Nothing against smokers.
We arrived late at Monica's home, she's very welcoming, facilities are very good, to my surprise there's teeth brush, chocolate is very good, hot water issue doesn't need to worry! Great location!
Monica and Dragos were exceptional hosts, and could not do enough to make me feel welcome. We spent many an evening having a good laugh along with their friend Alex, and I really feel like we have a bright friendship ahead of us. I hope to see a lot of them in the future.
The flat is in a great central location just five minutes away from New Street station, and is great for anyone wishing to explore the city. Regarding the hot water situation, it's a switch. Just put it on around 30 minutes before you go to take a shower and then switch it off when you come out. There's nothing these guys can do about it, as it's an issue with the whole building and not just their apartment. I managed very well with it. The cats are lovely and there's one particular little ginger scallywag that I wished I could take home with me. However Monica does not let them into your room unless you permit it, and there were no issues regarding cat hair or smell etc while I was staying.
These guys will go up and beyond the call of duty to host you. It was a real treat to stay with them. All the best guys, hope to see you soon!
The room was big and the flat is in a great central location. Monica and the cats were very friendly. Flexible about 3rd guest and check-in/out times (we brought our own camp bed).
The ad is a little misleading by saying that 'Parking is available at the front of the block'- parking is NOT included in the price- instead there are on street parking meters.
Worse, though, was the fact that we couldn't get any hot water and ended up having to wash over the sink. We were given no warning or instruction about this- and it looks as though this is a permanent problem as many other people have mentioned this within their reviews. Personally, I don't think that's acceptable for paying guests.
You did not mentioned about any problem regarding hot water, especially when you showered in the morning and left the boiler on for may hours after you left. The boiler turned red after this. I did gave you instructions about everything: internet, how to close doors and how to use keys, fridge, boiler, parking, where to eat, where to go and what to visit.
I agree there are some problems with the pressure, but you have all the official notices sticked in the bathroom where it is clearly marked that they are changing pipes and boilers all over the block.
And to be honest you have signs and pieces of papers with instructions all over the house. I do not though you have needed an exemplification for how to press a button up and down. But you managed to make it work, as mentioned above, because it was working for many hours, as all the water evaporated from inside the boiler.
Lets not mention that you forgot to confirm if you were coming 2 or 3 persons. I found out last minute about the 3rd persons which you forgot to pay for.
Monica was a good host, the room was nice and the place is in a good location in the centre of town. A great place to stay!
Monica was a welcoming host during my stay. I was in and out very quickly so did not spend much time in the apartment. For the most part it served its purpose of being a place to sleep near the train station and within walking distance of a good part of town to walk around. The only drawback is the building was working on fixing the hot water so there was none of that in the morning and that there is only a bath. The tub has a detachable shower head but no curtain so any attempts to "shower" would leave the bathroom covered in water.
I have no complaints about my time here. The room is clean, spacious and has a lovely view. It has a double bed, a small sofa, and a wardrobe and towels, utensils and tea/coffee making materials are all thoughtfully provided.
A fridge and freezer are provided for guest use and the entire apartment is well signposted. I was out of the apartment all day for my entire stay, but the kitchen is also available for guests to use should they so wish. If you are a smoker, you are welcome to smoke in your room and ashtrays are provided, which is a rare treat today.
The tower block is only a very short walk away both from New Street Station and the ICC (where my business in Birmingham was), so it is very conveniently situated for central Birmingham.
There are three cats, which seem to range between friendly and shy, and I had no problem with them except for one who kept trying to get into my room (where they are not allowed). I did not experience any problems with cat odour etc.
The one issue you might find is that the hot water takes a while to run. This was not a huge problem for me, as a kettle of hot water in the sink allowed me to bathe adequately for the few days I was there, but it might be an issue for a longer stay.
For anyone who just needs a clean, comfortable room in central Birmingham I recommend giving this place a try.
First Experience of Airbnb did not disappoint! Ideal location just minutes walk from Birmingham New Street Station with a gorgeous view over the city. Stylish, clean, comfortable room, Monica's attention to detail really makes you feel at home. Monica and Dragos were extremely welcoming, offering local transport advice and had no problem with my late arrival and early departures. Highly recommend for a friendly stopover in Birmingham!
