Enjoy a private home with view of salt water and pond on seven private acres with cottage gardens, woods, lawn plus flowers, herbs, and some vegetables available for guests. One guest has described as "island rural with a view." Fully equipped kitchen with microwave, gas stove, refrigerator, waffle iron, blender/food processor, coffee grinder, drip and electric coffee maker, dishwasher, and filtered drinking water (no need to bring bottled water.) The wood stove with supply of kindling and firewood makes for cozy winter warmth. There is a bathtub/shower in the tiled bathroom. The bedroom has a Queen size bed, and there is a single sofa bed downstairs. The large lawn is great for croquet, badminton, or bocce.
Located 21 miles from the ferry, it is a bit of a drive, but beautiful. It is about ten miles from town of Eastsound, one mile from Doe Bay Cafe, and 6 miles from Moran State Park (third largest of all state parks in Wash. There are lakes and lots of trails as well as Mt. Constitution, highest land in all San Juan islands.)

Most visitors to Orcas arrive by ferry by car. Some fly in and rent a car. There is no bus to my place. I have had guests that arrive by bicycle! :)
This house is amazing. It's super cozy, clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed tending the wood stove. There's a piano and variety of shakers if you feel like jamming. Also, there is a copy of John Prine's "Fair and Square" album in the CD collection. I probably played it ten times through. I would love to stay at this place again at some point. Highly recommended!
We had a fantastic stay on Orcas. Quite a secluded, relaxing location, but still never too far away from civilization. The house had everything we needed.
Don't miss visiting Doe Bay Resort for brunch....great to have such a nice spot close by (a couple of miles).
Also, we were fine, but if your stay ends up landing on a period with snow/bad weather, you would want 4-wheel drive to get to the house; it is a fairly hilly, unpaved road for the last 1/2 mile.
Nadine's place was absolutely lovely...honestly, the pictures cannot do it justice. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and were great for birdwatching. The wood stove kept the whole place nice and cozy during our winter stay. And the view from the bedroom was amazing! We could wake up with the sun reflecting off of the sound. Nadine was very accessible and called us after we arrived to make sure everything we needed was in place. We will definitely be back! Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
We had a wonderful time at Nadine's home! The house is truly beautiful and very isolated from any kind of outside noise (roads, boats, planes etc.). It is definitely a great choice if you want to spend a very quiet vacation.
It was very well furnished and so cozy that we didn't even once eat at any of the great restaurants on Orcas. We just felt so great in the house that we wanted to spend as much time there as possible.
The only thing to keep in mind is that there is no division between the floors so that if one part of the party wants to sleep and another make noise it might be an issue. We had a toddler with us so we had to be very quiet when she was sleeping. That did not prevent us for enjoying the stay anyways because all we wanted to do was embrace the silence anyways.
The small dirt roads near the house are very quiet and beautiful so if you like walking you won't have to worry about cars at all. Doe Bay for example is a short walk from the house.
Obstruction Pass State Park is just a short drive and Moran State Park is not very far away either.
My wife and I visited Winterpond for our first wedding anniversary. We had a pleasant and comfortable stay. The house is beautifully decorated, is peaceful and has a distinct charm. The well-stocked kitchen, the quietness of the surroundings and warmth from the wooden stove kept us from leaving the coziness of house throughout the stay. We would recommend the place for someone looking for relaxation and to rejuvenate.
Nadine is a delightful person. She was flexible with our stay. She advised us wisely to not start our trip on a snowy day and instead offered to extend our stay or even refund if the weather doesn't get better. We are glad the weather cleared up and we were able to make the travel. She was diligent to all of our needs and helped us feel at home during the stay.
Was looking for the perfect winter, quiet getaway and Nadine's house was it. The view is beautiful, clean and stocked with everything we needed. Nadine is very accommodating, will definitely come back.
My boyfriend and I visited Nadine's "Serene Orcas Island Vacation Home" for my birthday. We found it pleasant, private, clean, and well appointed. The kitchen was well stocked and there were well designed, personal touches throughout the home. We enjoyed the location because it was quiet and removed from the most populated areas of the island, but still a quick drive to Moran State Park and Mt. Constitution, as well as Eastsound and other Orcas Island hotspots. We would stay at "Winterpond" again in a heartbeat! Thanks Nadine for a wonderful stay.
Winterpond is a peaceful, quiet, clean and comfortable get-away spot. The house is lovely, with beautiful wood floors, a nice yard and garden, a quaint kitchen and dining area, with birds at the feeder outside and a nice wood stove that amply heats the place. It is private, well-lit, and inviting. We loved our two nights here and will most definitely return. We have already told our friends to take advantage of this incredible place.
Nadine's house is amazing! It's tucked away just past Doe Bay, back in the woods, so so quiet and serene. My only disappointment is that I didn't stay long enough. A quick weekend trip is definitely not enough time here, I also didn't realize how much there is to do on Orcas Island. We kayaked with Outer Island Expeditions (I highly recommend them), had seriously good beer at Island Hoppin' Brewery (you smell the fresh hops as you walk up to the building), and the views from the top of Mt Constitution are ridiculously amazing.
Everything is a drive from Nadine's place but with how lovely/serene her house/acreage is it's super nice to get away from the busy roads and tourists. The kitchen is well stocked, we made dinner on the grill outside and the surround sound stereo is a nice touch.
Stupid WA Ferry Scheduling aside (4hr wait to get off the island), I absolutely love Orcas Island and will come back and stay at Nadine's house for much longer.
Nadine is wonderful! She's quick to respond, kind, and very considerate. Winterpond is exceedingly beautiful - full of charm, thoughtfully decorated, well organized, clean and is the definition of cozy. If you are lucky enough to make it out this way, Winterpond is a must stay at Orcas.
