Downtown Bethesda, walk to Metro

Apartment - Private room · Strathmore Street, Bethesda, MD 20815, United States

The Space

My 2 bedroom 1 bathroom cozy condominium is superbly located close to the nation's capital in downtown Bethesda, Maryland. Step outside and you are one block from restaurants, movies, shops, and the Capital Crescent bike path. Walk 3 blocks to reach the metro, and in 20 minutes you'll be in downtown Washington DC. It's an even shorter metro ride to NIH, Suburban Hospital, Naval Medical, and close to American University. Giant, Safeway and Trader Joes are an easy walk. I like to walk or bike to Whole Foods which is one mile down the Capital Crescent bike trail.

The room is 11' by 12' with windows on two sides, and nice light. It's furnished with a bed, a desk, and a closet with shelves and hanging space for your clothing. Curl up and read on the couch, or use it as a sleeping space for an additional guest. It's very comfortable! The room is clean, bright and freshly painted.

You'll share the space with me, your host. I'm a mostly vegetarian nonprofit professional working in international development, education and youth leadership. I enjoy yoga, dancing, hiking, biking, and anything to do with nature. I'll provide coffee, tea, and a space for your groceries or restaurant left-overs. You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare your meals.

Rent includes parking (a must in downtown Bethesda!) and high speed internet. Washer and dryer facilities available.

The best thing about my condo is LOCATION! If you want to be within easy reach of downtown DC, visiting Bethesda for a conference at NIH, etc., it can't be beat!

Please note that there is 1 full size bed that can accommodate 2 people. The couch can accommodate another person as well, but the room will feel pretty crowded. There is an extra fee for additional people.

  • Debra is kind, gracious, intelligent, flexible...just to list a few of her delightful qualities. Her home is cozy, comfy & quiet. It is in a great location for me...on a quiet street, easy walking distance to a downtown with all I may need, including a Metro stop. My only regret was that my schedule did not allow more time for the good chats we had.

  • It was a pleasure to stay at Debra's place. The apartment was beautiful, clean and the location was very practical (just a few blocks from the metro). Everything went really nicely with Debra, she responded fast to my messages, was very flexible and most of all, she was very nice!

  • Great location, comfy. firm bed for aging backs, abundant hot water for long showers. I enjoyed my stay, Debra was a gracious host, even leaving a dark chocolate bar on top of the fluffy towels on my bed when I arrived. Her condo is located in downtown Bethesda, short walk to restaurants, movie theaters and the metro. In spite of construction next door, I slept soundly, a credit to the older building with thick outside walls. I had my own shelves in the bathroom and kitchen. Debra was always considerate, quiet and respectful.

  • debbie is a lovely individual. overly accommodating and welcoming and willing to chit chat. though of course one would typically prefer and recommend advance notice, she was able to accommodate, and cheerfully so, my wonky travel plans dependent on a local nearby business. LOCATION is "downtown" bethesda, which could hardly be more convenient--about a 10 minute walk to one of two distinct nearby eatery linear few blocks. a cvs pharamacy and a local farmers market of food and "stuff" is a convenient a 5 minute walk. easy 5-10 minute walk access to the red line metro for anywhere between a 20-30 minute ride to the heart of dc to metro center, gallery place for easy connections to the amtrak station, national or dulles or 1 stop away to upscale shopping in friendship heights if that's your thing. the condo complex is tucked away on a quiet street and is on the ground floor so there's super easy access and almost no steps. the APARTMENT itself is an eclectic, quaint, cozy space with a well sized guest room and VERY VERY FIRM bed, great but quiet AC unit for hot summer days and nights i were there. lots of natural sunlight but with good shades blocking out early am sun. debbie even cleaned out the br closet as well as fridge and shelf space for me if i wanted to use the kitchen and offered tea, coffee, water daily. small but ample and clean bathroom with awesome shower water pressure with a window yet still private. OVERALL it was a good stay with a great host and decent value for the cost of living (bethesda housing is insane). i'll presume most people will be here for business or perhaps to offset bethesda or dc hotel prices--which is a perfect reason to stay. might a bit "far" for daily trips into the district for guests who have sightseeing in mind but a good way to save money if you have the extra time and very conveniently located to the necessary metro stop. if have a car, the drive to into the district via connecticut street is quite scenic, with a few suburban town hubs along the way (the road trails the metro line) and debbie offers a parking spot right out front. i would recommend this listing for the reasons all stated above and debbie as a host! thanx debbie!

  • My stay with Debbie was very enjoyable. She is extremely accommodating of her guests, making space in the kitchen and bathroom, and providing essentials like an iron & board, blowdryer, and guides for the local area. The bedroom was very comfy and roomy. She was kind enough to give me rides to the NIH campus on two occasions - when it was pouring rain and when I had my luggage, which was out of her way and very kind. She also brought me to her yoga studio for some fantastic classes, and we enjoyed some great food and conversation throughout my stay. An all-around positive experience.

  • Debbie was hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable about the local area. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to get to know her and the work that she does to help the Azawak.

The room is spacious and comfortable. I really appreciated having space in the pantry and fridge so that I could save some money by cooking instead of eating out (although there are many great eateries in downtown Bethesda).

The apartment is really close to numerous shops, restaurants, and the metro station in Bethesda. It's also extremely close to the Capital Crescent Trail, which was a highlight of my stay!

  • Debbie provided me a very nice experience sharing her guest room accommodations. Her kitchen has a brand new glass top stove on which I saved quite a few dollars by cooking dinner instead of eating out all the time. She shares fridge space and shelf room to store non-perishables. With the humidity starting to build in this part of the country, the ice-cold air-conditioning felt great. Separate AC units in the living room, Deb’s room and the guest room make everyone happy. Closet space is small, but I brought quite a bit of stuff since I was staying for 3.5 months and it still worked just fine. Her apartment is on the ground floor so you don’t have stairs, except for a few to enter the building. She doesn’t have pets, so if that’s a concern you have no worries. (I personally missed having my kitties around, but so it goes). I stayed with Deb primarily for her close proximity to the Metro Red Line. Around an 8 minute walk, it was super convenient. Convenient buses run all over the place as well. On numerous occasions I popped into DC to catch a show or a concert.
Every store imaginable is in walking distance. Her condo has giant, brand-new clothes washing/drying machines in the next building that are amazing. They’re industrial strength, high grade and the washing machines are free. Quarters get it all dried in no-time, which you can feed one quarter at a time. Deb is an easy going, big hearted person. Considering we never knew each other before and then shared space together for 3.5 months, we got along great. This is a great place to stay in the DC/MD/VA area whether you need a place to stay for a few days, weeks, or like me, even months.

I even brought my bicycle with me, which Deb was gracious enough to let me leave in the hallway with HER bicycle. We both squeezed by them every day, but I was so thankful to be able to have it there; lots of great bicycle trails are easily accessible in the area. Ask Deb about them and she'll show you where they are. It’s also a super safe, clean area. No worries even coming home from DC late at night. Two thumbs up all around. :-)

  • Debbie is a thoughtful and generous host. Her place is neat, clean and beautifully decorated with lovely pottery that she made herself. A quiet, safe environment is also of great importance to me. The place is quiet, and I always felt very safe in the neighborhood. If you need a place to stay that is convenient, well-kept and friendly, this is it. Debra is a great person who has dedicated her life to running a charity to provide wells for the peple in Niger.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed in Debbie's room for 3 nights in January 2013. Debbie was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the local area. The room was comfortable, spacious, and quiet. Would happily recommend.
