About This Listing
Breakfast table/eating/preparing area or laptop space - lots of outlets nearby and barstools underneath
Cute and cool bachelor apartment in centrally located Los Feliz/Franklin Hills/Silver Lake area.
This is a great unit for people who like to walk and explore. There are lots of great murals in the neighborhood (Shepard Fairey just finished a great one that's only 5 blocks away) as well as farmer's markets (one a 10 minute walk away on Saturday morning and the Atwater and Los Feliz markets which are a 25 min walk in either direction). There are great tapas bars, sport bars, old Hollywood hangout bars, gay bars and lots of juice bars for the unalcoholically inclined.
Plus lots of great pizza.
We're near Griffith Park so it's not that uncommon to see skunks or racoons or possums or coyotes - not that one sees them everyday, but it occasionally happens. It's a rustic yet modern part of town. Somehow it works.
The unit is small - a self contained one room bachelor with a kitchenette, bathroom and painted concrete floors. It's cool and always cool - it's almost always an even temperature due to being semi underground with a granite/concrete slate wall.
It's up a flight of about 15 steps - good to know just in case that is a problem for you. We really want your stay to be a great one, so if you have mobility problems or need that cigarette or gotta have your pets/animals with you, this probably won't be a good fit. Other than that, you should like it here. You'll hear some overhead footfall noises, but not a lot of traffic as we are set back a bit from the street.
It's got an industrial feel with high a ceiling (11ft) and exposed beam and high contrast color scheme. If you're into the modern look, you'll like it here.
Note: There is an airbed but it's the most comfortable airbed you've ever slept in. There is also a sofabed/loveseat (thank you IKEA) that doubles as a little sitting spot and, well, a bed.
Second Note: This is a really small place. Whomever you share the unit with will be very close to you!! There is no door to the bathroom, again, extreme closeness!
Best for a single person or a couple - or a couple with a small child (yes, I know that is technically 3 people but we are kid family friendly. That said, a teenager would be crowded with parents. We've had it here before--it didn't work out) - 2 person max - 3 night minimum
•1 min walk to Hyperion Lyric Cafe, 2 min walk to YAS (yoga and spinning), 2 min walk to Casita del Campo, 12 minute walk to Sunset Junction shops and eateries, 17 min walk from Metro Red Line/Children's Hospital/Kaiser Hospital, 11 min walk to Trader Joe's and Gelson's, bike paths all over the place
•Walking distance to some of the best pizza (Tomato Pie), burgers (The Fix) and gelato (Pazzo Gelato) in the city
•Nearby bars, cafes, eclectic boutiques and restaurants - an 11 min walk to Intelligensia coffee shop, Casbah Cafe, Forage restaurant, Secret Headquarters comic book store, Cafe Stella bistro, Matruska dress shop - etc.
•Charming modern style home with concrete floors, cool loft-like 11ft ceiling and exposed beams
•Ample Street parking - free and non-metered (Friday mornings have street cleaning from 10am - 12noon-please be aware of this!)
• Kitchenette has stovetop, little fridge, toaster oven - glasses, dishes, utensils
•Halfway between Hollywood and Downtown LA, 3 minutes from freeways, 1 minute walk to bus stop
•Gorgeous hilly hikes and walking paths nearby
•Includes utilities, wireless internet
•No smoking, no drugs, no pets (we really mean it about the no smoking)
This area of town is a lot like Brooklyn - lots of cool places, mom and pop shops and almost everything you need walking distance. It's a very safe neighborhood in a lively and fun area of town. We are close to Griffith Park, Hollywood, Downtown LA, Dodger Stadium, Disney Hall and lots of other attractions. It's also a great central place to go to other places around the city.
No smoking of any kind on the property, no drugs, no pets - (we really mean it about the no smoking)
Two burner stovetop
Pots and pans, dishes, bowls and utensils - as well as cooking spices
and if you're not into cooking...
Los Feliz/Silver Lake is a great neighborhood - there are wonderful movie theaters, restaurants and boutiques all walking distance. FOOD: Thai, Italian, Brazilian, Vietnamese, Armenian, Chinese, Japanese - all walking distance and most open late or 24 hours. Not to mention great pizza, burgers and bars!
Great public transportation in this area; you wouldn't need a car if you worked in Hollywood or Downtown LA. Close to Griffith Park, Hollywood, Disney Hall, Dodger Stadium and centrally located within Los Angeles.
This is a lively neighborhood so don't expect total peace and quiet but the neighbors are respectful. There is a preschool across the street so during the day you may hear the sound of children playing occasionally.
Getting here from the LAX Airport:
There is a bus called the flyway that can take you to Union Station for 7 dollarsUS (don't worry - you won't need money - when you get to Union Station you can pay by credit card) then you can take the Metro Red Line for $1.50 each or take a taxi for about $15 (a taxi from the airport would cost about $55-66US).
You would go back to the airport the same way - though there is a bus that can take you to the Red Line.
Since parking downtown can range from $5-$25 and walking from a parking structure takes a lot of time, public transportation is better and sometimes faster to Downtown LA and Hollywood, in my opinion.
There is also the DASH - the downtown area bus that costs 50 cents and goes all around downtown LA - from Chinatown to USC. There's lots to do there. And it's not too far from the house.
This is a great hilly, hip part of town - truly one of the best LA has to offer. You'll be able to explore everyday.
Other Things to Note
The unit is up a 15 step flight of stairs. If climbing stairs is difficult for you this would not be a good place to rent.
The space has its own little porch area and is private. No smoking in the unit or outside on the property. We love pets but this unit is pet and dander free out of consideration for future guests! Please do not rearrange the heavy furniture - feel free to use cabinets for clothes and storage.
Private porch lets in lots of light, as well as kitchen window to fill this one room space
Good space for 1 person in an ideal location in Los Feliz/Silverlake.
Jansen is a lovely host! She greet us when we arrived and show us around the flat. She was very helpful! Everything is as described and the location is perfect! We had great time!
Lovely host, a basic set-up and great location. We'd defiantly recommend for that price!

A landmark. This restaurant has been here for 50 years. It's right across the street and has a lovely patio, old school menu selections and tasty margaritas. They also have a brunch on the weekends.
Forage got its name from its original concept of buying backyard produce from local neighbors. Forage uses locally sourced food to make delicious selections served deli style. Ethic fusion sauces.
Gotta love a neighborhood with a comic book store! There's some issues for the kiddies, but this place is a haven for hardcore Xmen and Love and Rockets fans. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
A fabulous Polynesian themed bar that serves potent mixed drinks and is as big as a postage stamp. Honestly one of the best bars in LA and walking distance from the house. What more could you want?
For those of you unfortunate enough to not live near one, Trader Joe's sets the organic foodie standard for the budget strapped but conscious consumer. Everything you need and don't need but must have
A real Art House movie theatre restored to its former glory, the Vista shows first run films at a discounted price (about 9.50 and matinees are 6.50 - cheap for LA). Plus plenty of space between rows.
