The Silver King was built in 1900 as a boarding house for miners with a restaurant on the ground floor. In the 1940's it became the Bisbee Hotel. By the time we acquired it in the mid 1970's it had become the Silver King and was in dire need of restoration which we did with the original floor plan in mind. Thus, the reason for the shared baths although we added another bath on the second floor when the Room 4 bar was added. We bill it as The Smallest Bar in Arizona although the second floor lobby and adjacent patio accommodates our guests and live music we have on many occasions. All rooms are uniquely individual. All have sinks, heat, fans, TV's and wireless service.
Guests have immediate access to a unique full bar, Room 4, as well as fine dining and unique shopping within easy walking distance to historic downtown Old Bisbee. The Wonderland of Rocks and Portal Bird Sanctuary in the Chiricahua Mountains are an hour away. Whitewater Draw, winter home of thousands of Sandhill Cranes is 20 minutes away. The Huachuca Mountains, home of Montezuma State Park and another bird sanctuary featuring many types of humingbirds is 40 minutes away. The Dragoon Mountains, also 40 minutes away, feature Cochise Stronghold and another 30 minute drive from there is the Amerind Foundation, a wonderful collection of Native American art and artifacts. Numerous other wonderous sites are within close driving distance.
Other things to note
We have a house cat. Her name is Munchie and she is an astounding 31 years old. We are in the process of getting her declared as the oldest cat at least in the U.S. with the Guiness Book of World Records. Munchie Is with us only in spirit now.
We expect our guests to have fun, have a memorable experience, smoke outside, bring a pet if they so choose, have a drink or two in Room 4, have a cup of coffee in the morning in the lobby, meet other guests or the locals who come in to have a drink, listen to music and even draw on Sunday afternoons during the Drink and Draw sessions that local artists convene.
