Welcome to the historic 9 Mile Schoolhouse! This enchanting storybook retreat is rich in charm, character, and thoughtful details. We are just minutes from Missoula, yet surrounded by peaceful countryside. Inviting, restful, connective and full of whimsy. Picturesque grounds, bonfires, yard games, a cozy taproom for lounging, and space for overflow camping. Ideal for retreats, gatherings, and special occasions. The space
Set on the grounds of the historic 9 Mile Schoolhouse, this enchanting, storybook retreat offers a rare blend of charm, character, and space to gather. The Teacherage and surroundings provide room to connect, unwind, and spread out across the property.

More than just a place to stay, the experience here invites slow mornings, shared meals, and memorable evenings.. outdoor cinema under the stars, bonfires, yard games (including axe throwing), and time in the cozy taproom. Open space allows for outdoor relaxation, making it easy to give guests a peaceful, unhurried feel.

Surrounded by meadow and forest edges just outside Missoula, the setting feels both peaceful and connected, an ideal backdrop for retreats, gatherings, and meaningful time together.

The property is also used for intimate weddings and celebrations, with thoughtfully designed options ranging from simple, storybook-style gatherings to full weekend experiences. Guest access
Guests have private access to the Teacherage along with the surrounding outdoor grounds designed for gathering, relaxing, and enjoying the setting. This includes yard spaces, the firepit area, outdoor cinema setup. taproom/lounge, and designated areas for yard games, lounging spaces, and gardens.

PLEASE NOTE THE UNIQUE LAYOUT: The property includes six sleeping rooms across multiple buildings. The Teacherage contains four private bedrooms and two interior bathrooms. Two additional private studio-style bedrooms are located in separate cottages across the yard. (See photos gallery). The cottages do not contain bathrooms; guests staying in them use the shared bathroom located off the main porch, a short outdoor walk away, and our historic property is spread across multiple buildings.

Use of the property is intended for registered overnight guests. If you’re envisioning hosting additional visitors, a gathering, or something more intentional during your stay, please reach out in advance to explore options, or visit our website.

The main schoolhouse is owner-occupied and not included in guest access, allowing us to thoughtfully care for the property while giving you a sense of privacy throughout your stay.

Personally, I like to lounge in the hammock and read one of the old books from the shelf or play games with the kids, cozy by the fireplace. Skiing destinations and photography adventures are abundant.
We also offer working weekends in which you and your crew get to learn to brew beer and spend an evening tasting and pairing with food!

Hi! I’m Jessie. I am from Montana, and although I love to travel, there really is no place like home! I went to school nearby and when I was a teenager I fell in love with the magic of this old schoolhouse. The charm of the winter market, the spring blooms, the gorgeous iron gate entrance, and the rustic beauty of all the history here. Today my children and I have the immense pleasure of living here ourselves! It’s an absolute dream come true, and we love hosting friends and family and guests.
