Even though the Portland weather was dreary (expect it in December) our stay at the pocket house was a highlight. It's so beautiful and efficient and in a GREAT location. Cannot wait to stay again in the summer!
George's place was fantastic - just like the photos, it was a great cosy place to stay in Portland. Would definitely recommend this to others.
In short, we felt like we were visiting good friends in Portland and we can't wait to go back! The cottage was perfect, the neighborhood was ideal, the hosts were warm/friendly and extremely helpful.
The Pocket House was exactly as advertised. A great Eco-friendly place near all of Portland's main attractions. George was very communicative and made me feel very comfortable during and after the booking process. I'd highly recommend The Pocket House to anyone looking for a true "Portland" experience.
Such a cute house! I stayed here with my boyfriend and his mother for 3 nights while visiting Portland. The house was just the right size; however, had we stayed longer, we might have wanted more space. It was clean, decorated impeccably, and had a great porch for relaxing. If I ever go back to Portland, I would totally stay here again.
The Pocket House is a spectacular place to stay in Portland! We really enjoyed our time here. The PH is clean, well appointed and in a great location in northeast Portland. We loved the neighborhood -- and it was within easy walking distance to Williams Blvd., Mississippi Avenue and Alberta (website hidden), all neighborhoods where we spent most of our time. Unfortunately George and Nina were traveling during our visit but they kept in touch to be sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Overall, highly recommended. We hope to be back!
George and Nina were the perfect hosts! We stayed in their beautiful Pocket House after the STP bike event and it was exactly as described and pictured online - spectacularly designed, simplistic yet fully functional, comfortable, and private. All this and in a great location too! We were walking distance to the Alberta Arts and Mississippi neighbourhoods, which have a plethora of great food and drink spots (our fave has always been Tasty n Sons). We met a couple of their pups and fell in love instantly while at the same time feeling guilty that we left our furry one at home. It was so nice to have in suite laundry and the soaps and lotions George and Nina supply are all organic and fair trade! We loved the lotion so much that we stopped in at Whole Foods to grab a bottle on our way home (that along with bags of Stumptown and Ristretto coffee beans). Their backyard is nicely shaded from the hot Portland sun where we had a nice outdoor picnic with take out from Grassa (delicious home made pasta). For the most part, the Pocket House stayed cool enough even in 30 degree weather. I would recommend this unique Portland abode to all my friends and family! Our only qualm was that we didn't factor in climbing the ladder to the loft after a 200 mile bike ride! We will be back to hold George to his plans for a backyard bbq on our next visit!
The space is even more beautiful in person than in the pictures. A perfectly architected and designed space, it was perfect for us (two people), very clean and comfortable. George and Nina were fantastic hosts. I had requested they use only fragrance-free cleansers when cleaning the place before our arrival, but they went above and beyond, purchasing all-new fragrance-free dish soap, hand soap, and laundry detergent for our use! Already planning our next visit back.
We loved staying at the Pocket House. George is a great host. He looked after us, including bringing milk and coffee supplies and phoning a cab for our early morning departure to the airport. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe, yet it is just a short walk to good restaurants and to the bus which goes along the main avenue into the city. In Portland city we loved Powell's bookstore. Probably the best bookstore we have ever been in. We also enjoyed tea in the Chinese gardens quite close to there.
Definitely a great little place, very cozy. I could have slept and lounged around all day. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, convenient to a few of the NE neighborhoods like King, Alberta, Mississippi. Transit options are a little limited, but wasn't too bad.
The only real problem is now I need to build my own just like it. The design is that good.
