Katherine and Cliff's apartment was absolutely gorgeous! It is situated at the top of an old apartment block and overlooks the Tianzifang marketplace. Despite being so close, it's actually really quiet and you can hardly hear any noise at night (probably because the neighborhood is quite sleepy...shops don't open until 10am and close by 8 or 9pm, it seems!). The terrace was beautiful (although I didn't get much of a chance to use it), and the kitchen seemed practical if you did want to cook something (beware if you're tall - the ceiling above the sink is low!). The decorations and little details (like the cute window in the bathroom) were really charming. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to meet Katherine and Cliff as they were away on a trip. But it was pretty easy to arrange how to pick up the key from the lock box and I could still communicate with Katherine via e-mail or text. The apartment was very clean, the wifi worked great, and the bed was huge. What more could you ask for in an Airbnb listing!
The only minor issue was that with the sun rising really early in this part of China (~4:45am), the light would wake me up because the curtains were kind of shear. But that just meant I would have to start the day early and go out and explore the lovely surroundings. I was really surprised by how leafy this part of Shanghai is. I always felt safe walking around at night, even by myself. I loved it so much I wanted to move in permanently! I would definitely recommend this apartment for anyone who's looking for an authentic Shanghai experience.
Perfect location, cosy apartment, lovely roof top terrace and most importantly - Katherine and Cliff were great hosts. Katherine gave us a lot of great tips on what to do in Shanghai, they took us to dinner at their favorite Chinese restaurant and offered to take us on a tour around the city. Definitely recommended.
Katherine has been a great host. I enjoyed my stay here. The place is so convenient as it is just next to Tian Zi Fang which has a lot of cafes and restaurants and little knick knacks here and there. I love the old china house which is cozy and nice. How can I forget Emma... such a lovely dog.

About the Host, Katherine
Hi . I am Katherine . . About me. . . Well . . . . . . .I love life ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! and grew up in North Eastern China. I was born and raised for my first 8 years in a village near Anyang in Henan province which was the ancient capital of China. My lucky break in life came when my Father became an oil "worker" in Liaoning province where the State Owned Oil company that created the area was able to build the best schools in China and where I was educated to a standard that got me into the best university in Shenyang North Eastern University to study English.
After graduating in 2002 I set off to Shanghai with a suitcase to make my fortune and after learning the headhunting business ended up teaching English at Shanghai Maritime University for 5 years to keep my mother happy. My love of the search business and boredom with teaching English persuaded me to quit and I soon became the top billing consultant of 72 in my former company and after 2 years in 2008 they sent me to Singapore to open an office there.
Shortly before this I met Cliff and our relationship has now developed into Husband and Wife and we were married in 2012 in a beautiful town in Italy called Cortina D'Ampezzo where it was only possible for us to stay due to AIRBNB which we always use when traveling.
In 2008 Cliff and I started our company FITCO and we are now in our 6 year of business and I have recently been accepted on to the Fudan Washington Global EMBA program which will elevate my career and business to new heights I am confident.
I have traveled with Cliff to Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, United Kingdom , France, Italy and finally last October to the United States for 23 days where we stayed for 21 in AIRBNB accommodation that made the trip highly affordable.
Most interestingly, the magazine GQ China also interviewed us about our airbnb lifestyle! We had a pleasant interview with Journalist Liya! The photographer also came to our place and took some beautiful pictures. This unforgettable experience made me realize that I am living a most interesting life that I desire!
