The Space

Situated on the boundary of the beautiful, world famous Lake District National Park and handy for the Yorkshire Dales National Park too - great for exploring the outdoors or chilling in beautiful countryside.

Our house is only 10 mins drive from the pretty town of Windermere. It is a 17 century former farmhouse, with lots of rustic character, surrounded by lovely countryside, including fields full of sheep and cows, gently grazing. However Kendal town centre only 20 mins walk away. There is off road parking and secure bike storage.
Wake up to the sound of the birds and sheep!

In our house we have a double room available, with a second double room if required.
Good cotton bed linen is provided along with towels.
The main room is £49 for 2 people including a continental breakfast.
A lovely breakfast of fresh fruit, yoghurt, croissant, toast, cereal is laid out in the mornings

We also have a third double room with a futon bed, which is very comfortable. The room also has the Computer and desk, which limits your space a little. But the room does not feel cramped. This can be booked, for a fifth person, including breakfast, when booked along with the other 2 rooms.

The bathroom which is exclusively for your use has an over the bath shower.

We also offer Free WIFI internet.

You can have the use of your own sitting room with woodburning stove, if required, or you can sit and chat to us over a cuppa, or a beer! There is no TV available.
Feel free to make tea, coffee, fruit/herbal teas in our kitchen whenever you like.

There are no cooking facilities available.
However if you don't feel like eating out you are welcome to bring a take away back to the house

The nearest railway stations are Kendal, or Oxenholme - pick up from Kendal station may be possible. The buses pass the end of our lane and take you into the heart of the Lake District.

Kendal is a pretty and lively market town with a good choice of restaurants etc and a theatre, cinema and leisure centre/swimming pool.
The house is set in stunning countryside and there are lovely walks from the house if you don’t want to drive. Windermere is only 8 miles away and you can be in our favourite place in the world, Langdale, in about 45mins.
We can advise you on walks to suit your needs and other places of interest, as we love the Lake District very much, and spend lots of time exploring it.
We have a friend who may be able to guide you on a walk if you feel like taking advantage of a local person's knowledge. Let us know in advance if this interests you and we may be able to organise this.
Debbie and Chris live in the house along with Poppy and Beanie our small, friendly dogs and we are looking forward to meeting you :). We realise that some people may not feel like meeting our dogs and that is fine. they are never allowed upstairs and they are happy to stay in their own space!!.
So go on give yourself a holiday! We would love to meet you.

  • The Caracterhouse (email hidden) to stay with very kind and caring hosts! The countyside is amazing, the lane towards the house gives one the feeling of being part of the countryside. The accomodation itself is fine, good beds and bathroom, clean and fresh. A good breakfast was served by Debbie. Debbie and Chris gave us good tips to explore the magnificent lake-district. In short, a recommendation worthy B&B!

  • This what Airbnb is all (email hidden). Debbie and Chris were a lovely couple who made us feel completely at home in their charming period cottage. We were relaxed the moment we arrived and they were the perfect hosts. We totally recommend this as a place to stay in Kendal.

  • My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Debs and Chris's home! They are warm, friendly and the most thoughtful hosts. My 7 year old son absolutely loved staying here as I did too. We felt totally relaxed and enjoyed a generous and leisurely breakfast each morning. If we could we'd be back again next week, but will have to wait till our next visit from Australia :-)

  • Our stay here was a lovely one! Debbie and Chris were wonderful host. They were warm, friendly and really a delight to talk to. They even went out of their way to drive us to certain places when they were not busy. Their home is clean, tidy and the bed was very comfortable. In addition, it has a beautiful view of the hills yet is not too far from Kendal town (walking distance). It was easy to get to the lakes by bus or train. We wish that we stayed longer and we were sad to leave their pretty cottage. We highly recommend this place and would definitely go back when we visit the lakes again!

  • We were very pleased with our choice to stay with Debbie and Chris. Our expectations were exceeded with the accommodations. Their place has plenty of character, is very clean and Debbie and Chris are great people. They make you feel so welcome. We had plenty of conversations with them and shared many stories. Chris offered us many suggestions for hiking opportunities in the area.
We highly recommend booking a pleasant stay with Debbie and Chris.

  • A fantastic weekend spent hiking in the Lakes District staying with Debbie and Chris. Really nice people who were warm and welcoming at the end of our days returning from walking.

Really appreciated their local knowledge, map borrowing and good yarns by the fire. The house and rooms were very homely, clean and a relaxing. Delicious breakfasts that set us up for the day ahead, the perfect start to do the day for me as I prefer cereals, fruit and pastries instead of a heavy cooked English breakfast.

A beautiful farm setting, waking up the stunning farm views, fresh air and sheep!

Just what we needed as a long weekend break from London. If we go back to the Lakes District we will most definitely stay with Debbie and Chris again. Thanks!

About
We are Deb and Chris. We both love the outdoors and spend lots of time in the fells. We know the Lake District really well and think it’s the best place in the world - especially when the sun shines! We have two sons now off expanding their horizons so have space to share. Debs entrepreneurial brother tells us we “need to make our assets sweat” (?!?) so we thought we’d try Airbnb and hope to meet some nice people along the way. We share a love of nature and try to live a low impact lifestyle but also enjoy nights out, food and the arts. Thank goodness for the Kendal Brewery Arts Centre – though it has to be said that Chris spends a lot more time in the bar than the theatre! If you come and stay with us you’ll get a warm welcome, comfy rooms, easy access to the Lakes, Howgills and Dales and any advice you want about where to walk/climb/paraglide/bike/lakeswim/eat/drink etc. Hope to meet you soon.
