Absolutely loved our stay- wish my husband's and my whole 2 week holiday was booked here! Beautiful property, peaceful, private setting and everyone was so nice and helpful. We flew home on the red-eye and were able to leave our bags in the main house for the day and borrow beach towels......even had use of the shower before flying home!!! But possibly our favourite part were the crazy, loveable dogs Uila and Daisy and of course Frankenstein!! Oh ya, also loved the outdoor shower!! Would recommend Hale Moana and would definitely stay again. Thanks so much!
Loved it!! Marla and Moana were both so nice, the place is very charming. Loved the outdoor shower! Loved the location and her dogs and Frankenstein, her horse are all so sweet! Had a great time and plan to go back.
This place small, but super cozy! We stayed 4 nights here, and had a great time. Moana and Marla were wonderful about communicating with us, making sure that we had everything we needed.
Pros: very clean space, beautiful scenery, outdoor shower, basket of fresh fruits, stocked kitchen (you can definitely cook here if you wanted), water sport gear and beach towels provided, great hosts, friendly dogs who greeted us every day when we came back, cool wildlife (we saw multiple geckos and variety of birds), free wifi (only detected by laptop for us, not phones)
Cons: no cell or data service (for Verizon and T-mobile at least), mosquitos (but citronella candle and mosquito coils were provided)
Overall, would definitely recommend this place if you don't mind the outdoors and want to stay someplace more interesting than a hotel!
We absolutely loved staying here! It is definitely small but special. From the moment we arrived at the property you could feel a great energy surround you. The outdoor shower was probably our favorite part with loves from the property's dogs as our second. Marla greeted us and was very lovely. We had fresh fruit every day from the property and really enjoyed coming "home" to this peaceful cottage every evening. Thank you Moana and Marla!
Stayed 3 nights at Moana's place while in Maui. This place is truly special and a must. Very cozy and small enough for 1 or 2 people, but you'll want to be outside at this location. The grounds are filled with lush vegetation and fruits to be had. Don't buy fruits at the market if you're staying here. Moana was out surfing overseas, but her sister and family were very nice. Uila and Daisy were very friendly dogs that would welcome us home and visit once in a while. Not a bother at all. Kitchen is small, but has all the essentials. Bed is comfortable and (website hidden)/iPod dock/DVD players are nice. The outside shower...Wow...that is awesome. The placement of the building is perfect: porch looks toward the ocean, gets sunlights at an angle, view of fruit trees, is private, and it is covered. There is hammock for relaxing and chairs looking toward hale moana. The property is well kept, the place is very clean. I sat for a long time looking and listening to the birds. Very nice treat. A walk around the property allowed us to appreciate the different trees, plants, and flowers. The boogie board, cooler umbrella, beach towels, and snorkeling gear was great also. This side of the island is more damp, but when we stayed there it was sunnier than the other side due to winds from the South (Kona winds) dropping any precip. on the otherwise drier side slopes. Access to Ho'okipa beach (surfing paradise) was great, and at one end of the beach turtles come out to the beach at sunset. Another treat. Access to Haleakala National Park and the cool Upcountry (Kula, Haiku, and Makawao) is excellent. It took less time to go see the sunrise from the summit. Great botanical gardens, flowers for sale, Ocean vodka distillery, Surfing Goat dairy (awesome cheese), and many attractions like zip lines and bicycling down the volcano are in this area. Close to kahului and airport also. Beautiful place, great scenery, close to a lot of fun stuff, great hosts, and dare I say, romantic.
This place in Haiku is small, but the private, residential, semi rural setting more than made up for it. Staying here gave us an authentic Maui experience. There is a gate to enter into the 2 acre property. I felt VERY secure here. It was peaceful and I slept so well, compared to a hotel setting. The space is built onto the end of a huge greenhouse and somehow this created amazing feng shui. The siting of the home and overhang outside allowed us to sit on the porch at the table for all our meals whether it was raining, stormy or sunny. (Actually, there was no option for eating indoors as there is no room for a table inside). We also loved the outdoor tiled shower, again no indoor option. The kitchen is adequate for breakfast, eggs, toast, coffee and reheating, but lacking if you are planning on doing much more, in terms of cooking. Loved the variety of tropical fruits growing on the property; we were encouraged to partake in these! This area of the island does seem to be more rainy and cloudy but fortunately just a 30 minute drive West may offer Sun on those days. If you want to stay in a consistently Sunny place I am not sure Haiku is the spot. The place was very well kept up and while the owner was away her sister filled in and we had everything we needed for a seven night stay. This was our first time visiting Maui and in retrospect maybe should have split our time between Hale Moana in Haiku, and a beach town. I hope this is helpful to fellow travelers.
We had a wonderful experience with Hale Moana. This was a hidden sweet little home to us, and also a perfect place to explore maui. We had fresh fruits every day, nice dogs around, and this aloha feeling in the air! Thank you so much for sharing this spot of paradise!!
We have nothing but positive feedback on our stay here at Hale Moana. We were greeted by two dogs, the famous "Wee-lah" and "Daisy", and "Frankenstein" the horse. There's just something about pets that make your stay more comfortable. We were so glad we opted to stay at a house/cottage rather than a resort. We visited friends at a resort and all we can say is it was so much more relaxing coming home to a quiet and peaceful home than staying at a crowded and busy area. The town Paia was close by and the road to Hana was at our doorstep. The outside shower was awesome and it was never too cold to shower. We would definitely come back again, it was such a great experience.
Staying at Halle Moana was one of THE most charming and refreshing experiences we've had of late. The unit itself is so comfortable and cute (!)... the porch and surrounding vegetation are awesome. And if you like animals, this is a great place to stay! When we were there, their horse, Frankenstein, was located close-by (though I am to understand that he is normally in a larger pen somewhere else), and the two dogs- most particularly Uila (sp?) were SO friendly and welcoming. In fact, I'll confess that we were really quite sad driving away after she came by to say goodbye to us while we were packing our luggage back in the car. Regarding the general location: It couldn't have been better... short driving distance to the "cities" such as Makawao and Paia, and (most importantly for us!) right on the road to Hana (we elected to drive to Hana and back twice in several days because the experience was so magnificent. So... Stay here!!!
Moana's place was beautiful. The outdoor shower was especially cool! It was a pleasure to stay there and wish we could have stayed longer.
