. The area was very rural. Cold Spring is a 10 minute drive away and had a cute downtown.

  • I used this beautiful house as the "home base" for my wedding party, as my husband and I got married at The Garrison this past weekend. My bridesmaids stayed with us so that we could get ready together in the morning on the day of the wedding, and we all had a great time. Claudine was incredibly sweet and responsive to my emails/requests. All in all, it was a fantastic house with its quirks and charms. It was stinkbug season apparently, so I did find that a bit disconcerting waking up next to a bunch of them, but I suppose that's just the geography/climate for you. I do look forward to staying here again!

One quick comment: I didn't realize that only 3 of the rooms are in the main house - the 4th room is in the Red Barn and is above the gym. Also, the Barn does not have a bathroom in it.

    Response from Claudine:

I am thrilled your group had a fantastic stay in Garrison. With “The Garrison” wedding mill only five minutes away, this location is ideal.

I have a solution for the stinkbugs which keeps them at bay. I wish you had let me know they were buzzing around. Fortunately stinkbug season is short and painless. I have lived here for 13 years and the most stinkbugs seen at any given time is three in one room. While I am working on my laptop in bed one stinkbug may visit the computer screen as they like the glow/warmth. To a city dweller not use to nature, one stinkbug may seem like many. Rest assured unless you glow like a computer screen that is the only way you would be surrounded by them.

Correct the barn offers a rustic experience- no facilities!

    Thanks again.

  • Claudine was a wonderful hostess- even had a nice warm fire for us when we arrived in the evening and the lights on- and the house was very clean, comfortable and cozy. Claudine worked very hard to make our stay enjoyable by communicating with us and was extremely kind and helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better hostess.
The home was in a very convenient location, close to town, but secluded enough to make it a private as well with plenty of room outside. Really a great place.
Thanks Claudine. We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to return.

  • Airbnb,

I would be greatly appreciative if you would allow me to post a review for Claudine's home. I missed the expiration date due to a college sports competition. Her home and service were unprecedented in my airbnb experiences. Claudine is an excellent host and her property provides a very unique set of amenities that make any stay very comfortable. The kitchen, hot tub, and sauna are particularly awesome if you have a large group. We stayed comfortably with 10 people for the entire weekend.

The only recommendation I would make is for Claudine to add a section to her description advising visiting groups to not bring more than 2 or 3 vehicles as the driveway can become fairly crowded.

    thank you for your time,

    Response from Claudine:

Keep in mind we had the most snow fall this winter. There were mounds of snow everywhere during February. The red barn was a three car garage and the bay in front of each door could be used to line up the cars. Unfortunately mountains of snow prohibited this option. Thank you for staying with us,

  • Overall this experience was a huge disappointment and I would not recommend staying here. Perhaps this was primarily due to the fact that we booked in the middle of winter and the property is really set-up for summer rentals so amenities like the pool were closed and the gym and sauna, which are separate outbuildings, were more unpleasant to access by walking through the snow. Our biggest let-down however, was the service. Claudine was unprepared for our stay and this was punctuated by the discovery of brown stains on our bedsheets at midnight on our first night, followed by the discovery of a pair of women's underwear upon stripping the bed. After searching through a cluttered closet for another set, we found all the sheets to be stained or misfit for the bed. Other housekeeping disappointments were: ALL the towels had the mildewy smell from a front-load washer that had not been sanitized in a long time, floors were unclean, we felt unwelcome in the sauna due to dirty pool furniture cushions piled up for winter storage. Planning on cooking a family dinner and a breakfast on Sunday, I found dirty and dusty pots and cookware throughout the disorganized cabinets and after cooking dinner, abandoned the plan of cooking breakfast. The pictured Viking stove had broken and missing knobs and in the end, even my dinner plan for a London Broil had to be adjusted by a non-functioning broiler. The beautifully pictured bathtub was not working but we were not advised of this before arrival.

This was my girlfriend's and my daughter's birthday weekend and we were all disappointed to find the house had an overwhelming "lived in" feeling. There was a overbearing sense of the family's presence throughout the house, especially in the bedrooms, including their clothes in the dressers, etc. No one slept in Claudine's daughter's bedroom because they felt too uncomfortable with the "One Direction" posters plastered all over the walls, which are not pictured in the listing. The highly cluttered laundry/toy/play area adjacent to the kitchen was an eyesore and could easily be closed off with a locked door for or even a curtain with a "Private" sign on it. As for hosting decorum, we also felt uncomfortable that Claudine and her children move into a small shack on the property while guests occupy the house. We really had the impression that this was a weekend home, not that the family lives in the house full time and stays on the property during guest stays. We were shocked when Claudine freely entered the house on Saturday morning to get items out of the basement. She didn't knock or ring, but simply walked in. For a property that was listing at $900 per night one would think that the owner would knock, ring the doorbell or call and apologize for disturbing her guest.

    Response from Claudine:

Let me start by apologizing that you had to read the dissertation. My response will be equally lengthy as there are two sides to every story. I have contacted Airbnb regarding this matter. Not only are they considering removing it but they are aware of this type of tactic to cover up damage caused to the property. Ironically, Mark made a monetary reimbursement request from me after I submitted my damage claim. Keep in mind this follows a $600 reduction given to Mark at the time of booking. What Mark omitted to mention is how his grave disappointment lead to utter disregard and disrespect of my home:

*I returned home to a broken couch there was no mention of this nor an apology.

