The Space

Every visitor is treated by me, in the same way I would like to be treated, as a guest ...
Smoke and Pet Friendly Peaceful Bedroom in Brooklyn
This is a warm and friendly home in a safe family neighborhood

PEACEFUL BEDROOM
Private, sunny, very clean, bedroom (measures 12' x 8') includes 2 twin size bed, closet, desk, large mirror, LCD TV with Apple TV, celling fan, heater and window AC in the summer. Bedroom is located next to the bathroom. Free Wi-Fi, fresh linens and towels provided. Bedroom has curtains (for total darkness) and cubes/bench to support your luggage.

APARTMENT
The apartment is on the second floor without an elevator in the building (16 steps up to the second floor). There are only two apartments in the building. This is a very large 3 bedrooms apartment (for NY standards) with great sunlight and hardwood floors in the bedrooms and living room. In the hallway, kitchen and bathroom has white ceramic tiles. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and you are welcome to use it. There is a smaller fridge in the kitchen for the guest(s). The living room and the Serene Bedroom are located by the entrance of the apartment. Kitchen, bathroom and the Peaceful Bedroom are located in the middle of the apartment. The third bedroom, which we call Zen (but never available), is located on the end of the hallway. We have an iron and an ironing board, several hair dryers, there are Q-tips, cotton balls, toothpaste, shower gels and shampoos/conditioner available for use, which will make your life easier if your trip is brief.
In case you cannot use your international cell phone here, you can use the home phone to make local calls or calls within the US; the phone is located in the living room. If you need to make long distance calls you will need a phone calling card that you can buy at any Deli store.

LOCATION
In the heart of Bay Ridge - Brooklyn, very safe family oriented area surrounded by parks. It is perfectly located to everything: restaurants, diners, liquor stores, drugstores, banks, supermarkets (Key Food & C Town), laundromats, walking distance to shopping stores (email hidden) (Century 21, Gap, TJ Max, Modell’s sporting goods, etc.) coffee shops and cinema.
The apartment is located two small blocks from the subway (R train - Bay Ridge station), one station away you caught the express train N and it takes only 35-40 minutes to midtown Manhattan (Times Sq.), 20-25 min to Chinatown, Soho, and the Village. On the N train you can be in the Atlantic Ave station (where the new Barclays Center is located) in 10 minutes and over there you will find several train lines to transfer to. Please be aware these timings are possible during the day, non-rush hours or late at night (after 1AM), the subway/bus system operates 24/7.
If you need to take a taxi back home, it is about:
- $25 from LES (plus tip, usually we give 15%)
- $35 from Times Sq. (plus tip)
- $40 from upper east/west side (plus tip)
We are located very close to JFK, Newark, and LaGuardia airports (20-25 min car ride, around $35-40 from JFK & LG, from Newark airport, you will be charged extra for the tolls & the taxi is $60).

DETAILS
All renters are required to put down a security deposit, $150 and you do it through the airbnb site. There is also a cleaning fee $20 per week/per person ($10 per person if you stay only two days), this will be paid to me in cash upon arrival (I would do it thru airbnb, but they take a percentage out of it and I don't want to add that on, making it more expensive for you). If you stay for than 8 days, I will change your sheets and towels for clean ones and your bedroom will be vacuumed and cleaned weekly.
You'll be sharing the apartment with a mature and considerate female roommate ( and two friendly kitties that you rarely see, and one small friendly dog...therefore you must like pets and you are not allergic to them), they sleep with us and you can keep your bedroom door closed if you don’t want the pets to visit you. We are smokers, therefore you can smoke too. If you don't smoke, it will not bother you, because the windows are always opened/ashtrays are always empty/home is always clean and if you keep your bedroom door closed you will not smell it because we are located in different parts in the apartment (we had several non-smoker guests and our smoking was never an issue for them).. Plus we will not smoke in front of you if it bothers you. This apartment is big and each room is located in separated areas of it. I work Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. This is a LGBT friendly household. I'm Brazilian but I have been living in NYC for more than 20 years, I speak fluently English, Portuguese, Japanese and Spanish (I understand Italian as well). I have a great knowledge of the city and if you are a foreign I will help you to go wherever you want to. A clean home is very important to me, and due to the presence of the pets, I make sure I keep our home very neat.

If you have a small & friendly, trained dog or cat that you would like to bring with you we are open for the possibility (pets are vaccinated and spayed/neutered). There is no charge for your pet.

