"Spacious, light filled house with spectacular sunrises." -- Guest review. Secluded, safe, serene, yet only 3 min. to JT Village and Park Visitor Center, 6 min. to Walmart mall. Pay 28 nights, stay 31. Panoramic amazing views to the horizon from our hilltop. Artisan tile floors, great room with massive ceiling beams. 3000 sq ft living space on 15 acres, miles of virgin desert at your door. WiFi, cable TVs, 4 big evaporation coolers, heat pump. More than a house: an exhilarating experience.

The space
This is a unique place to enjoy lots of private space indoors and out. An amazing historic mansion with tons of character, just 0.3 mi north of Hwy 62. Set amidst miles of open land on three sides, atop a ridge overlooking Joshua Tree National Park, JT Village, and mountain wilderness. Built by a local pioneering family in 1950, it was the first and largest home in the surrounding area. Remodeled with artisan tile floors and wrap-around panoramic windows. Safe and secure. Five bedrooms, three baths, immense living room or "great room," full kitchen, dining areas, 360 degree views of the Park and Village.
Restore your energies with a good night's sleep in the healthy pure air and undisturbed stillness of the desert. Enjoy miles of wide open views of the desert, all in a short hop to village restaurants downtown and the National Park.
The number of beds is flexible. If your group is more than 16 guests, please send an inquiry and we will reply with a special offer. In winter there are extra comforters stored in the closets.
Great place to stay safe and healthy. Sunlight is nature's germicide, viruses can't survive the sun's ultraviolet rays.

Guest access
The Mansion is your private quarters, including the Main Wing and North Wing or Studio. The Casita (Southwest Wing) and the Garage are reserved for the Caretaker.

Access to the wash is via Sunny Vista Rd. Guests should be very careful where the ridge behind the house slopes down into the wash. In some parts there is a sheer cliff down into the ravine, and this includes the top of Juniper Rd. Stay atop the ridge.

There is a half stair between the Kitchen-Dining-Living-Main Bedroom area and rest of house (Sunroom, Bedroom 2 and 3, Front Hall). Wheelchair access into the house with no stair is via West veranda and main bedroom. Three stairs from porch down to patio. The covered porch is the smoking area, off sunroom / kitchen.
Laundry room is private (unless caretaker needs to do laundry, but he does it between guests).
The last photo on the list (go back from first photo) is a layout of the house with the three wings and garages.
Layout of Beds and Baths: Originally the Main Wing had only one bedroom, the others are converted verandas. That's why access to those two bathrooms is through the living room or the main bedroom. The Studio has its own bath off the bedroom.

Neighborhood highlights

Our neighbors mostly seem to be rabbits, doves, quail, or squirrels. The roadrunner and coyote come around too. Out here we are guests of Mother Nature.
Some desert animals may also invite themselves in, like kangaroo rats, field mice or lizards, so it's best not to leave doors open.
Sometimes there may be human neighbors within earshot, so please no firecrackers or other very loud noise near the house.

Wear shoes outdoors as there may be cactus spines about.
Don't let children wander out in the desert. It's easiest to go for a walk East or West along the ridge, but it's also easier to lose sight of the house in those directions. Hiking north on Sunny Vista across the wash you can see the house atop the ridge from a long ways. If anyone gets lost, they should go back to the main highway. The house is easy to see from there.
