About this listing
We're a traditional, family-owned and run riad situated in the heart of the Medina in Marrakech. It is a perfect example of a a two hundred and fifty year old Moroccan courtyard house. We are a true Moroccan home-from-home.
Just a minute’s stroll from the bustling Jemaa El Fna, l’Orientale is a haven of peace and tranquillity, where we aim to delight all your senses. We place great importance on good traditional Moroccan cooking, comfortable beds and the warmest of welcomes, all within a traditional and elegant environment.
This listing is for a private room with a double bed and the option of adding a single bed if needed. There is an en-suite bathroom with a shower and towels are included.
Whether your stay is just overnight or for a week or longer, we hope you will feel, as many of our guests do, that you have found a new home in Marrakech to which you will want to return.
Other than the room itself, we have a good selection of areas throughout the riad where you can relax, slumber with a book and sip mint tea. Downstairs we have two traditional salons, one with a large fireplace which we use for cold winter evenings. The courtyard itself is available for using at all times of the day.
On the top floor, we have a glorious sun terrace which is broken into separate areas and levels to maximise privacy. There is a sunshade for those who chose not to sit directly in the sun as well as four sunbeds on the very top terrace where you can spend an afternoon gently tanning!
Interaction with Guests
Our manager Latifa will be present daily to welcome guests and to ensure you have everything you need. We also have a night man who looks after the house and guests from early evening through to the morning, in addition to our excellent team of cooks and cleaners.
Taxis to and from the airport can be arranged and we can assist you with reliable car and minibus hire, either self-drive or with a driver.
Parking nearby is possible, although with the small streets of the medina its not possible to drive to the riad. It is 4-5 mins walk from the nearest car park.
If you're arriving under your own steam, just let us know when you're due to arrive and we can meet you at the main square and show you the way back to the riad and help you with your bags.
Other Things to Note
Our authentic Moroccan breakfasts are included in the cost of your stay. In addition lunch and dinner can be provided on request. Aziz will serve your dinner by candle-light in the courtyard, or in winter, beside a cedar log fire in the Salon.
Our food is all home cooked, with a great emphasis on quality local ingredients which are all freshly bought daily.
In addition to keeping your room clean and tidy, our staff are happy to take care of your personal laundry on request.
There is free Wi-Fi access throughout the Riad, for those who just cannot bear to be out of touch with the world!
Latifa will be happy to suggest interesting trips and help you to make any necessary arrangements.
We're really not a place that has a "set of rules" - we aim to be a home from home, not a strict hotel. However, we obviously expect our guests to be considerate of others and to not make too much noise if leaving for a 5am flight from the airport!
From Dec 19, 2015 - Jan 10, 2016 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
Stopped back at the Riad for one night before my flight. Abdul was very helpful, and my ride to the airport went seamlessly. They made it really easy to book rides to and from the airport with them, making my trip much easier!
The riad was absolutely lovely! Such a calm haven in the middle of an extremely lively city. Hugo answered all of my questions before arrival (I had many!) and arranged a car to meet me at the airport - so grateful as my flight was really delayed. Latifa was absolutely wonderful and helped me arrange an awesome excursion to the Ouzoud Waterfalls. Abdul was also awesome and was great to chat with after an eventful day in the city. Kadija made amazing breakfast each morning. Looking forward to spending one more night there before leaving Morocco!
We are extremely grateful to have stayed here during our first visit in Marrakech. Latifah was the most hospitable human being we have met and made us feel just right at home. The riad is located right next to the square and is extremely convenient to get around from, although taking awhile to get used to. The riad is beautiful and very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to everyone visiting Marrakech!
Great proactive approach from Hugo before we arrived to ensure we can find the place as it is hidden among many small streets and only few meters from the Jemaa El Fna.
Very warm w elcome by Latifa local manager. She is really great trying to support all our requests and wishes. 100% service.
Great central location, clean.
Rooms are a bit smaller, but ok for sleep.
Fully enjoy and can recomend.
This riad is the heart of the Medina and has some of the best staff I've ever seen. I was greeted from the moment I reached the Medina. The staff made my visit a very enjoyable one. If I know of anyone who decides to go to Marrakech I will recommend they stay here. Thank you guys for a wonderful first trip. :)
Wow, we absolutely loved this riad! We were greeted so warmly by Latifa, who had arranged our airport pickup, and met us off the taxi and walked us to the riad so we didn't get lost! She also gave us loads of information, so it felt like having a concierge on hand! We stayed on the top floor - the room was well furnished and clean, and was cleaned daily. We spent loads of time on the roof terrace hanging out on the comfy sofas, and there is also a higher terrace with sun loungers on. Breakfast was served at a time that suited us (early for when we went on day trips) in the courtyard and was delicious Moroccan bread items and tea. The nightwatchman (Abdul) was very friendly and chatty, and meant you could come back at any time. The location is great - a couple minutes walk to Jemaa El-Fnaa square, but the riad is so peaceful and quiet you wouldn't think it was so close. We felt really looked after, and weren't ready to leave after our 4 nights. We would really love to come back! Thank you!
This was, hands down, the best accommodation and service i have had on a holiday. Latifa and Abdul were amazing, both locals, Latifa from Marrakesh and Abdul's family lives in a Berber village at the edge of Sahara. They both had amazing life stories and were always available for a chat or even a long discussion. Both of them amazing people and they will make your stay really comfortable and are always around if you need anything.
The room was really clean, the riad looks amazing and the roof terrace is the best place to read a book if you want a slow day. We had a taxi booked to pick us up from the airport and to drop us off on the last day, there was always cold water at the Riad (so good after a hot day of vising), and the breakfast was traditional and really tasty. We had traditional pancakes, traditional yogurt (home made at the Riad) and traditional tea (mint tea) every morning, all of this with either a croissant or cake with a lot of jam options, 2 eggs as you like them (omelette, boiled, fried), coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. So the breakfast was big enough that you could skip lunch if you wanted to.
Latifa also arranged for us (at our request of course) a day trip to the Ourika valley and we got to see a bit of the Atlas mountains as well. They suggested the best places to visit and eat, i wanted to buy some Argan oil so she told me where the best shop that all the locals use is.
We had dinner at the Riad one night as well, and the food was by far the best food we had in Marrakesh, 3 course meal, with a traditional tagine as the main dish (so tasty!)
The Riad was also located really close to everything, i think it is exactly in the middle of the Medina (the old city) on one of the side streets, so close to everything and really quiet, the perfect combination! The pictures on the listing look good, but in person it is even better, everything is clean and there is a lot of attention to detail, it's like living in 100% traditional Moroccan house with all the amenities you get in the UK.