NEIGHBORHOOD
BAY RIDGE RANKS AMONG THE TOP 10 SAFEST FOR THE ENTIRE CITY AND IS AMONG THE SAFEST NEIGHBORHOODS IN BROOKLYN. Bay Ridge has earned its reputation as a place where New Yorkers can enjoy the fruits of their labors. The neighborhood came in No. 7 in per capita crimes on DNA info site ranking of 69 neighborhoods.
Bay Ridge has many international restaurants and bars, especially along 3rd and 5th Avenue, its main commercial strips. Many refer to the community as "Brooklyn's Gold Coast." A popular neighborhood attraction is the 69th Street Pier, at Bay Ridge Ave (aka 69th Street) and Shore Road. This popular pier is a favorite to the local fishermen who fish there daily. Very close to the pier is Owl's Head Park. This park is a 27-acre walking park that has a state of the art skate park, children's playground and basketball courts. Most of all, you can have the best view of the Verrazano Bridge. Did you know the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever was set in Bay Ridge? In the summer you can go to Coney Island a 30 min train ride and enjoy the beach, the oldest amusement park in the country and the NY Aquarium. On a 20 min train ride you can go visit the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, or Prospect Park, or the Brooklyn Museum, all located next to each other.
Love to play golf?...just few blocks away from the apt, the Dyker Beach Golf Course is a beautiful 18-hole championship course located in the heart of Brooklyn, below the shadows of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Dyker Beach Golf Course is convenient to get to, located close to both the Belt Parkway and the BQE. If you are using public transportation they are just 4 blocks from the R Train Station and across the street from a Manhattan express bus stop, from the apt a car service (taxi) will cost you only $7.00.

Please note: Returning guest(s) will receive 10% of discount on the future bookings.

  • This was my first time outside my country. I was quite apprehensive about the whole travel and where i would live for over month with no family or friends around. I went purely by the good reviews Maria had, and was not disappointed.

    The host Maria Luiza:
10 on 10. A wonderful, hardworking and good hearted person. She spoke to the cab drive on my way from the airport to ensure he dint take me astray. Made me feel at home the moment i stepped into her place. Gave directions to good places to visit and all i required to know about the place around me. Over and above, made me feel like family and at home.

The house and room: Completely as described . A clean and comfortable place. I could not ask for more.

Pets: They didn't bother me at all, even though am not a pet person. Just keep you room door closed if it bothers you.

Neighborhood: A safe clean residential place. Never did i feel out of place or insecure. Stones throw away from the subway, and well connected to Manhattan and most tourist destination of NY. Lots of grocery shops, restaurants, laundry places around which are reasonable priced as well.

I would like to thank Airbnb & Maria for the wonderful stay. If i had to do it all over again it would be still Airbnb & Maria.

  • I was looking for a quick solution for a room for 40days... I found Malu, she is the perfect host and she become a real good friend! The house it's very comfortable and to only 30min by Subway from Manhattan.

  • Adriana and Malu are both very affectionate people who are so accommodating and pretty laid back. I stayed with them for about one week with my small dog. They made us both feel like we were in our own home. They were very open to letting me use anything I had forgotten which was so helpful. The apartment is very clean and in a nice quiet area. It's almost as if you're not staying in the same city, as most people in the area are very nice. There's a small park a block away which is good if you have pets. It's about 45 mins to an hour or so on the subway to midtown Manhattan, but very accessible. Thank you both!

  • It's a really accommodating room, the beds are very comfortable and the room is just the perfect size. She was always very attentive and it is very very clean. She's very kind and so so charming! I will absolutely recommend her to my friends and family. The dogs are a wonderful welcoming committee and it was a very fun environment!

  • What a perfect spot!

Adriana was the perfect host in every way possible. I stayed here for 2 months, and it was just what I hoped for. Everything on the ad and reviews I found to be true. Adriana goes out of her way to make you feel at home.

She has great energy, is kind, caring and extremely resourceful as a guide to NYC. I felt completely safe, comfortable and cared for being at her place.

The apt. is located in a very convenient area of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn - just a few blocks around the corner to the subway (just 20 mins. or so into Manhattan), restaurants, shops, the gym, drugstore, post office, library, park.... I could find everything I needed right here in the neighborhood.

Very quiet, peaceful and the room couldn't have been a better fit. I loved all her special nurturing touches. Plus, if you like a little animal love, she has the sweetest dogs and a cat I loved the companionship with (and if not, they won't bother you).

You will be lucky if you get to stay with her. :-)

  • This was my first experience with airbnb, and I could not have been more pleased! Adriana's home is lovely, and she keeps to an extremely high standard of hospitality.
From the moment I met her I felt comfortable and very welcomed. She tracked my fight and already knew I would be delayed. I was in town looking at apartments for my relocation (I was a bit nervous about the whole process) and when I arrived she already had the real estate listings out for me and made sure to offer me a cup of coffee and some much needed apartment search advice!! She is just the best! :)
Her little pets are precious, her home is extremely clean and my room was ideal.
As stated in other reviews, her area of town is very safe, and her home is a 3-5 min walk to the train - so convenient. The R train is a straight shot into Downtown Manhattan.
I am recommending her to anyone I know moving to NYC or visiting the city.

  • I stayed at Adriana's place 4 nights with my daughter. I grew up in Brooklyn and know the area well. The apt. is located in a good, safe neighborhood. The subway to Manhattan is a 5 minute walk and there are many restaurants, stores, and even a movie theater nearby. We felt very safe walking home at night. Adriana is super friendly, welcoming, and easygoing. We stayed in the room with 2 beds and it was comfortable for the 2 of us. The apt. is well designed and all the rooms are separated enough so you don't hear any noise from the other bedrooms. You have free access to the living room and kitchen. There is one bathroom, but it was never a problem to get in. Adriana is good at communicating via cell phone, knows the city well and gives great ideas for places to eat and entertainment. Even though she has pets, they mostly stay out of your way and she takes good care of them. I will stay there again as I have family nearby - it's a good value and Adriana truly makes you feel at home!
