We're a traditional, family-owned and run riad situated in the heart of the Medina in Marrakech. It is a perfect example of a a two hundred and fifty year old Moroccan courtyard house. We are a Moroccan home-from-home.
Just a minute’s stroll from the bustling Jemaa El Fna, l’Orientale is a haven of peace and tranquillity, where we aim to delight all your senses. We place great importance on good traditional Moroccan cooking, comfortable beds and the warmest of welcomes, all within a traditional and elegant environment.
This listing is for a private room with a double bed and the option of adding a single bed if needed. There is an en-suite bathroom with a shower and towels are included.
Whether your stay is just overnight or for a week or longer, we hope you will feel, as many of our guests do, that you have found a new home in Marrakech to which you will want to return.
Other than the room itself, we have a good selection of areas throughout the riad where you can relax, slumber with a book and sip mint tea. Downstairs we have two traditional salons, one with a large fireplace which we use for cold winter evenings. The courtyard itself is available for using at all times of the day.
On the top floor, we have a glorious sun terrace which is broken into separate areas and levels to maximise privacy. There is a sunshade for those who chose not to sit directly in the sun as well as four sunbeds on the very top terrace where you can spend an afternoon gently tanning!
Interaction with Guests
Our manager Latifa will be present daily to welcome guests and to ensure you have everything you need. We also have a night man who looks after the house and guests from early evening through to the morning, in addition to our excellent team of cooks and cleaners.
Taxis to and from the airport can be arranged and we can assist you with reliable car and minibus hire, either self-drive or with a driver.
Parking nearby is possible, although with the small streets of the medina its not possible to drive to the riad. It is 4-5 mins walk from the nearest car park.
If you're arriving under your own steam, just let us know when you're due to arrive and we can meet you at the main square and show you the way back to the riad and help you with your bags.
Other Things to Note
Our authentic Moroccan breakfasts are included in the cost of your stay. In addition lunch and dinner can be provided on request. Aziz will serve your dinner by candle-light in the courtyard, or in winter, beside a cedar log fire in the Salon.
Our food is all home cooked, with a great emphasis on quality local ingredients which are all freshly bought daily.
In addition to keeping your room clean and tidy, our staff are happy to take care of your personal laundry on request.
There is free Wi-Fi access throughout the Riad, for those who just cannot bear to be out of touch with the world!
Latifa will be happy to suggest interesting trips and help you to make any necessary arrangements.
We're really not a place that has a "set of rules" - we aim to be a home from home, not a strict hotel. However, we obviously expect our guests to be considerate of others and to not make too much noise if leaving for a 5am flight from the airport!
Hugo's Riad is absolutely amazing!!!! It's beautiful, clean, and in the perfect location. We had a wonderful time. Latifa the host was incredibly helpful and hospitable throughout our stay, as were the rest of the staff there. Although Hugo wasn't there, he was very easily contactable so all round everything was perfect. Also, the breakfast is amazing!!! The Moroccan pancakes are out of this world (I'm still dreaming about them...) We'd 100% stay here again and wish we stayed for longer! Thanks so much.
Extremely nice staff, made us feel at home immediately.
Sent us a driver to the airport and answered to all of our questions .
Dette ble 11 fantastiske dager. Vår første reise til Marrakesh. Verten tok veldig godt imot oss.
We loved it! After one night at the Riad, we started to call it home. A great base for all our adventures in the Atlas Mountains and beyond.
Our stay at the Riad de l'Orientale was wonderful. We were warmly welcomed by Latifa and some hot mint tea. The rooms were very clean and the showers were hot. The Riad itself is beautiful, in a great location to walk to the souks and the main square, safe at night and the staff were very friendly to chat with. Abdul was very kind. It was nice that Hugo was there on vacation when we arrived, so we were able to meet each other. I would recommend anyone to stay at this Riad. Thanks for a lovely stay in Marrakech, Hugo, Latifa and Abdul!
Location and Riad itself left very nice impression! Staf of Riad was very friendly and helpful. In the early morning and evening it was quite cold due to the season, so i would recommend to be prepaired because the breakfast is served at the open area of Riad. The bedrooms were heated though. Every day the rooms were cleaned and we could use laundry services free of charge. Even our requests about food for breakfast were heard! Thanks for those few days that we had in Marrakech, Latifa and all the other!
Decent Riad that is close to the square (1min walk). The room was nice and clean and the night porter was really helpful and a lovely guy.
Was disappointed by the other areas of the Riad that were not particularly accommodating and really cold; We did not find in other Riads where the fire was put on for breakfast and the evening
Overall nice experience, the best thing been the location but did not find it good value for money in Marrakech.
