Beautiful and walkable

This area is scenic and easy to get around.
The NYC Suite has a sunlit bay window overlooking the Mauch Chunk Opera House, Marion Hose Bar and the Historic District. Sip coffee and people watch, enjoy the changing fall colors or in winter feel like you are in a snow globe.
The unique layout of the 2nd BR with a full size bed + trundle bed has its own private entrance to the hallway to allow privacy. The 2 BRs share a full bathroom. We also have a drip + Nespresso coffee maker. Bring your favorite sleeve of coffee. We provide some pods.

The space
Welcome to a charming, perfectly situated townhouse in the heart of downtown Jim Thorpe! This property offers a truly unique experience across each floor, providing the cozy comfort of a relaxing vacation getaway while making you feel right at home. Each private suite is fully equipped with all the amenities you need.

The NYC Suite is a standout, featuring large bay alcove windows that flood the space with natural light, creating a bright and enjoyable atmosphere for your stay, no matter the season. Please note this suite is located on the second floor, so stairs are required.

Because we occasionally use the apartment ourselves, there are two locked closets for owner's use. All other closets offer ample space for our guests' belongings.

This home was built in the 1850s, and as is common with historic properties, sound does carry. Please be aware that you may hear the folks above you in the third-floor apartment. Personally, I have never been bothered by this, but we want all potential guests to be aware.

Due to the original wood flooring between apartments, we no longer permit any children under the age of 10 years old. We have found that the normal running and heavy footsteps of young children carry significantly to the apartment below (it can sound like a trampoline!). With all good intentions, this property is simply not the best fit for that demographic.

Guest access
A Note on the Space:
Your private, smoke-free apartment is nestled on the second floor, accessible via two flights of stairs in a quiet, historical building. We kindly request that you report any indoor smoking immediately to maintain a pleasant environment for all guests.

Shared Amenities & Spaces
While your apartment is exclusively yours, please be mindful of other guests in the shared common areas, including the hallways, stairs, and basement laundry. Laundry Facilities, a unique feature given Jim Thorpe's riverside location, are in the basement and include a front-loading Samsung washer and dryer and a slop sink. We appreciate your consideration in conserving water usage. The Second-Level Deck is a shared outdoor space that offers seating and a grill; we ask that you clean and tidy this area immediately after use as a courtesy to others. For safety and space considerations, storing bikes inside the building or in public access areas is strictly prohibited.

Outdoor Relaxation & Grilling
Step outside to enjoy our brand-new, two-terraced backyard! The Main Dining Terrace features a full dining setup and a new BBQ grill with gas or charcoal options. Please ensure the BBQ is cleaned thoroughly after each use, leaving it ready for the next guest. Feel free to ask us for recommendations for purchasing local, fresh grilling meats! A second, cozy spot, the "Coffee Corner" Terrace, is perfect for morning coffee or an evening appetizer.

Entry, Parking, & Noise Courtesy
Flexible entry is provided using a key fob and a secure lockbox. Off-street parking is located about a five-minute walk from the building. While a car is helpful, it’s often unnecessary for enjoying local attractions. Please remember the apartment requires navigating two flights of stairs. As a courtesy to others, third-floor guests are asked to be mindful of foot noise in the apartment and hallways during Quiet Hours (10 PM to 8 AM), as the building features old, creaky floors. This is a simple request and has never been an issue for our guests.

Explore Jim Thorpe!
Guests consistently love the area for its variety of outdoor adventures, engaging museums, excellent shopping, and diverse local dining options.

Other things to note
Pet Policy
Dogs will be considered upon request, but acceptance is not guaranteed.
If approved, a non-refundable $40-per pet (per night) fee is required. You must message us and include the following information: “My dog is house broken, will be crated or if/when left alone the dog has good behavior—meaning the dog does not bark excessively nor damage property—especially the scratching of doors. My dog is treated regularly for ticks and fleas.”
Dogs are not permitted on the furniture and may result in additional cleaning fees. We strive to maintain a clean spotless property and want to continue welcoming the love of your family dog.

Parking Information
On-street parking near the house is now strictly for local permit holders only. Please pay close attention to signs.

Your designated parking spot is located in a lot just a 1-minute drive from the house. From the lot, it's a short 5- to 10-minute walk past the historic jail to reach your rental home. Additional parking can be made available with advance notice and additional fee.

Occupancy
The base rate covers double occupancy (2 people). Additional fees will apply for any guests beyond the initial two.

Neighborhood highlights

The NYC Suite of the Amsterdam House is located steps away from Opera House Square, the quaint shops, fun restaurants and a 5 minute walk to the historic train station.
We are perfectly located in the heart of the Historic District. We recommend that you unload your belongings and walk to everything for an enjoyable stay.
Assigned Parking is a 1 minute walk/5 minute drive from the house.
There is a local shop to rent bicycles at a very reasonable price or if you bring your own bicycles--we no longer have basement bike storage. We have something better--A nearby locked garage. Please let us know ahead of time because I do use the garage for my car when there are no bicycles.

I'm raised midwestern and have lived in Manhattan for 30 years. Love to travel. Sometimes solo. Sometimes with friends or my partner. And, occasionally, when I am most fortunate, I travel together with my mini schnauzer-named Copine. I crave more outdoor activities like bike riding, scuba diving, skiing and barbecues--just to name a few. The theater(s) of New York's Broadway Or Londons Westend are a passion!!
