Upon arrival I was unexpectedly asked for my full name & address! New to AirB&B I had thought AB&B had already provided all that was required & as I had already paid was a little worried about handing this info over. (Police checks I was informed). I would have preferred to have …
Response from Peter:
We thank Viv for her visit and for taking the time to provide her review, although we would have preferred if she had spoken with us first 1)AIRBNB do not provide guest information to hosts. This policy has been criticised by many hosts on the AIRBNB discussion boards. We like to know our customers; after all we are sharing our private house with them. We also try to ensure that we can provide them with a personal bespoke service on their return visits. Any reasonable individual will realise that we as hosts are under obligation to make our register of visitors available to the proper legal authorities on demand. 2)Yes the “lake” (for which read a large garden pond (“Etang”, in French)) had no visible water surface at the time of the visit. Due to the changing climate it becomes semi dry in summer and full of water in winter. This creates a bio diversity system unique to the etang as nature adapts to these conditions. We have, as suggested, amended the picture to more accurately show current conditions. 3)Our linen (sheets, pillow cases, towels etc) is laundered freshly for EVERY visitor. Yes, there are pillow protectors for hygienic and anti-allergy reasons, as one would expect. Mattresses are firm and in good order. We maintain the highest standards and are regularly inspected by independent bodies. 4)Similarly each room has private en-suite toilet and shower facilities also maintained to the highest standards. We have never had a complaint about the shower size until this review. Had we been made aware of the perceived difficulty we could have provided guest access to our campsite facilities – which includes a shower and toilet designed for less well able bodied folk. 5)Criticism of issues outside our control such as telephone reception quality is non helpful. As we live here in our rural home we are aware of these issues. We agree, mobile phone signals are not as reliable as in a city. This is why we provide free WiFi. If extended use of WiFi is needed then the option exists at a small extra charge (for all occupants of a given room, no matter how many devices they may use). We however thank Viv for highlighting the issue which is now more fully highlighted in our description pages. 6)We do not advertise that we provide any television viewing (TV stations broadcast in French, in any case in France :-)) not much use to this “Irish Gent”. 7)We do not advertise that we provide an evening meal. There are a number of restaurants within reasonable driving distance offering local delicacies. We also run a campsite within our grounds. Chambre d’hôte guests may ramble, meeting other guests of many nationalities. Our campsite bar is within a rustic building with original adobe walls and retains original oak, birch and straw roofing protected by a corrugated iron roof. Our snack meals are prepared hygienically and to order in a bespoke kitchen in a separate building. This kitchen is also subject to periodic inspections by the regulatory authorities. 8)Our fee is not sterling £68 for a double room. We charge €64 Euro per night Perhaps Viv should contact AIRBnB to obtain a refund of any excess levied by them in error. We once again thank Viv for her visit and for her positive comments concerning the breakfast, complementary tea and coffee, cleanliness of the linen and the rooms, the availability of a drink and a snack on the bar terrace, private parking etc. We look forward to meeting her again when she is more experienced in using AIRBnB. We wish her every success in her future activities. Peter & Fran
