The space

Connor's Retreat is a Traditional, Secluded, Irish Stone Cottage In a Rural Co. Roscommon Location. Sample The Traditional Irish Experience.
A Restored Stone Cottage In Splendid Isolation.
A Bolt Hole, To Get Away From Modern Day Life.
Return To A Simpler More Tranquil Way of Life. Rejuvenate Your Body & Soul.
Nature’s Silence & Infinite Unspoilt Vista’s.
The Cottage Sleeps 1 – 3 people, in two bedrooms, (one double bed, one single bed) & has a dining room, parlour, kitchen & shower/toilet room. The cottage has recently been renovated utilising both traditional & twenty first century sustainable materials & skills. We have maximised the insulation capability of the cottage by utilising such traditional materials as hemp & lime/hemp. A modern day compost toilet is an integral part of the cottage, allowing the use of a soak away to deal with grey waste water, rather than resort to a septic tank. Heat, hot water & cooking are all sourced through the solid fuel range located in the dining room, (FEED ME – FEED YOURSELF!) Sit & read, watch the world slowly pass by, or listen to music on our one concession to the modern world a radio/ipod dock, or take advantage of one of our extra's noted below, the choice is yours. There are numerous local activities available or activities you can arrange for yourself, such as; fishing, boating, walking, cycling, photography & art, golf, heritage research, beginners dry stone walling course, spa treatments & life coaching sessions, oh & of course there are always the pubs, to sample one or more of the local brews.

Guest access

Guests have access to the whole of the cottage & on those damp days that can occasionally occur in these parts, we have a small selection of books, magazines & games to help keep you entertained.
Kinitty is located just outside of Roscommon town in the West of Ireland & has good road access from all of the surrounding towns. For our international visitors, Knock, (Ireland West) Airport is less than a one hour drive away, as well as the usual transport services available to & from Dublin. We are also happy to provide a collection service from the local railway station(s).

Connor's Retreat is so charming - a lovely place to stay in a beautiful area! We took walks through the peaceful countryside and enjoyed the time away from our phones. Marion is a brilliant host - she was flexible about our check in time and there to explain things to us when we arrived. She left us with breakfast foods, which was a wonderful surprise! It's an eco-friendly home and there are even board games! We enjoyed slowing down, sleeping in, and being outdoors in the sunshine.

This was my second trip and the cottage is still perfect. Idyllic. The best part of this location is still the host family. They are super responsive and incredibly nice. They can help you with anything! I’m already planning my third visit.

Marion's spot is a peaceful secluded get-a-way. She offered great tips for things to do in the area and I really enjoyed cooking with the cast iron oven!

Idyllic. Rustic. Peaceful. Off the grid. You will feel the spirit of Ireland in this special place, which is not for travelers looking for high-end luxuries. You are staying at the end of a lane populated with farmers working hard to tend the fields, sheep and cows that surround the cottage in every direction. Having a car makes a big difference because of the remoteness. Indoors is as described. Well-supplied, clean, simple. The peat stove heats the cottage and the water for washing and showering. But the best part of this location is the host family. They are super responsive and incredibly nice. They can help you with anything! I’m already planning my next visit.

A wonderful stay out in the middle of the country side. This little place was far from town, so running to the store for groceries is not an option. We had purchased frozen pizza and it was an easy meal for our one night stay. The cottage is very clean, and cozy. The old fashioned stove (like grandma's) served 3 purposes- cooking, heating the home, and heating the water for showers. We took a step back in time when we entered this charming cottage.

This was my first trip to Ireland, and I was traveling alone. Connor’s Retreat is about 15 minutes outside of Roscommen. My suggestion is to visit the Aldi store in Roscommen BEFORE Marion guides you to Connor’s Retreat. Aldi had everything I needed for my 1 night stay (in addition to the bread, jam, eggs, fruit, etc that Marion so generously provided). I went to Aldi for snacks, cookies, and other items (Irish Beer :) Marion and her family have completely restored the old homestead into a eco-friendly WWOOF (Willing Workers On Organic Farms). This is a “back to basics” lodging experience, which for me was perfect. I spent my time reading and stoking the Rayburn Stove/Heater with blocks of peat. This visit would be especially nice for those who like to get back to “how things used to be” I would recommend it for those prepared to do a little work during their stay. p.s. This WWOOF attracts “Willful Workers” every Spring and Summer. They come from all parts of the world to plant, tend and harvest the farm’s produce. In exchange, the workers receive food and lodging. Not a bad way to give back to learn about organic farming and promoting a “greener” future! Thanks Marion!
