We're a traditional, family-owned and run riad situated in the heart of the Medina in Marrakech. It is a perfect example of a a two hundred and fifty year old Moroccan courtyard house. We are a Moroccan home-from-home.
Just a minute’s stroll from the bustling Jemaa El Fna, l’Orientale is a haven of peace and tranquillity, where we aim to delight all your senses. We place great importance on good traditional Moroccan cooking, comfortable beds and the warmest of welcomes, all within a traditional and elegant environment.
This listing is for a private room with a double bed and the option of adding a single bed if needed. There is an en-suite bathroom with a shower and towels are included.
Whether your stay is just overnight or for a week or longer, we hope you will feel, as many of our guests do, that you have found a new home in Marrakech to which you will want to return.
Other than the room itself, we have a good selection of areas throughout the riad where you can relax, slumber with a book and sip mint tea. Downstairs we have two traditional salons, one with a large fireplace which we use for cold winter evenings. The courtyard itself is available for using at all times of the day.
On the top floor, we have a glorious sun terrace which is broken into separate areas and levels to maximise privacy. There is a sunshade for those who chose not to sit directly in the sun as well as four sunbeds on the very top terrace where you can spend an afternoon gently tanning!
Our manager Latifa will be present daily to welcome guests and to ensure you have everything you need. We also have a night man who looks after the house and guests from early evening through to the morning, in addition to our excellent team of cooks and cleaners.
Taxis to and from the airport can be arranged and we can assist you with reliable car and minibus hire, either self-drive or with a driver.
Parking nearby is possible, although with the small streets of the medina its not possible to drive to the riad. It is 4-5 mins walk from the nearest car park.
If you're arriving under your own steam, just let us know when you're due to arrive and we can meet you at the main square and show you the way back to the riad and help you with your bags.
Our authentic Moroccan breakfasts are included in the cost of your stay. In addition lunch and dinner can be provided on request. Aziz will serve your dinner by candle-light in the courtyard, or in winter, beside a cedar log fire in the Salon.
Our food is all home cooked, with a great emphasis on quality local ingredients which are all freshly bought daily.
In addition to keeping your room clean and tidy, our staff are happy to take care of your personal laundry on request.
There is free Wi-Fi access throughout the Riad, for those who just cannot bear to be out of touch with the world!
Latifa will be happy to suggest interesting trips and help you to make any necessary arrangements.
Great location and wonderful hosts; only sorry we couldn't stay for longer
We had a wonderful stay at the Riad. The Riad is perfectly located in the medina, just a short walk away from Jemaa El Fna. Latifa, Aziz and the rest of the staff were extremely kind and helpful. They welcomed us with mint tea and Latifa told us about places to go (and not go).
The Riad is the perfect place to relax after a long day's walk through the medina. We especially enjoyed the sun terrace on the top floor.
The rooms are really lovely and everything is spotlessly clean.
The best part of our stay was the delicious (and generous) breakfast every morning that we got served on the sun terrace.
We can highly recommend Riad de l'Orientale!
From the word "go" we had a great experience here. Hugo was super helpful with questions beforehand. We met caretaker Latifah on arrival who gave us an amazing background to Marrakech and fantastic tips to places to go (and not go). She was so lovely. And Rashid! What a man! Saw to our every need and question. From breakfast to whatever hour in the night. We are planning to be back very soon. Thank you - we love Maroc!
Four of us stayed at the Riad L'Orientale from the 3rd - 7th January. We had a great experience. The Riad was tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and we were looked after extremely well. It's cold in the evenings at this time of year and there were heaters provided. The wonderful Rashid was there to make sure we had everything we needed including ordering us taxis and making us refreshing cups of mint tea, and we were lucky enough to meet Hugo early on in the trip and Latifah later on. Breakfast was more than ample and on our last night we ate a delicious meal at the Riad. Just a short walk from the main square this is the perfect haven. I am already recommending it to friends, though it's tempting to keep this treasure to ourselves!
Hugo and his staff were very welcoming and helpful. The Riad is beautiful and they definitely lived up to the reputation of Moroccan hospitality!
An oasis in the Medina, quiet and comfortable Riad.
Finding the place the first time might be tricky for someone geographically challenged.
Overall great experience!
Very beautiful and home-style place. The staff was very friendly and took good care of us. Highly recommend it!
We had a great stay at Riad L'Orientale!
Latifa and Zacharia were fantastic, answering all of our many questions and giving good tips for getting around and seeing the city. They even procured a couple bottles of wine (not necessarily an easy feat!).
The rooms (we had the top floor suite) were clean, quiet (despite proximity to Jmaa el Fna) and cozy and had airco/heating (we turned on the heating the last night - brr!). We even had our own terrace for a little sunbathing.
We were also able to do laundry onsite - very handy when traveling for a longer period of time.
We had dinner at the Riad one night and it was the best Moroccan meal of the trip - by far - do it!! There was also bottled water and offers of tea (mint or English) whenever we wanted. And we're still dreaming of those Moroccan pancakes!
Don't be put off by the rather long and dark passageway leading from the square to the Riad - it's perfectly safe and adds to the atmosphere! A little oasis just minutes from the crazy chaos of Marrakech - highly recommended.
The Riad De L'Orientale is a lovely place to stay. My room was amazing and had an authentic Moroccan feel without being too kitch. The house is a cool retreat in the fierce heat and the terrace is a sun trap. Latifa and Zacharia were very attentive and full of good advice. I couldn't recommend L'Orientale more highly, so much so I'll be back in a few days time for one last stopover before I head back to London. Thanks Hugo!
