We are located 21 beautiful miles from the ferry, but that is a good thing for more quiet and solitude.
There are two nearby restaurants, but many in Eastsound, a twenty minute drive.
The kitchen is great for cooking and supplied with condiments, herbs and spices.
Enjoy a private home with view of salt water and pond on seven private acres with cottage gardens, woods, lawn plus flowers, herbs, and some vegetables available for guests. One guest has described as "island rural with a view." Fully equipped kitchen with microwave, gas stove, refrigerator, waffle iron, blender/food processor, coffee grinder, drip and electric coffee maker, dishwasher, and filtered drinking water (no need to bring bottled water.) The wood stove with supply of kindling and firewood makes for cozy winter warmth. There is a bathtub/shower in the tiled bathroom. The bedroom has a Queen size bed, and there is a single sofa bed downstairs. The large lawn is great for croquet, badminton, or bocce.
Located 21 miles from the ferry, it is a bit of a drive, but beautiful. It is about ten miles from town of Eastsound, 1.6 mile from Doe Bay Cafe, and 6 miles from Moran State Park (third largest of all state parks in Wash.)There are lakes and lots of trails as well as Mt. Constitution, highest land in all San Juan islands.)

Feel free to walk about the property. There is 7+ acres.
*Please note that in the winter, there is a chance of snow. Usually only an inch or two. But as the road up has a few steep spots, I recommend to guests that if it starts snowing, take your car down to the main road and walk the half mile back up. If it is snowing in Seattle or Anacortes, don't come!
Interaction with Guests
Not much. Almost always available by phone, but live in Seattle a lot.
We like the quiet at night. And the many birds.
Most visitors to Orcas arrive by ferry and car. Some fly in and rent a car. There is no bus to my place. I have had guests that arrive by bicycle! :)
Other Things to Note
Bring a flash light in the winter. There are solar path lights, but low light if it is cloudy during the short days.
Guests need to recycle and compost. If no recycling/composting...take all of trash with you or pay extra $25.
No smoking, no parties, no pets.
House rules checklist:
1. Separate compost and recycle from rest of trash or take trash with you.
2. Wash dishes before leaving.
3. Turn off any heaters when leaving and lock doors. Leave key inside on counter.
4. Relax and enjoy.
I'm not sure where to start with Winterpond - what a beautiful home! It is everything other reviewers said which led to our booking Winterpond for a weekend in the PNW. It's the perfect escape from city living, perfectly quiet and serene. It's remote but easily in driving distance of Eastsound, with plenty of options for restaurants. We spent much of our time on Orcas hiking nearby at Moran State Park. We cooked several meals in home, enjoyed the view from the front porch, and just plain enjoyed Nadine's home. We wish we had stayed more than two nights! You will be sad to leave - highly, highly recommended staying at Winterpond. Charming, relaxing, serene and plenty of opportunity for activities on the island. We were spoiled by starting our vacation here and then heading into Seattle (hotels just seem wrong after you've stayed at Winterpond). You must see for yourself!
Our stay at Nadine's home on Orcas Island was lovely. It was as much a pleasure relaxing inside or on the deck as it was to hike in nearby Moran state park. The decor was lovely, the landscaping natural and thoughtful, and the location perfectly remote for a weekend away.
Everything was as I expected from Nadine's communication and the stay was stress free.
Simply put, I love this place. The space is beautiful and obviously well taken care of. The plot of land the home is on is quiet and secluded. Myself and my companion arrived late in the evening to a roaring fire that instantly made us feel at home. The large windows in the bedroom allowed for great star gazing and a warm light to wake us up in the morning. We utilized the great sound system (in wall sound, CD player, record player, and iPod jack), enjoyed a movie in the living room, and watched the birds over our meals in the dining room. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking supplies and the gas stove works perfectly. Nadine provided directions on how to use everything in the home (even tips on starting the best fire), and maps and brochures on things to do on the island. Overall the weekend was great thanks in large part to our stay in this beautiful home. Nadine is a great host and I would come back in a heartbeat (and have already recommended the place to friends!).
Nadine's home was everything I had hoped for and more. I love that it is tucked away and the hills, and although there are neighbors nearby, you feel like you are completely alone. Her house was gorgeous, I never wanted to leave. Nadine was available by phone and email, and gave nice suggestions of restaurants and things to do. I would go back in a heartbeat!
Nadine had all the arrangements in place for our arrival and we had a truly wonderful stay at Winterpond. The house was so charming and welcoming - it was the perfect place for a quiet getaway. Plenty of wood was provided for the stove which was much appreciated. We couldn't have asked for anything more!
We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at Winterpond. The house is beautifully decorated, so thoughtfully designed, spotlessly clean and well supplied for visitor's needs. We loved the views, the walks nearby, the comfortable living room and real dining room; everything about our stay, despite lots of rain followed by a windstorm and very cold weather. Thanks for sharing your home on Orcas! We hope to return.
What a wonderful place to spend a weekend! The home was lovely, rain was abundant and Orcas was as magical as ever. Nadine was an attentive and responsive host and we appreciated her hospitality very much, despite not being able to meet her. We would return again!
