One of the best places to eat in Newton country is only a short walk down the dirt road -- the Low Gap Cafe. Walk the other way and you reach trails leading all the way to the Buffalo. Easiest access to the river is a short 2 mile drive down to Steele Creek, Ponca low water bridge and Kyle's Landing are also close.
Jasper, the county seat of Newton, is where you will find gas, groceries, more restaurants, galleries, and the unique Emma's Museum of Junk (a must visit in Jasper). Float trip outfitters can be found in Ponca, including our favorite "Lost Valley Canoes". Be sure to visit the Elk center in Ponca and look for Elk in Boxley Valley.
