Interaction with Guests
Not much. Almost always available by phone or text.
We like the quiet at night. And the many birds.
Most visitors to Orcas arrive by ferry and car. Some fly in and rent a car. There is no bus to my place. I have had guests that arrive by bicycle! :)

Bring a flash light in the winter. There are solar path lights, but low light if it is cloudy during the short days.
Guests need to recycle and compost. If no recycling/composting...take all of trash with you or pay extra $25.

This was our first Airbnb experience and we had a wonderful time. Naidine's house is as beautiful as the pictures, and she has a great eye for interior design. A highlight of our trip was sitting in the front around the fire pit and watching the sun go down. Thank you so much for sharing your home.
One of our best rental experiences yet! We truly loved the home. It was in the perfect location for us - quiet, away from the crowds, with beautiful gardens and lots of wildlife. We loved the interior design and the thoughtful touches such as putting local flowers in all the rooms of the house. The kitchen was well-supplied and we cooked delicious oysters on the bbq and had fun reading books next to the big windows throughout the house. We would love to return again for a full week.
This is one of the most amazing places to stay on Orcas. Quiet, serene, restful. We had been working non stop since January and really needed to slow down. We didn't watch TV or look at our work email. Just hiking, dominos, eating, drinking and resting. The days were long and it felt so good to be able to stop. I want to come back from a whole week in October.
We could not believe how perfect this place was. Wonderful cozy cabin with windows looking out at forest and the sound. We saw kingfishers and herons and bats from the windows, heard frogs, saw a meteor shower. It was so quiet and peaceful and private. The yard is gorgeous- perfect for tag and hide and seek with my five year old. We roasted fresh rhubarb from the garden and had fresh thyme, oregano, chives and tarragon from the garden on our eggs and beans. The kitchen is well set up for cooking and we ate almost all our breakfasts and dinners there at a big wood table with fantastic view. One dinner we ate at the nearby Doe Bay Cafe which was absolutely excellent. During the days we went out to the nearby state parks for some spectacular hikes. This was our first trip with our 5 week old daughter and we will remember it fondly for the rest of our lives. Really could not have been more perfect.
Everything was exactly as we had hoped. There was a very cozy and calming atmosphere about the house (and fresh flowers throughout - a great touch!), and there was also plenty to explore in the garden. One of our favorite activities was sitting at the dinner table watching finches and other birds visit the bird feeder.
Also, we made most of our meals at Nadine's home and found the kitchen cookware/supplies to be more than ample (I didn't expect a food processor nor a vegetable peeler, for instance!). Unless you have a very specific need (we brought a small rice cooker, for instance), you probably can pack light.
Thanks, Nadine, for making our stay possible!
Winterpond is the most wonderful place to stay. Orcas Island is beautiful, and to find this wonderful house to stay in was like frosting on the cake! I knew I was going to have a wonderful stay as soon as I pulled up to the gate and got my first look at the house and property. Nadine has created a wonderful place to rest, rejuvenate and relax. Every care has been taken to provide her guests with all the comforts of home...or more! Comfortable places to sit, a kitchen equipped with everything you could need, a wonderful wall speaker sound system and music choices, fluffy robes to lounge in, a very comfortable bed that looks out onto the water and trees, and a very comfortable bathroom. The weather was so glorious that I didn't need to use the wood stove, but it is there for those cold nights. The yard is huge and impressive. Fully mature tress surround the house and make you feel like you are alone in your own universe. The pond is a wonderful feature, and I was woken one morning to the sounds of ducks enjoying the water. I also fell asleep to the sound of frogs...lovely! Winterpond sits at the top of a hill with an amazing view down to the water. I spent quite a bit of time in the comfortable bedroom chair simply staring out at the view. The only thing the house doesn't have are the groceries you will want, and I found the store in East Sound to have an excellent selection. East Sound also has wonderful shops highlighting local artist's work, a pub full of atmosphere and a wonderful library. I will definitely be staying at Winterpond again. What I can tell you is that you will be SO sorry if you only book one night....once you experience how enchanting Winerpond is you will wish you never had to leave.
Just as charming and delightful as the pictures suggest! A perfect get-away for two. Bring food and things to cook - the house kitchen is nice, and it's easy not to leave for the whole weekend. I've stayed here twice now, waking up to the sound of birds outside the kitchen, and falling asleep to the gentle spring rains.
