When you are not at the beach or enjoying plaza-area diversions, the terrace is where you will want to spend your time relaxing, reading, talking or just enjoying the amazing natural ambiance.
The deep red flowers of a mature "Copa de Oro" tree crest over the top of the far wall and a custom Virgin of Guadalupe tile "painting" acts as the centerpiece for the terrace's interior wall. The terrace/living area is also fully furnished with many casual chairs, a large, circular dining table with chairs, and a futon couch, which pulls out as a bed.
Many built-in architectural nooks amplify the space, creating natural "conversation areas" throughout. Each area has its own specific view and visual aspect to enjoy. Discover your favorite area!
Birds, native to the area, flock to nearby trees throughout the day and into the early evening, also creating ambient sound. This is a natural birdwatcher's paradise. In season, a constant array of multicolored butterflies completes the daily "nature show." The comical Chachalacas (related to the wild Turkey) and in-coming flocks of the sweet but noisy Pericos (green wild parakeets) will keep you charmed and entertained.
The (13 by 13 ft.) bedroom apartments offers many custom and artistic features throughout including an interior sloped tile roof, as an architectural accent, and a shell and ocean-rock decorative shower in the private 2 meter by 2 meter (6 and 1/2 by 6 and 1/2 ft.) bathroom. There is abundant hot water for long, relaxing showers.
Bedroom apartment furniture includes a double or "full size" bed with firm mattress and decorative carved headboard, a large wooden wardrobe/dresser, comfortable love seat, ornate table with four scroll-design chairs, for inside-the-bedroom dining (or internet use), and a nightstand. Ornate security windows and doors bring in much light and help catch the cooling valley breezes. Frosted, leaf-patterned glass adds privacy and adds to the charm!
It's a fact! The deep valley cross breezes - wafting across the terrace and through the bedroom apartment - keep it 5-10 degrees COOLER, than areas closer to the plaza! High speed ceiling fans help, also.
This is a tranquil, private and protected nature area with many fruit and flowering trees. The property is protected and secure with the entire perimeter walled and gated for added security and privacy. The large wooden front gate includes a door for your separate keyed entrance.

We had a ton of fun staying at LA and Martin's place. It was exactly what we were looking for...giving us a real feel of what life is like in Sayulita (we are considering a purchase/move there so wanted to avoid "hotel" type places). L.A. and Martin were the perfect mix of social and helpful while still respecting our privacy. Sometimes the walk to town was a little tiresome (20 mins if you are slow like us) but that was mostly because our three year old went on a "walk strike" so we ended up carrying her more than we would have liked. All in all the slightly further location was worth it though because it was closer to some of the more quiet beaches which is what we were really interested in visiting.
Favourite things? The sunrise view from the top floor in the morning, the AMAZINGLY bright stars at night, the sounds of the jungle as we fell asleep, the fresh tortillas that came ala motorbike in the mornings (only 15 pesos for a kilo), and Martin's yummy salsa's (we liked the dark chipotle one the best). We will definitely be back.
Leslie and Martin are wonderful people with a lovely casa a short walk outside Sayulita. They are very hospitable and great to be around, and I very mush enjoyed my time there. Would definitely rent again!
We absolutely loved staying in the casita. My wife and I took the local bus from Puerto Vallarta (a fun adventure in itself for a measly 60 pesos) and had no problem locating the meeting place in town where we first met L.A. and Martin. They were right on time and gave us time to catch a bite to eat while they ran some errands. They then gave us a little tour of Sayulita on the way back to their house. We found L.A. and Martin to be very friendly and helpful with local sites, directions, places to go and things to do in Sayulita. L.A. was well informed on the local flora and fauna in the area pointing out various flowers, plants, trees and explaining to us about the abundance of land crabs we saw crossing the road on the walks home every night from town. It was a short and easy 10 minute walk to town from their place but that always made for an adventure every morning while we decided what we were going to do for the day and again in the evening planning for the next day. As has been pointed out by others that have stayed here, bringing a couple of flashlights is a good idea for the walk back if you plan on doing it past dark. We found their lodging to be very clean with plenty of hot water and appreciated the availability of the kitchen, though we didn't make use of anything other than the fridge. It was rainy season during our stay and the lush green jungle setting around the property had me initially worried about the possibility of mosquitos but we only spotted 1 or 2 the entire week we were there. Sayulita is a great place to visit for those who wish to get away from the commercial, tourist laden streets of Puerto Vallarta but still want to have the availability of nice beaches, restaurants, bars, shopping, hiking and excursions. I really can't say enough about how much fun (both relaxing and adventurous) we had while visiting Sayulita and staying with L.A. and Martin. They are truly wonderful hosts and their location is perfect for people who don't want or need a luxury resort style vacation where all you do is stay on the premises. Staying at their house felt like visiting relatives that knew all the ins-and-outs of a town and were more than willing to share all they knew with us. In the same sense, when we would often come back during the middle of the day for a siesta nap, they never bothered or intruded upon us. We would definitely stay here again.
