This is a fantastically beautiful home, with spacious common rooms, a sunny kitchen, and two large and comfortable master bedrooms. While the third bedroom is small, it is sunny, cozy, and comfortable. The bathroom is equally gracious in its dimensions and appointments, and accessible via a walkthrough from both master bedrooms. The back master bedroom also includes an en suite half-bath, very convenient. The home is nestled in the hills of Oakland, and while the neighborhood is quiet and mellow, it is also very easy to get to from major highways and thoroughfares. The home is one block (more or less) from a major supermarket, and a short walk away from Piedmont Ave, with its large selection of restaurants and bars. I LOVED running in the Mountain view cemetery every morning, and even took an early evening run one day to see the sunset over the Bay, which was FANTASTIC. All in all, a magical Bay Area experience. Highly recommended.
We had a great five days in this gorgeous old home. The amazing well maintained woodwork and vintage facilities provide you with a flash back to times when things were built with care and built to last. Beautiful home! The neighborhood is super cute and there are all sorts of neat eateries and grocery shopping within a very pleasant walk. Our favorite time in the house was early morning coffee time with windows open to the neighborhood morning chorus of songbirds. Judy was very clear and easy to communicate with. Note: Onsite parking is very limited. This is the one place where a little bit of an update would be a good idea. It wasn't hard to find a spot close to the house, but plan on parking on the street.
We enjoyed our time at Judy's Craftsman home. The home has most of its original details including the old knob and tube push button switches in the entry way. We were welcomed by a beautiful bouquet of flowers on the dining room table. The house has been well loved and having been around for a hundred years or so, it is a bit worn around the edges. We found the house to be beautiful and homey. The beds were all comfortable as were the bedding and towels. The sofas in the living rooms were also comfortable (I have a bad back and this is an achievement worth noting). A nice surprise was that the dining room table provided ample room for our family to sit and play board games and have munchies out at the same time. One small thing to note, is that if you are counting on using the driveway for parking, it is frequently blocked by street parking, but we were always able to find parking on the street within one block of the house.
Everyone else has pretty much covered things! The house itself is lovely, and the beds were very comfortable. The third bedroom (not pictured) is quite small, but it's functional. Our only complaint about it was the lack of three-pronged plug-ins in that room, which made the nice desk in there less usable since we couldn't plug in a laptop.
I was driving a Corolla (hardly a large vehicle!) and could only fit in the parking space with my mirrors flipped in and with someone to hold the gate open so it didn't scrape the car, but the street parking was never an issue.
The location is really convenient - central, easy access to the freeway, close to lots of great restaurant and shopping options.
I definitely recommend this house, and will be back if I'm in the market for a three bedroom in the area again.
The house was as advertised. The bedrooms are pretty large and the furniture in the house is very nice. Judy came by to make sure we got into the house and had everything we needed. There are a lot of little touches that add a lot of value to the stay. We really enjoy this part of Oakland so we had a great time exploring while staying here for a week. There was plenty of room for 6, and sharing the one shower ended up working out fine.
We found the Brown Shingle charming and clean. Flowers and fresh scones made us feel welcome and check-in was very easy. The kitchen is fairly well-equipped and the house is nearby to shops and conveniences that made our trip easier overall. The neighborhood is charming, and we enjoyed the sunlight on the front porch and in the back yard sitting area.
House was very nice, location is great. Beds and linens were terrific, outdoor areas were also very nice for relaxing.
The parking space isn't really a parking space at all, but off-street parking was not an issue. Also be aware that there is a unit below that is also rented via airbnb, so you may run into other guests in the outdoor spaces.
