KOOLIO HOUSE on Frenchmen Street
WALK TO THE FRENCH QUARTER!!! (please view map)
This is a rewly renovated 2 bedroom house with super comfortable pillow-top mattresses in the king and queen bedrooms. There is also a pull-out sofa in the living room and a day bed for one in the front room. An air mattress or two can be inflated if need be. This is a shotgun house, so you do walk through each room to get to the bathroom at the back of the house. Bright and sunny eat-in kitchen with all the usual: full sized frig, gas stove, microwave, coffee maker. Save on a few meals by cooking and eating in some of the time. The key feature of this home is that it is on Frenchmen Street. 2 1/2 blocks across St. Claude. Those not familiar with the various neighborhoods of New Orleans, may not be comfortable in this section. It is, however, just several blocks from the best music venue in New Orleans. I have two other properties on Airbnb and hope that you'll take a moment to read a few of my 40 + glowing reviews. I try to be at your disposal with questions and/or assistance if at all possible.

Karen's place was perfect for our needs. We comfortably slept six and it was very close to the french quarter and some of the great places on Frenchmen Street. Karen also made some great recommendations for places to eat and things to see, which was very helpful!
We had an amazing time during out trip to New Orleans. We were incredibly comfortable in the house with our small group of four. Our main reason for our trip was music and we were within walking distance of one of our favorite venues, The Spotted Cat. I can understand why some might want to take a taxi at night, though we never did and felt perfectly fine. I cannot emphasize how great the location was, we seriously couldn't have picked a better spot. It's just far enough away from the action that it was a great, quiet escape at night. Karen was incredibly quick to respond to everything both before and during our stay. She was flexible with our check-in time and welcomed us with all sorts of suggestions and cold beers. There were all kinds of great suggestions, tour guides, magazines and the like throughout the house. We combined her suggestions with our previous knowledge of the city and had a great time. I completely recommend Karen and this listing. We will definitely consider this as an option during our next trip.
Just spent a long weekend and loved our stay. Karen is a great host---easy to contact, quick to respond, and flexible with our late check-in and early morning check out!!! She even drove us out to a place to ear when we arrived late from NYC. House was a comfortable fit for people. Towels, toiletries, and hairdryer provided...oh yeah, even free Wifi!!! Walkable to French Quarter and but yes, take a cab back to the house when at night. Would stay here again and thanks for making our stay a great time!
Myself and 5 friends stayed very comfortably in this house for 3 nights. The location is convenient to the French Quarter. Karen was great about flexible check in and check out, and welcomed us with a tour of the neighborhood. Definitely recommended!
We had a really great experience here! The house was very conveniently located, and super comfy. The hostess was extremely helpfull, and we had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again! If you do choose this house, we highly recommend Gene's poboys down road for a late night snack... it's a little dodgy, but the hot-sausage poboy at 3 a.m. was one of our favorite stops.
The reservation was canceled 245 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Karen is a wonderful host. Very accommodating and helpful. We had a group of 7 and the house was plenty of room. Close walk or cab ride to Bourbon and the local bars on Frenchmen. Karen is very quick to respond and easy to communicate with in the rental process. She is also very flexible with the check in and check out times. The house felt very homey and comfortable. She left magazines, taxi cab numbers, and extra toiletry/travel items--anything a traveler would need. Loved the place and had a great experience! Would definitely rent with Karen again.
First off let me tell you, Karen is great, super great when it comes to the whole booking process, super quick to respond, super quick to offer advice.
The place is as described in the pictures (don't forget, shot gun style house, have to walk through the rooms to get to the bathroom).More than enough for two couples, this house fit our needs perfectly. The area around the house, appears a little run down, and for some who are looking for an area that "looks safe" this isn't it. However, even at night I didn't feel in danger or compromised at all. After a long day we would sit out back and have a few drinks to wind down; while the neighbors watched movies on a projector in the back yard. We did take Karens advice and taxi home at night just to be on the safe side.
Parking was easy right in front of the house. May have to work for two spots, but easy enough for one. If you have a really really nice car, you may feel a little uneasy leaving it there, but over our three day stay, my car stayed in perfect condition. There aren't any places to eat right next to the house or anything, but there is a walgreens right there, so that was really convenient.
The house was very lovely and looked just as it does in the photos. A great deal of thoughtful touches, including weekly magazines with recommendations (which Karen was also happy to share), phone number for a taxi, map of the area and toiletries in the bathroom. Really everything you might need is here. The house is located in a maybe not so great area, felt fine during the day, but taxi by night would be advisable. Not far at all from the French Quarter, very short walk (less than 10mins) and closest to all of the great music venues on the south side of Frenchmen Street.
Karen was a great host and met us at the property upon arrival. Easy process, all communication was answered quickly. I would definitely recommend to others looking for a place to stay in New Orleans.
Could not have had a smoother stay with Karen. While our paths did not cross in person, she was incredibly attentive and available for anything we needed, before, during, and after our stay. Her house is excellent for a small group and was very clean (even had a few complimentary Abitas in the fridge!). As the other reviews say, and Karen would confirm, you'll want to take a cab back after dark the 3-4 blocks from all the action. No big deal. Frankly, you should do that anywhere in NOLA! It was even closer to all the fun spots on Frenchman (Spotted Cat, dba, etc.) than I thought. We had a blast and would absolutely return to her place. Thanks Karen!!
