About the historic neighborhood of Getsemani:
Getsemani is the most thriving area in Cartagena, the last authentic neighborhood in the old town and yet to be fully gentrified; it is the neighborhood where true “Cartageneros” still live. Getsemani boasts a unique bohemian atmosphere and a neighborhood feel you won’t find elsewhere in the City, mixing history and tradition with with an eclectic offer of trendy bars, restaurants and discos.
Casa Marta is located in front of the historic Iglesia de la Trinidad, the heart of Getsemani where locals and tourists meet and hang out every day.
It was at the Plaza de la Trinidad where Cartagena’s independence from Spain was declared on 11 November 1811; hence the “Getsemanisenses” are fierce people proud of their roots and heroic past. Getsemani is a place full of history and heritage.

The location is ideal if you want to stay in Getsemaní (which you do!). It’s just steps from the main plaza. Marta has just two rooms for rent, which makes for a tranquil stay. The rooms are cool and comfortable (with strong A/C and fan), and the little pool is great for a quick dip. Marta and the two staff members were very welcoming and eager to be helpful. We would definitely stay there again. Thanks, Marta!
I stayed with my mom at Casa Marta for 4 nights over Semana Santa, and it was wonderful. Marta is a wonderful hostess, and helped us with advice of places to eat and arranging tours of a few of the sights as well. The breakfasts and other snacks were nice to have, and the room and entire house were kept very clean. It was also very nice to have a pool there to relax in during a couple of the hot afternoons. And the location of her house is great and within walking distance to the walled city. If you are thinking of staying here, I do recommend that you at least understand some Spanish, because that made communication easier.
CASA MARTA is idealy situated in the Old City, I was on a business trip to an Oil &Gas Symposium, the Convention Center was a 6 min. walk, all the other attractions in the walled City were within an easy 10 to 15 walk. Marta is a very elegant and educated hostes that helped me arrange several of my meetings and tour excurtions while I was at Cartagena. The staff are very polite and willing to help with whatever your needs, they scand and sent documents, photo copied and printed my boarding pass all as a servise of the establishment. The house is very clean with modern conveniances but retains the rustic atmospher of the Spanish Colonial days. I highly recommend CASA MARTA if you prefer a homey atmospher for your travels.
Casa Marta is in a great location and is just a short walk from the Old Town. Marta was a great hostess and the room was clean and comfortable.
Marta is lovely - considering you as one of the family members!
Always here to give you a good tip about the city or crack a nice joke.
