About This Listing
A basic but lovely and comfortable little apartment with original details and a lot of character, on a residential side street in central Amsterdam.
I usually live here when I'm not traveling so it's a charming personable space, with a beautiful oak floor, Portuguese tiling in the bathroom, artwork on the wall and well stocked bookshelves and kitchen cabinets so you can feel at home away from home. It's a small place but it feels spacious because I keep it uncluttered, it has a nice Zen feel to it.
The apartment is on the third floor, to be reached with stairs that are quite narrow and steep, compared to modern apartment buildings. This is common in Amsterdam since the city is very densely populated and the historical houses in the city centre are built on very narrow plots of land.
The bedroom with double bed is one floor up in the attic, a lovely quiet space where you will sleep under the wooden roofbeams. It has a bay window with traditional Amsterdam hoist beam overlooking the city. There are two small sofa's that can be folded down flat and turned into a single bed in the living room. Bed linen and towels are provided. Please note that since the bedroom is in the attic you will have to climb a little steep staircase (a ladder really :) from the living room to the bedroom, so this is not for the elderly!
- Bed linnen and towels provided
- Breakfast provided: cereal, fruit, milk and juice
- Basic food stuff provided plus all cooking utensils
- Amsterdam city council tourist tax of 5,5% included in the price
- 3rd/4th floor, no elevator
- Wifi internet, no radio or tv
- Strictly no smoking and no shoes inside the apartment please
- Walking distance from shops, public transport, restaurants, tourist attractions and museums: information available upon arrival
- Inside information about what's happening in Amsterdam from a local who loves the city :-)
The apartment is all yours! It has wifi internet, a livingroom with a beautiful solid oak floor, a kitchen with everything you need for cooking (except for a microwave) and a washing machine, a bathroom with a bath tub, a shower which has good hot water, a little cold water sink and a toilet. The apartment is comfortably heated with a gas heater. The attic room has a small electric heater and electrical blanket for a toasty bed on cold nights. There is no radio or tv but Amsterdam has plenty of entertainment to offer!
Detailed info about how the heating and internet etc. work is provided in the airbnb house manual you'll receive with your reservation confirmation.
Interaction with Guests
My apartment is a real home, custom made by me and shared with you, not a chain-hotel or dime-a-dozen hostel. As you can see I provide a lot of info for you about the apartment and about myself and I have quite a few references, so you can feel comfortable and secure renting my place; you know what you will get!
I would like to ask the same from you; please fill out your profile with some background information about yourself and provide me with some information as to why you would like to rent my apartment when you enter a booking request, especially if you don't have any reviews or references yet. So I can feel equally secure in renting out my lovely apartment to you.
I'm not always around to meet you for check-in but I have perfect arrangements for you to pick up the key in a nearby cafe or a friend who will be there to meet you for check-on or be on standby in case of trouble. You can always call, email or text me of my friend should issues arise.
I've made a guide of the neighbourhood with my personal recommendations for cafes and restaurants. I'm very happy to provide info on what to do and where to go based on your preferences, by email or if I'm there to meet you for check-in I can advise you in person.
I'm very flexible with check-in and check-out times and if you would like a late check-out it is possible to check out in the afternoon and leave your luggage to pick up later at your convenience. This way you can make the most of your stay at my apartment.
Information about the apartment and the neighbourhood is provided upon arrival, I have a selection of guidebooks and leaflets with tourist information about the major attractions of Amsterdam. Please also check the guidebook I created on Airbnb as it provides a lot of info about facilities in the neighbourhood like supermarkets, nice cafes, galleries etc. As an architectural history student and culture lover I can tell you more about the historical and cultural side of Amsterdam if you're interested.
The neighbourhood is relaxed and safe, I've lived here for over 10 years now and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
This little pad in the city centre of Amsterdam is close to everywhere you want to go. 5 minutes walking from Flower Market, Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, Van Gogh museum, Leidseplein, Heineken Brewery and Albert Cuyp market. It's on a quiet and friendly residential side street with lots of shops, restaurants and facilities such as supermarkets, bakeries and bike rental nearby, and a tram stop that takes you straight to Amsterdam Central Station is just outside the apartment. Another tram stop towards the Jordaan and West area is right around the corner.
