The Hanuman bungalow is a little cozy home for short and long term guests.
It is separated from our other rooms and has a small kitchen, nice bathroom and terrace with a daybed where you can enjoy the few to the nature.

The Space

Balila guesthouse has 5 rooms in different locations.
All 5 rooms are lovely furnished, have hot water, fan and a private terrace looking into a green garden.
We provide in all rooms drinking water so the guest can refill their drinking bottles 24hrs.

'Hanuman bungalow ' is situated in front of our family house.
It has one bedroom with a queen size bed with mosquito net and fan, a semi open bathroom with hot shower, a mini kitchen.
The terrace has a daybed incl. mosquito net and is looking into the garden.
If wanted, a 3rd person can sleep on the daybed outside.
It is not so quiet like our other rooms because it's the room closest to the street but still fine.
The bungalow is very suitable for single persons who want to rent it for a month or so.
We have WIFI but the connection in the bungalow is not so good, but you can use our kitchen for a better connection.
Please be aware that we are surrounded by nature and it can happen that a gecko or frog visits you!
This listing is for the Hanuman bungalow only!
Please look and book separately for our 3 other rooms:

In the back garden are 2 rooms (purple and orange) next to each other in a little house that is surrounded from a tropical garden. Both rooms have their own semi open bathrooms with hot showers.
The king fisher hut is also in the back garden but is a small single wood house.
Moon room is attached to our family house and has its own bathroom and little terrace looking out to the garden.

We serve healthy breakfast and try to be environment friendly as much as possible.
The next and biggest yoga center (yoga barn) is only 7 min. walking distance away.
In our street are many international restaurants, galleries, mini markets, ATM s and art shops.
The famous 'ARMA Museum' is our direct neighbor.
Our location is very close to the center but we are still surrounded from a tropical jungle with lots of birds, butterflies and frogs.

My husband is also a driver and tour guide and he can bring you around all Bali.
With our knowledge about this island we can help you to find the best places!
The family consist of the parents (from Austria and Bali), a little girl, 1 dogs and 1 cats.
Please come and have look!

  • My boyfriend and I recently had a lovely stay at Balila. The location is great- truly walking distance to shops, restaurants, the Monkey Forest, etc.- and the space itself is really comfortable. Favorite features were the outdoor bed and open air bathroom. There isn't air conditioning, and the room can get quite hot, but they do provide a fan which helped a bit. Additionally, something to note is that you can only get a weak (at best) wifi signal in the room and you'll need to walk to the main house for a stronger signal. Overall would recommend!

  • My stay at Balila was so beautiful and peaceful. Birgit, Made and Wayan were all wonderful and I was treated with such kindness and warmth. The bungalow is perfect for an extended stay in Ubud. It's cosy, charming and private with everything you could possibly need on the doorstep. Wayan's healthy breakfasts were delicious and every morning I looked forward to seeing her and saying hello. I was very sad to leave - if I had more time I would have stayed far, far longer. A month just wasn't enough! It really is a wonderful place and I can't recommend it highly enough.

  • It was really nice to stay in Balila, I had a great time there. I really enjoyed sitting in the balcony doing my work, and the garden in front of the bungalow gives you enough privacy. Made, Brigit and Wayan have been so welcoming and friendly. I really enjoyed talking with them at breakfasts. :))

  • Are you looking for a lovely place where everybody gives you a warm welcome? You wanna be close to the centre of Ubud but your home stay should also give you the possibility to be on your own room (or terrace) surrounded by a nice garden and a peaceful atmosphere ? And you also like a nice and healthy breakfast?
If everything applies THEN you should definitely come to Balila. I stayed here for more then two month and it was just amazing. All in all Balila is an own little paradise :). Terima Kasih banyak to Birgit, Made and Wayan :)

  • I spent one month at Balila while I was doing my yoga teacher training at the Yogabarn. It was perfect and authentic. Wayan's breakfast's were amazing and Made and Birgit were lovely hosts! The perfect place to stay if you visit Ubud, it's close enough to the hustle and bustle but far away enough to be the perfect retreat. I would definitely stay again! Thanks Wayan, Made and Birgit!

  • Went there with a friend for 3 nights and had a real good time. The bungalow is really really nice and clean with lots of sweet furniture and decoration details that make you feel at home. It's located a bit off the main street of Ubud though in walking distance to the center and quite close to Monkey forrest. Birgit herself wasn't too talkative but we mostly had to do with her help Wayan which was super sweet anyways. Wifi signal is pretty low and didn't really get better in the kitchen either but there are a few restaurants around (Mamma Mia for example which serve great italian food as well) with free and reliable wifi.
Other than that you'll get a real yummy breakfast and Birgit and her husband also have a great bunch of tours to offer for a real good price. All in all definitely recommended :)

  • All staff were very helpful in getting me set up. The breakfast in the morning was very good. I only stayed here one night. The room was clean and the bed comfy. I couldn't get hot water too work in the morning but I made due without. It takes maybe 10 minutes to walk to the main monkey forest area. There is a large bird or something that lives in the roof and is a little bit creepy at first. but there is no way for this creature to get in, so best to ignore it, although for light sleepers it does move around and make lots of noise. Overall a good stay.

  • I stayed 2 nights in the Blue Room Bungalow at Balila in late June 2013. Balila is hard to find when you initially arrive but if you tell your driver it is near the ARMAN cafe or have them call the host, all will be good. Your first greeting is from the family guard dog that barks verousously but not to worry that is all he does, and then he goes back to laying on the porch.

I found my bungalow to be quit nice; spacious room, double bed, tiny kitchenette and nice size inside/outside bathroom. The only thing on the Blue Room is at night you may experience hearing some kind of critters playing on the roof. Nothing to worry about, it is just nature at work - just role over and go back to bed.

Breakfast on my bungalow porch each morning was a wonderful atmosphere but the breakfast was amazing; eggs, toast with butter and jam, coffee or tea and a wonderful fruit drink. Simple, beautiful and enough.

I thought the location was just perfect. I have read some reviews saying it was far from Central Ubud but I walked everywhere and loved it!

When I was looking for a place to stay in Ubud my requirements were air conditioning, pool and wifi. My Blue Room Bungalow at Balila had none of these and it just did not matter! I loved my stay and wish I could have stayed longer but they were booked for me to obtain additional days - I think the good location, great value for your dollar and all the excellent reviews is the cause of that.

Like another reviewer said, if you don't love this place then you probably are more of a big resort type of person . . . which is ok too.

I hope to stay at Balila again!

  • I spent a week in the bungalow in Ubud. Everything was perfect. Short walk to grocery store so I was able to make full use of the little kitchen. Wayan's breakfast was delicious and timely. Thank you Wayan!!
Conveniently located right next to the ARMA museum, and everything in Ubud was walkable. Brigit was very helpful with directions, advice, and a ride to the airport.
I would definitely reserve on my next trip.