It's a really cool, roomy place at a great value. There's a really nice full kitchen outside on the veranda which is for preparing big meals or just relaxing on. Only a short walk up the road from town which allows you to escape the noise from the parties and bars whenever you like. Martin and Leslie are great hosts, very laid back bilingual couple that was happy to help out when I needed something. They seemed to know everyone in town and had tips and recommendations about anything I needed to know .Travelers wanting to meet really cool local people and still have plenty of privacy should look no further. Chad
I can't put into words how amazing our time was!!
It was my sister's first time in Sayulita and out of the country for that fact! LA and Martin were so warm and supportive of the things we were interested in. They knew all the right people, the best places, coached us on the language when weren't too sure of ourselves. They gave gave us that extra confidence to really pursue the things we wanted to do in Sayulita. The home is wonderful, a 10 min max walk from town. We rented a scooter and really enjoyed having it to scoot-scoot around. We really enjoyed the open kitchen to make breakfast and to relax when the day got too hot. We are were beyond happy with the space, their hospitality and the overall experience!
Claudia wants to go back as soon as she can and we would both definitely look to saying here again!
My daughter and I, both from England, enjoyed a very special time at L.A and Martin's residence. This was our first visit to Mexico and L.A and Martin welcomed us into their own community in Sayulita giving us an insight into the different lifestyles of their friends ad neighbours . We shared many interests in common which led to is going together to a poetry and music evening, an eco ranch, and cumbia party/on the beach. We would never have known or found these without L.A. and Martin Although slightly out of town, the jungle surroundings of their home provided a different environment from the lively town of Sayulita. We liked the open terrace from which we enjoyed the sight and sounds of the birds and insects and the starry skies. The accommodation is very reasonably priced and comfortable and we would definitely recommend it to our friends .
We had a great time with L.A and Martin. Stayed there with our 20 month old boy, and it was perfect for him. L.A and Martin were helpful and kind, but also quite discrete. The fact that their house is a little outside town has benefits (no city noise for early bedtime) but it was a little bit far to walk many times a day (quite easy for people without a toddler though). The house had a very interesting architecture and was clean. We loved it and would stay there again!
L.A, Martin, Piers and Phoenix where a very hospitable family.
The property is a out of town, but close to some lovely secluded beaches. 20 min walk to town, a little scary walking along the main road at night- so bring your torches.
My friend and I had a great time with LA and Martine! She met us at the main plaza when we first arrived, we had some delicious margaritas and then she gave us a ride back to the house. LA and Martine are very friendly and helpful.
The house has a few different apartment units in it. Ours was nice.. clean, plenty of space, full kitchen, good bathroom. There were actually a few different sleeping options: a bed in the apartment, a couple beds on the roof and a futon outside (which is where I ended up sleeping).
The location is great if you're more interested in going to secluded beaches than to the main public beaches near town (which can get pretty crowded). The house is near a road that has access to several beautiful and largely empty beaches. The walk to town is a bit long, but not bad.. it was good exercise and it didn't ever feel too long to deter us from going into town (we'd make the round trip a couple times a day). I'd recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight to navigate one section of road that doesn't have streetlights at night.
I felt like this place was a great deal and I had a comfortable stay. I'd recommend it.
L.A. and her family were very generous and kind hosts going out of the way especially when I got ill by using her connections to help get supplies. She was always offering to drive us to downtown which was very appreciated. While staying at her place we always felt safe. Thanks so much L.A.!
