Ubud tourism focuses on culture, yoga and nature. In contrast to the main tourist area in southern Bali, the Ubud area has forests, rivers, cooler temperatures and less congestion although traffic has increased dramatically in the 21st century. A number of smaller "boutique"-style hotels are located in and around Ubud, which commonly offer spa treatments or treks up Ubud's mountains.
We have an open kitchen in our main house which guests can use if they want to.
There is also parking space for motorbikes and cars.
Interaction with Guests
We are most of the time at home and can provide lots of information to our guest.
We are located next to the ARMA museum and so you can listen to their daily dance performances for free!
This is a cultural Must for Bali visitors!
But don't worry, it lasts only 1 hour and ends around 8.30pm.
We can provide airport pick ups, other transports and tours for our guests.
We do not allow to smoke inside the rooms, but on the terrace its no problem!
Please refill your drinking bottles with the water we provide so we all can reduce the plastic bottles on the island!
I had a pleasant stay at Balila. The moon room looked exactly like the photos. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious. At night though, i was visited by a gecko and a frog. Both harmless. And they added to the charm of the place as it was simple yet very nature friendly. Breakfast was good also. I had a fruit smoothie every morning which was freshly prepared together with coffee, eggs and toast with homemade jam. I made a few friends at Balila as well, solo travelers like myself. I would recommend Balila, esp as everything is walking distance in Ubud. If you do not like to walk, renting a motorbike to get around would be more convenient for you. Made, Birgit's husband, was also kind enough to hook us up with a car which we rented for 2 days for a good price. If you are looking for a simple yet comfortable stay, Balila is the place for you.
This was my first experience and stay in Ubud. The room was quiet and peaceful with a gorgeous bathroom. Hot/cold water with a bathtub. A beautiful private patio where you could hang and write. The hosts were extremely pleasant and helpful with my questions. They do have a house dog that's getting a little old and growls sometimes which I wasn't a fan of. Breakfast was delicious with the best home made jam I have ever had. It's close enough to walk to, my favorite, the Yoga Barn and Monkey Forest. I would recommend staying at this place. It was a nice introduction to Ubud.
I feel so fortunate to have chosen Balila for my stay in Bali. I stayed for 10 days at the artistically designed Ubud Guesthouse and for 3 days in a brand new villa overlooking the ocean, at the magical Amed Beach Resort!
Made picked me up from the airport with a big smile and later in the week gave me a private tour. Made is from Bali, so he knows all the best places to see that aren't filled with tourists. Birgit has been living in Bali for 12 years so she is a wealth of information on everything. I highly recommend asking her for guidance, as all her recommendations were awesome! She seemed to know exactly what I like.
Their staff at both places have a passion for heartfelt service and making sure you have everything you need. The kitchen is open for gathering and good conversation, they give you advice on where to go for spa treatments, shopping, touring, eating, etc; yet when you want privacy and to be alone, no one will ever bother you in your room.
I chose Balila because it was a 7 minute walk from Yoga Barn, walking distance to Monkey Forest and many shops and restaurants off the three main roads. I was travelling solo and didn't have an international drivers license, nor did I know how to ride a motorbike, so getting around on foot was key. Anytime I needed to go further an easy taxi via motorbike or car was right around the corner.
I spent the first 5 days doing my own thing in peace and quiet then later opened up and met other solo travelers and couples there. I even enjoyed a day out and about with each of the three solo travelers that I met. Seems the "right" people with something in common all tend to come to Balila intuitively.
The rooms and land are exactly as the photos described. Very open, spacious, awesome bathrooms and jungle surrounding, but what you can't see is the family vibe that is held sacredly by Birgit, Made, their beautiful daughter Lila, the staff and animals on the land. The cats and geckos are the best! Thank you all for your devotion.
It was an honor to stay at both Balila locations, become friends with the hosts, staff and fellow travelers and I look forward to returning when it's in the flow to visit Bali again!
I'd loved to stay in the moon room. It's quite and not far to the centre. By motorbike or by food.
The room was very clean and every day refreshed.
Also the stuff is so nice and helpful.
I would definitely recommend to stay there.
And also you have to try the lovely and beautiful accommodation in Amed. It's also rent by Birgit and Made.
Im a return guest, so the actions speak! :)
My family and I stayed here for 3 nights and we had a good time.
The breakfast is superb as usual, my family and I enjoy it very much.
Thanks Birgit, we will return again ^^
A nice place that is not too far from Ubud centre. When I arrived, the room was as clean as it could be given that it is not a fully-enclosed room. I received great hospitality when I was there and even when my flight was delayed and I reach the house past 1 am, checking in was still effortless. Thanks for making my short weekend stay a pleasant one.
This place is really close to all the hustle and bustle of the main streets and Ubud, if you are looking for a place thats walking distance to Yoga Barn and into town this is a great option. For the money its great value and the wonderful family and Wayan make a killer juice in the morning with breakfast! So nice to end the day of adventure with a long bath in this private airy bathroom.
