The 1910 house has all its original chestnut trim, along with high ceilings and Victorian decor. The upstairs bathroom was recently renovated with subway tiles, a whirlpool tub, and white wainscoting. The TV access includes Amazon and Netflicks for those who want to kick back and watch a good film.
The rail trail is a stone's throw away and lovely for cross-country skiing, hiking, and biking. Guests enjoy walking to the Village Market for breakfast, lunch (open until 7pm), and casual dinners, or to Cafe Mio. Lombardi's, a lovely Italian restaurant (homemade pasta and bread) is a short drive down our road.
Interaction with guests
I am social, but I respect guests who seek alone time with minimal interaction, as well. My wish is to accommodate individual tastes.
Gardiner recently installed sidewalks and quaint-looking street lamps. I enjoy walking, hiking, and cross-country skiing on the railtrail (a short block away) and walking to the Village Market for great coffee, breakfasts, salads, sandwiches, and baked goods. Some of my favorite restaurants are close by: Lombardi's Italian (homemade pasta), Mountain Brahaus, Tuttill House at the Mill, Cafe Mio, Village Market. The Enthusiast is a fine wine shop, walking distance. It's a charming, friendly town.
Smitty's in New Paltz (15 minutes away) offers cheap car rentals. New Paltz also has a Trailways Bus Station, for trips to NYC, for example. Metro North has stops at Poughkeepsie and Beacon with less expensive tickets to NYC and a great senior discount.
I'm an English teacher (World Lit and British Lit), a bass guitarist in two Cajun bands, a hiker, reader, and social being. I was born in Iceland and came to the beautiful Hudson Valley when I was five, and I've been here ever since (except for one year teaching at the Universite de Franche Comte in Besancon, France). I enjoy live theater, concerts, festivals, film, dancing, the outdoors, and house parties. A people person, I enjoy meeting new friends and exploring new places.