Detailed info on how to reach the apartment by public transport is provided in the confirmation email
Other Things to Note
Basic food stuff is provided: fresh fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, juice, milk, rice, pasta, oil, herbs, usually some organic vegetables as well. Please feel free to use everything you find in my kitchen.
Tourist tax of 5,5% is included in the price.
Please take off your shoes before you go into the apartment: to protect the polished floorboards and to keep it nice and clean (this is not customary in The Netherlands but I picked up the habit of taking off the shoes in Asia, makes a lot of sense now doesn't it :)
Strictly no smoking. Not inside, and not out of the windows as this looks very bad for the neighbours. No smoking at all. Nothing. It's bad for you :-)
The apartment is in a block of three apartments with a shared front door and stairwell; so please mind the neighbours and do not disturb them with noise or queries about the apartment. Any questions or if you have lost your key: please call me or my friend.
The host canceled this reservation 17 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I am traveling on these dates and unfortunately I have not been able to organize cleaning and check-in service on the date of arrival of my guests with my usual cleaning lady. I'm very sorry I didn't manage to sort it out, this is highly unusual and I'll make sure I'll have more assistants on standby in the future!
Vera's apartment is exactly the same as the photos posted. It's a very cosy apartment which is located at an ideal location. It's just a few minutes walk to The Heineken Experience, The Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum. Vera is a very nice lady. Check in and out was very flexible. When we check in Vera helped us with our luggages and there was a bottle of red wine for us. When we checked out Vera helped us with our luggages and helped us called a taxi. It's a nice and ideal apartment not to be missed. =)
We LOVED Vera's apartment! I lived in Amsterdam for year and travel back frequently. The location made it easy to get around to many area's of Amsterdam that I love to explore. We rented bikes from Black Bike which was about a 7 minute walk away (the best way to travel through the city) which made it that much easier.
The apartment was clean and comfortable and by boyfriend and I immediately felt at home. Vera had a great guide book of recommendations in the area next to bottle of wine. Very thoughtful!
As a heads up, the stairs to the apartment and bedroom are steep. I used to live in a similar apartment with equally steep stairs, but I would imagine that it could be bit of a shock to someone who expects elevators in every building (good luck finding that in Amsterdam!). I think it adds to the charm and it didn't bother me a bit. :)
Great place, great host, great time in Amsterdam!
Vera was a great host and very accommodating to our needs mainly our late arrival to her place. She provided us with recommendations of nearby places as well as almost everything we could need inside the apartment. The location could not have been more perfect for us - within walking distance to almost anywhere you would want to go in Amsterdam! The only thing to be aware of is the steep climb both into her apartment (I think very typical of Amsterdam apartments) and into the bedroom. It took a little while for my parents to adjust to this, but after a couple days we barely noticed! Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely return!
Vera made us feel really welcome to her place in Amsterdam, with her precise description of the journey to the apartment, and a bottle of red wine and a lovely welcoming card on the table when we arrived. The neighborhood was absolutely lovely, and we understand why Vera loves it so much there. Lots of great food and so much to see, and best of all: So close to everything! The apartment was just as described and we had everything we needed and more for our stay. I'd definetly come back to visit again in the future :)
About the Host, Vera
I'm a well traveled open-minded global citizen who has settled in Amsterdam. I've lived in Ireland, the UK, Australia and Thailand but somehow ended up back in my home country. I love life in Amsterdam: all the good things of big city life but on a human scale and easy going pace.
I like my work as a producer of lectures and debates for a large cultural institution. Next to work I study art history, specializing in architectural history, at the University of Amsterdam (funded by airbnb :)
I'm very health minded: I keep in shape by racing my lovely vintage racing bike, I try to do yoga twice a week and enjoy cooking with fresh organic veg. I love to travel and I like sharing my lovely little apartment with visitors to Amsterdam when I'm away for a weekend or longer.
