About this listing
Convenient and comfortable 1 bedroom apartment 1.5 miles to downtown C'ville and right off of I-64. Separate entrance, separate bedroom with queen bed, full bathroom, small kitchen attached to living room. Access to storage and private laundry area.
32" flat screen TV with comprehensive cable package, PS3, and BOSE sound system with Aux cord and CD player.
**Please note: We will only be accepting 1 week or longer rentals beginning August 2015. Thanks!
One bedroom apartment in the basement of our home, featuring full bath and separate entrance.
32" flat-screen TV in living room, PS3 with DVD player, a Bose speaker system, and access to a variety of books and DVDs. There is a small 19" TV in bedroom. We have DISH cable and our package comes through on both TVs. You will be provided with wifi password upon arrival.
The apartment is fully furnished with newer Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel and IKEA furnishings.
We provide fresh linens and towels along with basic shower and kitchen essentials. There is also a full-sized hair dryer in the bathroom. For the ladies, a straightening iron or curling iron can be provided upon request.
The queen bedroom sleeps 2. The couch is not a sleeper, but can comfortably sleep an additional average sized person if need be (just remove the back cushions for more room!)
The basement apartment has 3 small windows throughout, 2 of which have screens installed to be opened for fresh air and a screen door so that you can open the front door to let in more light and air if you'd like.
There is an additional area in the basement that is separate of the apartment (connected by a door that locks on the guest side) that we use for storage and there is a separate laundry area there that guests can use. We have our own washer/dryer upstairs. Occasionally we pop down to this area to retrieve things from storage, but it is separate from the actual apartment. Long-term guests are more than welcome to use the storage area, too!
The kitchen has a small 4-burner range/oven, sink, 3/4 size refrigerator with separate freezer, all basic cooking utensils, microwave, and coffee maker. We also have many more kitchen items upstairs in our main living area so if you need anything just ask.
Interaction with Guests
Being that the apartment has its own separate entrance we would like to provide our guests with a private place to stay. That being said, we have outdoor areas that could be shared based upon the individual needs of our guests. There is a small cafe table with 2 chairs that is on a separate concrete patio attached to the entrance of the apartment. It is located outside of the fenced yard area and is solely for the use of our guests.
We both have busy schedules but are homebodies at heart, so we enjoy being around the house as much as our lives allow. We will always make ourselves available via phone/text/email to answer any questions you may have during your stay.
We do have a dog, but luckily she is not a barker except for a rogue one here or there when she is outside and sees something exciting. We don't let her just stay outdoors and bark all day! She also doesn't play with toys (we swear she would be a book worm if she were human) so you don't have to worry about hearing her running and chasing a ball upstairs, etc. We are rather quiet and extra considerate of any unnecessary noise when we have guests!
Private U-shaped street. It is not a through street, so there is no concern with traffic outside. Kind neighbors in a diverse neighborhood. There is a convenience store down the street and around the corner. Belmont-area restaurants are 0.8 miles away and the downtown mall (charlottesville's lively historic city center) is about 1.5 miles away. There are mountain views from the property and we are only 3 miles to Monticello!
Plenty of private parking in our long driveway.
Other Things to Note
Well-behaved, house-broken dogs welcome. We also prefer a dog that does not bark much. Our own dog is not a barker, so it kind of drives her nuts if she hears a dog barking somewhere else in the house (we have tested this theory...) Please inquire in your message if you would like to bring your pet.
No smoking, please
Becky and Marcus were wonderful hosts. Their hospitality exceeded all expectations and they were very accommodating with regard to questions or requests. The rental was very comfortable and met all of my needs. I would highly recommend this listing to others.
Becky and Marcus' place was exactly as advertised and perfect for our stay. They were very flexible in coordinating our arrival. They were very welcoming, informative and prepared to make our stay better. The place came with every necessity of an apartment and had numerous nice to haves thrown in which was greatly appreciated. I would absolutely stay here again when back in C-ville.
