Dorchester is a historic neighborhood of over 6 square miles in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The town was founded by Puritans who emigrated from Dorchester, England in 1630.
The neighborhood is a mixed neighborhood, not a wealthy area, but safe. The community has shown many improvements over the past 15 years that I’ve lived here. There’s a Police station right behind my property, and Buddhist center in front. Everything you need is just around the corner: Public library, restaurants and shopping plaza, T-mobile store.
The ocean and Castle Island are a 5 min drive away. UMASS, JFK library and museums are a 5 min drive away, or free shuttle buses are accessible from the JFK T-stop.
A 4 min walk to the Red line subway at Field’s Corner stop. The Red line is the most very convenient line in the Boston subway system, which connects Field’s Corner to the Airport, South Station, Downtown Crossing, MGH hospital, MIT, and Harvard sq. Free and easy access to my home from the Airport by public transportation.
My home is a duplex with two houses attached to each other on the same grounds. There’s the main Victorian house, built in 1848, and a Townhouse attached to it at the back that was built in the early 1900’s.
The Townhouse: Sunny, beautiful, clean, big, comfortable place for gatherings of friends and families. There is everything to feel at home: Accommodates 4 people, 2 additional on sleep sofa. One bedroom has king size bed, the second one queen size bed. Sleep sofa in the living room.
The Victorian house: Has a medium sized kitchen, and separate dining area (with access to the balcony/patio) and living room area. There are 1.5 baths, and 4 bedrooms available with queen-sized beds (sleeps 8 total). Can sleep up to 10 with single beds available. For larger groups it is possible to reserve both houses to be comfortable.
The two houses are connected by a sunny, open, patio-balcony, at the back- a nice place to grill or picnic outside. For bigger groups you can reserve both houses. The main front entrance leads to the Victorian house, and the Townhouse has its separate entrance through the patio/balcony at the back.
The plaza around the corner (Liquor store, food market last one, ATM), South Bay Mall is 10 min to drive or by T you can get there as well (Best Buy, TJMax, Office Depot…)
Food & Entertainment:
Blarney Stone Pub, D-Bar, Pizza, Vietnamese food : Pho-Hoa, Anh-Hong, McKennas café in Savin Hill, for New England breakfast. All within 5-7 min walk or less

The house: There are two houses attached on the same ground: Main Victorian house #1 on the door, and the entrance for Townhouse #2, is on the back. Portable crib for child is available.
End of the street is the bay area where you will see UMASS Boston, JFK library, if you continue driving it will take you to Castle Island and Pleasure Bay beach, 7 min drive.

I really like Boston and Hermina's house. We had a great time at Hermina's house. Hermina is a great host. The house is so beautiful, comfortable and convenient. Because Hermina and her house we don't want to leave Boston. I would certainly recommend Hermina's house. Thanks Hermina :)
Before we arrived we got a document that had all required information on it, which was very helpful.
The house itself was nice and clean with very good beds and two restrooms. It is very close to the red line T station and a grocery store. There is also a nice place to eat nearby (the Blarney Stone). If you don't mind to go to downtown Boston by T than it is a very good place to stay. We enjoyed it.
You can also rent her car if you want which is nice if you want to go out for a day.
First, the positives, the apartment (we were in Apt. 2), is right next to a police station so you do feel safe. You are within a five minute walk from the Fields Corner T station and you can be anywhere in Boston in 30 minutes. You are close to shopping and a very nice restaurant, The Blarney Stone. Also the beds were comfortable.
Now the negatives, the Dortchester neighborhood is pretty low income, unclean, with half of the storefronts vacant. It is improving but slowly. Take a look at the Wiki page for this neighborhood before you rent. We did, however, feel safe walking around. The apartment is as pictured, but was unclean in the kitchen area and the upstairs bathroom. The towels were thin and used, and there were no washcloths. The wood flooring in the main level was squishy and we avoided walking on certain areas for fear of breaking it. The house is Victorian; but this back apartment had no Victorian features. Also, there is a lack of curtains in the kitchen, upper bath and upper hallway.
Although we had a great trip to Boston and the apartment was habitable, we would not recommend.
Hermina was out of town but her stand in was lovely and very helpful! She had the place perfectly clean for us and we felt super welcomed during our stay. The space is basic and exactly what we needed for our short stay. You are right near a Boston police department so you feel safe! There is also grocery near by which makes it easy to keep your fridge stocked for breakfasts, etc!
Very nice place and the townhouse was very spacious. The place was also very close to the subway station. We wish there were more places to eat nearby.

About the Host, Hermina
Originally from Armenia, I live in Boston last 15 years. My house is one of many beautiful Victorian houses in oldest neighborhoods in Boston (Dorchester). The house is beautiful, big, clean and colors are my addition to its charm. I love colors you can see it in the pictures.
I love the idea of B&B and now I have chance to host people from the world in my own house. I love traveling and the experience of meeting locals and one way of doing it, is where do you stay.
I share what I know about Boston with pleasure and sometimes I learn from travelers what they discovered in Boston.
