Ubud tourism focuses on culture, yoga and nature. In contrast to the main tourist area in southern Bali, the Ubud area has forests, rivers, cooler temperatures and less congestion although traffic has increased dramatically in the 21st century. A number of smaller "boutique"-style hotels are located in and around Ubud, which commonly offer spa treatments or treks up Ubud's mountains.
We have an open kitchen in our main house which guests can use if they want to.
There is also parking space for motorbikes and cars.
Interaction with Guests
We are most of the time at home and can provide lots of information to our guest.
We are located next to the ARMA museum and so you can listen to their daily dance performances for free!
This is a cultural Must for Bali visitors!
But don't worry, it lasts only 1 hour and ends around 8.30pm.
We can provide airport pick ups, other transports and tours for our guests.
We do not allow to smoke inside the rooms, but on the terrace its no problem!
Please refill your drinking bottles with the water we provide so we all can reduce the plastic bottles on the island!
I just spent a wonderful 3 nights at the Moon Room at the Balila B&B in Ubud. The accommodations were simple, beautiful, clean, and extremely comfortable. Birgit was a responsive, helpful, and down-to-earth host and it was a real treat to converse with her and other guests at the kitchen table over the wholesome complimentary breakfasts of made-to-order eggs, whole grain breads or oats, home-made jam, fresh fruit or smoothie, home-grown herbal teas and Balinese coffee. Birgit's helpers Ayu and Wayan were lovely to hang out with as well. Birgit provides a fabulous guidebook with culturally aware and sensitive insider's recommendations for local spas, eateries, and excursions. The location was ideal... a peaceful compound directly next to the stunning grounds of the ARMA Museum and delicious ARMA cafe and Thai restaurant. All the action of Ubud's center is just a 15 minute walk away.
Folks who stay in the Moon Room should note that it is close to the kitchen, so you can hear the pleasant conversations and laughter of the breakfast table from your bed beginning around 8 AM. I enjoyed this natural alarm clock, but folks who wish to sleep in might want to consider one of the other rooms in the Balila compound which are separate from the main house. My only other suggestion is to bring a reading lamp, because the tasteful lighting in the room is more atmospheric than bright. However there's a well-lit private porch overlooking a sweet, tuneful frog pond just outside the room with a comfy cushiony bench, big table, spring water dispenser, and candle lantern .... a wonderful place to read, write, or just stare at the stars and beautiful plants that surround the house.
I wish I could have stayed longer at Balila, and will surely return there when I'm lucky enough to travel to Ubud again.
The Moon Room at Balila is a beautiful place to explore Ubud from. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Birgit is a wonderful hostess with a great family who have open their home to visitors.
Staying at Balila was beyond my expectations. It felt like coming home. Birgit, Lila, Made, Wayang & Ayu made are all so warm & lovely. (also happy to meet Zach, Annelous and Debbie - meow) I extended my trip with 5 nights and I could easily stayed a few more weeks. I hope you have space when I'm back in Ubud. And I will definitely check out Ahmed. Thank you all. Love, Imara
Moon room and your house was very comfortable place to me. Especially I like sitting on the terrace, and listening to rain. Breakfast is very good, too.
Thank you, Birgit and Wayan!
Thank you for one week.
Balila is an awesome place to stay in Ubud. I stayed longer than I intended too. Very friendly staff. Everyone is very helpful and friendly
The breakfast is tasty. It is also close to the yoga barn. The rooms are set back from the street so it's quiet
The Arma arts centre is next door with a beautiful garden and tasty food
I really liked the place and would definitely recommend it.
I am also spending some time at Balia beach which is amazing. So wire and peaceful compared to busy Ubud. The place is newly built with a lot of attention to detail. And very worth while a visit
I had a pleasant stay at Balila. The moon room looked exactly like the photos. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious. At night though, i was visited by a gecko and a frog. Both harmless. And they added to the charm of the place as it was simple yet very nature friendly. Breakfast was good also. I had a fruit smoothie every morning which was freshly prepared together with coffee, eggs and toast with homemade jam. I made a few friends at Balila as well, solo travelers like myself. I would recommend Balila, esp as everything is walking distance in Ubud. If you do not like to walk, renting a motorbike to get around would be more convenient for you. Made, Birgit's husband, was also kind enough to hook us up with a car which we rented for 2 days for a good price. If you are looking for a simple yet comfortable stay, Balila is the place for you.
