Description

The space

Just a minute’s stroll from the bustling Jemaa El Fna, l’Orientale is a haven of peace and tranquillity, where we aim to delight all your senses. We place great importance on good traditional Moroccan cooking, comfortable beds and the warmest of welcomes, all within a traditional and elegant environment.

This listing is for a private room with a double bed and the option of adding a single bed if needed. There is an en-suite bathroom with a shower and towels are included.

Whether your stay is just overnight or for a week or longer, we hope you will feel, as many of our guests do, that you have found a new home in Marrakech to which you will want to return.

Guest access

Other than the room itself, we have a good selection of areas throughout the riad where you can relax, slumber with a book and sip mint tea. Downstairs we have two traditional salons, one with a large fireplace which we use for cold winter evenings. The courtyard itself is available for using at all times of the day.

On the top floor, we have a glorious sun terrace which is broken into separate areas and levels to maximise privacy. There is a sunshade for those who chose not to sit directly in the sun as well as four sunbeds on the very top terrace where you can spend an afternoon gently tanning!

Interaction with guests

Our manager Latifa will be present daily to welcome guests and to ensure you have everything you need. We also have a night man who looks after the house and guests from early evening through to the morning, in addition to our excellent team of cooks and cleaners.

Getting around

Taxis to and from the airport can be arranged and we can assist you with reliable car and minibus hire, either self-drive or with a driver.

Parking nearby is possible, although with the small streets of the medina its not possible to drive to the riad. It is 4-5 mins walk from the nearest car park.

If you're arriving under your own steam, just let us know when you're due to arrive and we can meet you at the main square and show you the way back to the riad and help you with your bags.

Other things to note

Our authentic Moroccan breakfasts are included in the cost of your stay. In addition lunch and dinner can be provided on request. Aziz will serve your dinner by candle-light in the courtyard, or in winter, beside a cedar log fire in the Salon.

Our food is all home cooked, with a great emphasis on quality local ingredients which are all freshly bought daily.

In addition to keeping your room clean and tidy, our staff are happy to take care of your personal laundry on request.

There is free Wi-Fi access throughout the Riad, for those who just cannot bear to be out of touch with the world!

Latifa will be happy to suggest interesting trips and help you to make any necessary arrangements.

We're really not a place that has a "set of rules" - we aim to be a home from home, not a strict hotel. However, we obviously expect our guests to be considerate of others and to not make too much noise if leaving for a 5am flight from the airport!

We found this riad on airbnb and booked it based on the many wonderful reviews. Our time there was no different. We were treated with such kindness. We were picked up at the airport and were guided to our riad by Latifah. Upon arrival, Latifah served us "Morricon whiskey" (mint tea) and answered all the questions we had and gave awesome suggestions for lunch/dinner and activities. The room was cleaned everyday with fresh sheets and towels. Breakfast was complimentary and delicious! If and when we come back to Marrakech, we would totally stay here again!

Our stay in Marrakech was truly wonderful, thanks to Hugo and his fantastic staff. Latifa and Ahmin made us feel at home immediately, and we were happy to try out at least some of their recommendations. We were lucky to have stayed a whole week in the room at the top of the terrace, where breakfast is served daily. The location is very good as the main square is very close, yet inside the riad there is total calm and serenity. Can't wait to come back to Marrakech soon and stay at Hugo's place again!

The riad was really beautiful. We stayed in the suite on the terrace level which was spacious with great views. The riad felt very secure as there was always a caretaker there. Youssef and Latifah (who were managing it during our stay) couldn't have been more friendly or helpful! We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends!

An oasis in the middle of the Medina. Great place to relax and unwind after a long day sightseeing and shopping in the souks. Very centrally located, the staff are kind and accommodating, would recommend to anyone staying in Marrakech!

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful riad which is situated in an amazing location. This is truely an oasis in the centre of such a fun and bustling city. We had a fabulous break which was made stress free by latifa, youseff, nezha and hayat. They all could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Latifa met us from the taxi and was extremely helpful by orientating us to the area with helpful tips on where to go and the best places to eat. She made us feel really at home and the mint tea on arrival was a great refreshment. Youseff was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Again he was incredibly helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was fantastic with a huge selection served in the sun on the roof top terrace which was very much appreciated. The rooms were very clean and freshly made up every day. The whole riad was stunning and incredibly well looked after and presented. Nezha and Hayat were both very friendly and clearly worked hard to keep such a beautiful and clean riad. We ate in for a meal one night which was cooked to perfection by Nezha. It was a delicious example of morrocan home cooking and youseff was a wonderful host. This was a great break and we will be back with all our friends. We highly recommend it!

Loved Hugo's place! But what made it most special was the staff. They were so helpful and personally invested in the riad. It was a pleasure to come back every evening. They give you great tips about the city and where to eat or what day trips to take. Also, the private transport arranged to pick you up at the airport is totally worth it at €15.

This fantastic Riyadh next to the Square couldn't be better. And what makes it better is the service and the lovely stuff. I felt right at home

Hugo User ProfileHugo is a superhost.

I (unfortunately!) live full-time in London, so Latifa will host you in Marrakech. Her and I have been running this little haven of peace in this ancient city for over 12 years now...

If you need anything or have any questions prior to booking, don't hesitate to ask me via Airbnb. Once you've arrived, Latifa will be able to assist you with the best tips regarding the city. She is a born and bred in "Marrakech" and knows it very well indeed - she's also the best host you'll ever meet!

Send through any questions and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
