Our slice of paradise consists of 225 acres of forested land nestled in the foothills of the Catskills near Albany. We are a homestead and small community devoted to the principles of organic farming and self reliance. We grow much of our own food and forage many types of wild mushrooms. You will be sure to enjoy the spectacular mountain views, friendly farm animals, and secluded trails. The house is spacious and decorated with landscape oil paintings.

The space
Lovely spacious farmhouse overlooking a stunning view of the Helderberg escarpment. The home is wrapped in windows on every side which frame the seasonal changes of the land. This house has been renovated a number of times, however the structure of the original homestead cabin is still in tact. That cabin is now the master bedroom, where you can see the hand hewn beams harvested from this land in the early 1800’s.
This rental consists of the two upper floors of a 3 level home. The basement studio apartment, Mountain View Suite, is another Airbnb rental.
The Purple Palace has 3 1/2 bedrooms. The 1/2 bedroom is a family room with 3 couches and a large tv. This room has a trundle bed that serves as a daybed and also opens up to two single beds. There is a full bath attached to the master bedroom and a half bath and single shower accompany the other bedrooms. There are 3 couches which can open up to beds as well.
The house is located on a working organic farm, with many friendly animals. Enjoy the lovely trails through diverse landscapes within our forest. We have several other unique rentals on the property for larger groups. We also have recently opened an amphitheater for music events out back in the forest.
(Older reviews are for upstairs only when we rented rooms in the shared house).

I am a aspiring homesteader and organic farmer with seventeen years of experience in the landscaping, arboriculture and plant fields. I earned a Bachelor of Technology in Plant Science from SUNY Cobleskill. Originally a native of the Finger lakes area, I moved to the Capital region seven years ago. My partnership in Magic Forest Farm begin in January of 2015. As a avid backpacker and outdoor enthusiast, I am passionate about getting people outside, reconnecting them with nature and their food. I am currently focusing my efforts on agritourism, selling the farm experience.

During your stay

I am a homesteader and rarely leave the seclusion of my farm. I will be happy to answer any question. Please don't contact me after 8pm unless there is a emergency, or problem with the accommodations. We also host volunteers from around the world, who are also glad to help and share their stories. We let guests enjoy their privacy, only interacting if guest wishes so. If you want to know about us or the farm, stop by the barn and say hello, or book a tour! Ask about feeding animals if you are looking for the free short mini tour!