Becky and Marcus were excellent hosts! My boyfriend and I visited C'ville for the week, and we felt instantly welcome and at home. The snacks and coffee were much appreciated after a long drive. The kitchen area has plenty of pots, dishes, and silverware, which was a plus for us since we enjoy cooking. This apartment was perfectly affordable without compromising quality at all. We were so comfortable and cozy all week long. We even did a load of laundry partway through the week!
We appreciated the communicativeness as well as the privacy. Our hosts made it clear they were available to help if we needed anything, but since their set-up was so clear we didn't really need anything and there was hardly any interaction once we arrived. They also had an info binder with tips for the house and recommendations of things to do around town. Very useful!
It's also close enough to downtown that we never had to stress about distances, but far enough that it was perfectly quiet and peaceful at night.
I would absolutely stay here again.
Becky and Marcus were great welcomers! They showed off the apartment, asked if we needed anything, and then quietly disappeared, which is exactly what I wanted. I was there to help my son after surgery when he was hospitalized, so I wanted down time when I came back to the apartment. It's well situated to everything, especially to the UVA hospital. Things were clean and comfortable. All in all, it was perfect for my needs! ( I loved having a private entrance!)
This was our first airbnb experience and it was perfect. We couldn't get a hotel room anywhere nearby and decided to try this. Quite honestly, if we were to go back, we would probably see if Becky and Marcus had availability before any of the hotels. We have a little 6 month old baby so I was just waiting for something to not be as expected. Not the case here. Their place is great...quiet, private and comfortable. It's very easy to downtown Charlottesville. You won't be disappointed. Cable TV, movies, parking, snacks, coffee, an ironing board,...I could go on but you get the picture.
Becky and Marcus made me feel completely welcomed from the moment I got there. I stayed with them for 2 months while I was in Virginia for a rotation for school, and I could not have picked a better place! They had thought of everything and were the best hosts I have ever had. From food and activity recommendations, to actually taking me out and showing me Charlottesville, they did it all! They are two of the kindest, most thoughtful, and fun-loving people that I have ever met and I would stay with them again and again. Becky had the apartment stocked with all the things I could have ever wanted and they both were so willing and eager to help in any way they could...they even helped me break into my car at 7am after I locked my keys in it, with it running, before work...Basically, I could never say enough nice things about Becky and Marcus and anyone would be lucky to enjoy their company. **Especially if you are a grad student that is rotating through the area!
Becky and Marcus were amazing hosts during my stay with them. The apartment was clean and ready to go for me, and they provided a warm welcome when I arrived. Everything was exactly as described, and the apartment was a great place to lay my head. All the kitchen amenities you need, 2 TVs with satellite and a comfy couch and bed. The off street parking was appreciated, and the street itself was quiet and off the beaten path a bit (but not too far!). Overall location was great, near the highway with easy access to downtown. Would highly recommend!

About the Host, Becky And Marcus
Hi! We are two lovebirds who, as of January 2015, own our own handmade furniture and decor company called Reclaimed Goods. Think: rustic barn wood paired with modern, functional designs. We are so fortunate that we now get to split our time and our business between our 2 favorite places- Charlottesville, VA and Rockport, MA. Airbnb has been a really great way for us over the past year to financially support being small business owners!
Becky, formerly a medical sales representative, is originally from Bucks County, PA and found herself bouncing between PA, DC, and Charlottesville throughout her 20s. She is a huge fan of making the best of whatever life throws at you, or at the very least finding the humor in every situation. She loves interior design, organic juicing, and EDM* (electronic dance music). *Marcus HATES EDM.
Marcus, formally a local C'ville coffee shop manager, is from Ashland, VA. He enjoys growing his beard, makes the best latte on this side of Seattle, and would eat hot dogs every day for the rest of his life if he could. He does a month-long Vegan diet every year just to balance his hot dog consumption. He also owns a one-of-a-kind Dale Earnhardt painting which Becky allows him to proudly display...in his workshop.
Both Marcus and Becky bond over their love of humor, live music, talk radio (we are nerds at heart), and enjoying the little things in life. We also make fun of our rescue dog, Miss Leila Bear. A lot. We love her to pieces, but she really does deserve it. Guaranteed that she would dish it out right back to us if she could.
