There is loads and loads to do in the area. Here are some ideas.....
Fethard On Sea and Duncannon Villages are a short 5 minute drive from the B&B. Great food, priced reasonably, great craic and all the Guinness you'll ever need here.
Of course you have to visit.... The Hook Lighthouse. Lighthouses have a magic and mysticism of their own, none more so than the 13th Century Hook Lighthouse. Enjoy!!
Hiking! If you would like to see unspoiled natural Ireland on foot you have come to right place. Plenty of great walking to be done in the area :-)
Just down the road is the infamous haunted Loftus Hall - Prepare to be spooked!! :-D
The beaches in the area are great, Dollar Bay, Booley Bay, Baginbun, and Duncannon Beach to name just a few. Both Dollar and Booley Bay are just a 10/15 minute walk away.
Duncannon Fort is a short drive away, built in 1558 in the expectation of an attack on the area by the Spanish Armada, Duncannon Fort incorporates a maritime museum, Cockleshell Arts Gallery, Officer's Mess Café and Craft shop.
John F. Kennedy Arboretum is a great family day out, 2km southeast of the Kennedy Homestead, the Arboretum has a small visitor centre, tearooms, a picnic area and a miniature train tootles around in the summer months. Sunny season fun!
Shelmalier Stables welcome all ages and all levels in a relaxed, friendly environment to enjoy their time with their well-trained horses and ponies.
Also a short drive away is Tintern Abbey, founded in c1200 by the Earl of Pembroke, Tintern Abbey was a Cistercian abbey. Today visitors can see remains of the nave, chancel, tower, chapel, and cloister.
Visiting the area works best when driving, cycling or walking.
Fethard-on-Sea/Hook Head is in South West County Wexford and is only 25km from the town of New Ross and 40km from Wexford Town. The passage east car ferry which can take you to/from Waterford city is only 5km from us. Hook Head is 2 hours from Dublin or Cork or 45 mins from Rosslare ferryport.
A nearby landmark for finding us is 'Templetown crossroads'. As you head towards Hook Lighthouse we are on the right hand side of the road just before you reach the Templetown Church and crossroads.
The house is a non-smoking house.
I had the most wonderful stay with Anne. After a long journey I got completely lost on my way from Rosslare Harbour to Anne`s place, as my Sat Nav failed. But Anne was so kind, cheered me up and navigated me successfully to her B&B. I received a very warm welcome and was treated with biscuits and home made cake.
I stayed in the Blue Room upstairs. It`s such a lovely room ! !t looks just like in the pictures. It`s light and spacious and at the same time extremely cozy and very, very comfortable. The bed was just like heaven, especially because Anne even has an electric blanket in there, so the bed was always warm.
The privat bathroom was also great ! It was absolutely spot less and clean like everything else. It`s a very comfortable bathroom, nice shower, always warm, I felt really good in the there.
You will actually have the whole upstairs area for yourself, which goes far beyond B&B standard. There is a nice lounge area, with sofas and a television, a table and chairs, where you eat, work or whatever (you will have WIFI too with Anne) There is also a lovely corner where you can prepare tea and coffee and even a small privat fridge !!
Breakfast downstairs was another treat. Anne asked me every morning what I would like. I went for porridge and scrabbled eggs just with bacon (my personal choice) - both delicious.
Anne is the very best hostess you could wish for. She is always in a good mood, easy to talk to, absolutely committed to her B&B and the well being of her guests and has a natural way of making you feel comfortable.
The area is beautiful, Hook Head Lighthouse is nearby and you can have wonderful walks along the coast.
Therefore: perfect location, perfect room and facilities and perfect hostess !
I honestly felt at home and didn`t actually want to leave, but had to, as I was on a trip along the south coast, but I will definitely return !
After a long journey we had a really warm welcome Anne offered us cake and tea. The bedroom had a really homely atmosphere and the mattress was one of the best I ever slept at. The house was clean and decorated with so many lovely details. The B&B is located really close to the sea. It was quite and idyllic. The breakfast was delicious. Anne let us feel very welcome and we thank her so much for this excellent stay. We really recommend Anne's B&B!!!
I had a very lovely stay at Hook Head B&B, Anne made me feel very welcome and the room/bed was the most comfortable I've had during my Ireland trip. The area is absolutely gorgeous and there is so much to do - even in the off season. One of the best parts about my stay truly was meeting Anne - she went way out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed and I hope to meet up with her again in the future.
Booked a stay at Hook Head BnB at relatively short notice, Anne was very prompt at getting back to me she greeted us at the door on our arrival with tea and biscuits. Anne was a wonderful host very easy to talk to, she obliged us in any way that she could. If we ever return to Hook Head peninsula, Anne will be the first person we call.
Anne was a most welcoming host and lifted our spirits after hours of driving.Very clean and beautiful home ,welcomed us with a cup of tea and home baked cakes to refresh us.She has the most infectious and bubbly personality.
As this was our first B&B experience we were very impressed.
If there are any other B&Bs in the area, this is the one we highly recommend
Anne was a warm and welcoming host and we were greeted with tea and biscuits upon our arrival (perfect after our long day of travelling). Restaurant/Bar with good food and stunning views just a 5 minute walk down the road was highly convenient. Breakfast was superb and the home was simply beautiful (I would recommend the blue room for the huge skylight providing a perfect view of the night sky and a cool breeze).
After some disorientation around the Fethard area, we finally managed to find Hooks Head B&B. We were met by Anne's son Rob who was down for the weekend and we immediately hit it off discussing things to do in the area, cats, and traveling. He showed us to our room which turned out to be spacious, bright and quiet with a private bathroom.
The neighbourhood was full of interesting things to do. Except for just relaxing and going for scenic walks, there was also the Hook Head lighthouse, the Templars Inn seafood restaurant and the haunted Loftus Hall. In the morning we were served a full irish breakfast with all the bells and whistles.
Must stay for anyone traveling in the area. Rob was a great host making sure we were well looked after.
