Our townhouse, remodeled in 1999, is very special, comfortable,located on a quiet street in Malasaña. As a private residence,permitting independence and privacy as essential factors, QUIET AND LARGE.Heart of Madrid includes THREE independent apartments (Duplo, Patio and Balcon) each with a separate lock and keys. There are a total of 3 kitchens and 4 bathrooms! Guest are allowed access, although not included in rental rate, to our private Art Showroom to relax.
Each apartment has bed and bath linens are also included.
Ample public transportation, although hardly needed, is within a short walk.
Concerning this 19th c. building, New York Times wrote in it's Great Homes and Destinations section “it is on a quiet side street of old buildings with wrought-iron balconies, a few blocks from the Gran Via, Madrid’s cacophonous main thoroughfare. The neighborhood,Malasaña, is a joy, with cafes, shops and restaurants frequented by the locals.”
Tino Calabuig and Rosalind Williams, your hosts, live on the top floors of the townhouse, and are visual artists; he, from Madrid, and she, from San Francisco, have made Madrid their home for the past 40 years.
The hosts add, "We've hosted groups visiting Madrid, invited for weddings, engagement celebrations, university seminars, and even get-togethers with friends who want to reunite and spend a few days together."

Nearby, a half a block away, are Calle del Pez and Calle Espíritu Santo, bustling, trendy streets with an ample offering of cafés, international restaurants, food stores, flower shops, as well as music shops and boutiques.
A 6 minute walk to la Gran Via, Spain’s version of Broadway with most major theaters, movies, (original version and dubbed in Spanish) and shops like Zara, H&M, FNAC, El Corte Inglés,as well as, La Casa del Libro and La Central (Madrid’s main bookstores), etc, etc.
Shoes, for men and women, and handbags in nearby Chueca as well as Calle Fuencarral. Elegant, high-end shopping is not far away, by metro or taxi, in the Salamanca area.
A 20 minute walk to the Prado Museum, the Thyssen, and Museo Reina Sofia, Caixa Forum,the Palacio Real, the Plaza Mayor or the Mercado San Miguel and various tapa bars, including the Gourmet Experience on the 9th floor of El Corte Ingles at Plaza Callao, open 10.00 am to 10.00 pm.

One more thing, the Art Showroom can be used to host a
reception or give a presentation and may be rented
independently on a daily basis.

Owners reside on top floors of building, respectful of guest's privacy. If requested, offer recommendations and help but are respectful of our guests' privacy.
Close to the Gran Via. Many cafés, restaurants, bars, shops nearby.Walking distance to museums and cultural centers.
Abundant public transportation: taxis, buses and subway(metro).
Other Things to Note
Optional parking within 200 meters.
-NO PARTIES, NO SMOKING, NO PETS
-TURN OFF ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS (lights, air conditioning units, extractors for stove,etc.) WHEN OUT OF APARTMENTS.
-The piano in the Art Showroom is to be used by "virtuosos" and music lovers
-When checking out, leave all keys in the door of each apartment.
NOTE. Lost keys must be replaced at the guest's expense.
- PLEASE TRY TO LEAVE THE APARTMENTS NEAT AND IN ORDER.
From Jun 1 - Aug 31, 2015 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
About the Host, Rosalind W. & Tino C.
Rosalind says: Photography curatorial efforts, art, teaching, and food(everything about it--reading,shopping,cooking, exploring,etc.)...are my passions.
Tino's passions are: His artwork and renovating architectually challenging spaces.
We both enjoy sharing information about our love of the city with friends, acquaintances, and our guests.
Tino C. is a visual artist,(painting,sculptor, video) film and documentary maker, born in Colmenar de Oreja, a village near Chinchón, raised in Madrid. Rosalind W., from San Francisco, is a visual artist (acrylic paintings and surface design textiles). They met in Madrid when she was studying on a junior-year-abroad program. He subsequently studied at the San Francisco Art Institute on an MFA program. They've been married and living in Madrid for over 40 years.
