The Union Pier (Berrien Street) public beach is spacious and we've never had trouble finding a place to relax for the day.
There are lots of great places to bike in the area - a favorite trip of ours is to ride into Three Oaks for a breakfast or lunch at Froelich's. Three Oaks is a quaint and popular destination with great shops of all kinds including clothes (French Twist) and antiques.
You won't want for tasty food options: The Stray Dog in New Buffalo is always hopping, Greenbush Brewery has killer barbecue and great beer, and for pizza cravings we love Patellie's. Three Oaks also boasts a super dive bar in Nelson's, and fantastic theaters - the Vickers movie theater and the Acorn for music and stage performances.
Also the house is a short walk to the Whistle Stop Grocery/Cafe (yummy take out) and the Red Arrow Roadhouse. A breakfast fave is Luisa's - just up the road in Harbert.
As for fruit and veg, it is everywhere! There is a farmer's market at Skip's in Union Pier on the weekends, there are mom and pop shops on many back roads, and you can either pick or just pick up blueberries from several nearby farms. For the organic fan, the Granor farm is super close and has fresh veg and events all summer. Lastly, we are solidly on the West Michigan Wine Trail and tasting rooms are just around the corner.