*The $350 Wiiu cord went missing I have asked for him to research a replacement yet no response. I don’t want him to have to purchase another Wiiu but the system is useless if it can’t be charged.

*The broken candleholder in the bedroom where Mark and his girlfriend slept was not acknowledged.

*After using the sauna they left the cushions which were in the sauna outside in the elements and it snowed again no acknowledgement nor apology.

*My house notes details completely ignored. The notes indicate what to do when checking out, I returned home to dishes piled up and a garbage and garbage bag in the kitchen.

There were more signs of disrespect and disregard which occurred but I think you get the picture.

I have been doing vacation rentals for 8 years and this is the first book written by a disappointed guest. I suppose had I refunded the $300 Mark requested THREE WEEKS “after” his departure my review might not have been so harsh. The house notes binder clearly states how the house is set up and how we use it. We are here 70% of the time therefore the his/ hers master bedroom closet is completely empty (minus extra blankets and pillows). During the summer months all the drawers are empty. For our winter weekend guests the master closet with empty drawers seems to suffice. From the bird’s eye view you get a lay of the land and if taking 10-15 steps to the sauna and 5-10 steps to the gym are problematic then Mark is right this place is not for you.

I have separated sheets into guests sheet and house sheets, if you do not know this system which I have never had to explain to a weekenders then the closet of linen could be overwhelming with varied size beds on the property. I have separated the sheets and labeled them accordingly. I received a very strange message from Mark about the sheets which caused me to be suspicious as I made the king size bed myself. I had just laundered the other layers that day. The flat and fitted sheets I put through the wash myself. I don’t know about you, but I have to walk to all four corners when making a king size bed. I find it hard to believe I would miss this brown stain.

I did not know I rented to the Vacation Rental Inspector who would scrutinize every last detail of the house and my lifestyle. After all this is a house not a hotel. Yes there are relics of the people who live here 70% of the time. There are many details mentioned which are a grave over exaggeration. If you would like I can walk you through each and everyone of Mark’s comments. For now I will address some statements otherwise you will be reading for a while. I do not have dirty pot and pans in my oven. I worked with my cleaning people that day to accommodate this last minute rental and again I had just cleaned the oven and checked the cookware. The cook top of the Viking stove works fine. Not many people use all 6 burners at once. One knob is missing but having five functioning burners will satisfy most chefs on the Food Network. The knob and broiler are on my list of items to address. The playroom is exactly that a playroom. I have since weeded out game boards that my kids have out grown. See the photo which will be / has been added.

Our “Cabin” which Mark refers to as the “shack” is the most cozy charming, private spot on the whole property. The interior walls and floor are made of warm pine plus a lovely wood burning stove and a sleeping loft. It resembles a welcoming cabin in Colorado. Given some changes in how the property is offered we now stay here to make sure all is well with our guests and the neighbors are not disturbed. I clearly stated in my listing two of three buildings are for my guest’ use and the other I occupy. Once guests are settled we may or may not vacate to our other place. At any rate we are virtually not here. I no longer show pictures of the interior of the cabin/ shck as it is not available.

Lastly, this is a service business. I understand and respect my guest’ privacy! I ALWAYS knock on the door before entering. I prefer to be a invisible as possible when we have visitors. As a matter of fact I explained to the teenagers that I need to get something from the basement and entered from outside. This way no one was disturbed. I am not sure how else to be polite but Mark has lots of suggestions so perhaps he can help me here. This is my eighteenth review. One bad temperamental, fault-finding review out of seventeen good reviews is not bad. Please consider the aggregate of the reviews versus a mutually exclusive opinion.

No home is absolutely perfect, especially if you take a microscope and are searching for faults. This is a house, not a hotel which I open and share with my guests. I was quite pleased to see Mark and his family enjoying the gym in spite of it being 15 steps from the main house. Homes are a work in progress just as we humans are a work in progress.

I take feedback seriously and have already made adjustments. I strive to provide a peaceful clean space for my guest’. When Mark texted indicating he had a laundry list of complaints, I arrived with a pen and notebook ready to address the issues. Had said he would speak with me later as he was preoccupied and did not. Had I been given a chance, certain items would have been remedied prior to his departure. By the way, I immediately purchased a brand new set of sheets (I am still not certain what went wrong there, rest assured hygiene is of the utmost importance to me. Even Airbnb is baffled by this claim).

I thank Mark and his family for shedding light on certain areas. You may wonder if I would have them back and the answer is absolutely NOT. What I have to offer is not to his preference. I wish them well with future rentals. Future Vacation Rental owners BEWARE - The inspector is on the way.

I will end with… the beauty of Airbnb is there are all different types of rental scenarios, it is up to the guest to determine what they are seeking.

  • We had a great stay with Claudine and recommend staying here. The house is cozy if you want to get away somewhere close to NYC. The hot tub, steam shower and wifi all worked really well.

Claudine and her kids stay in a guest house and there if you need help with anything.

    November 2013
  • Claudine made her home accessible at the last minute and was a gracious host. She stayed on the property with her family, but we rarely saw them and they were always helpful!

    September 2013
  • Claudine's home is wonderful! We had a great time there for a weekend bachelorette party of yoga, cooking, lots of wine, and a drawing class.

She and her family stayed on the property and had to use the downstairs bathroom on occasion, but that wasn't a problem at all, and it certainly felt like we had the run of the place.

    September 2013
  • Claudine was a warm and gracious host and her large house was a perfect gathering place for our family.
