Visit paradise! Our 500 years old, eco-friendly farmhouse overlooks Assisi and it's countryside. Each room has a splendid, vast and peaceful view on the rolling green hills, private bathroom, individual vintage decor. Only 10 min drive from Assisi.
Our home is a centuries-old farmhouse overlooking the beautiful medieval town of Assisi which is only 15 min drive from us. We rent a few quiet rooms all with a magnificent view of Assisi's world famous basilica, dedicated to St. Francis and housing some of Italy's most important art treasures.
Our place is a quiet oasis both day and night, an ideal spot to unwind. You will awake every morning to the sights of the rolling Umbrian hills and the medieval town of Assisi perched on the Subasio mountain. You can linger for hours watching the sheep graze in the fields, sunbathe on the terracotta-paved terrace or sip a glass of wine under the grapevine arbor.
We have renovated our rooms with great attention to details, so that each has its own character. Every room is tastefully decorated with wrought-iron beds, antique cabinets and handmade fabrics.
The two rooms on the ground floor are in the oldest part of the farmhouse and feature impressive stonewalls and beamed ceilings. The first-floor rooms are bright and colorful with large windows. All rooms are equally comfortable and all offer breathtaking views of Assisi’s valley blanketed with meadows, forests and olive groves.
All guestrooms have reading lights, beautifully tiled en-suite bathrooms and radiant heating beneath the terracotta floors. The position of the house high up in the hills (600 mt/1800 ft above sea level) guarantees cool nights even in the height of the summer.
our vacation. Even though we have no self catering facilities, a small refrigerator is available to store drinks and sandwiches.
Since the beginning of 2012 we have turned green. Heating, electricity and hot water are produced with renewable sources, such as the sun and wood from our own land.
We also produce our own olive oil using no pesticides or fertilizers, only sun, wind and rain.
Your stay with us will be a unique experience of family life in the Umbrian countryside, we are loking forward to meeting you and share its secrets.
The vine-covered patio and terrace are perfect spots for al fresco picnics on summer evenings.
You will enjoy breakfast in the large sala that has been decorated with beautiful local pottery. There is a lounge area with free wireless connection and a comprehensive collection of pictures and guidebooks to help you plan your day. If, on the other hand, you can tear yourself away from the garden and its panorama, our home is conveniently located to explore Umbria's beautiful medieval hill towns. Assisi, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto and Perugia and the Sagrantino wine region as well as Tuscany's splendid Renaissance city Siena, Cortona are all within about an hour’s drive.
To stay with us you need a car as we are in the countryside and there is no public transport.
If you enjoy walking, the Subasio natural Park, the Franciscan Path of Peace and the Saint Francis Woodland Project are only minutes away.

I can not begin to say enough about our truly wonderful stay at del Piatto Alla Madonna B&B
in the hills above Assisi.
Our host Letizia Mattiacci was
charming and delightful as was her husband Ruurd. The rooms were clean and well furnished
with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and Assisi.
We took a cooking class with Letizia which made our stay just that much more special! del Piatto Alla Madonna B&B is just a short drive from Assisi and the road though rural is a breeze to navigate. I without reservation recommend this lovey B&B!
It has taken us a long time to get here. We, Letizia and Ruurd, have worked for many years as research entomologists. We have lived in several countries, including France, the Netherlands, Ruurd’s home country, and the United States. We traveled extensively before we realized that it was time to settle down to a family life. We agreed that the Umbrian countryside - where Letizia comes from - was one of the most beautiful places on earth and that was where we wanted to live.
In 1997 we bought an abandoned farmhouse, we restored it, transformed it into a countryside accommodation and we replanted a 250 trees olive grove. We also have a few hectares of grains, woods, a vegetable- and a herb-garden. Last, but not least, in 2001 we had our daughter Tea and in 2007 our dog Google.
The origins of our home date back some five hundred years, with the oldest structures likely built as a watchtower or a fortified refuge for shepherds.
Our first B&B guests arrived in 2003. As experienced travelers, we have always loved to stay in small inns with a local character rather than a standard hotel. However, the enthusiasm of our guests for the beauty of our land and their appreciation of our family-style hospitality has far exceeded our expectations. We are grateful to all of them for having visited us on our magical mountain and for contributing to the enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere of our house.
