The Cottage Sleeps 1 – 3 people, in two bedrooms, (one double bed, one single bed) & has a dining room, parlour, kitchen & shower/toilet room. The cottage has recently been renovated utilising both traditional & twenty first century sustainable materials & skills. We have maximised the insulation capability of the cottage by utilising such traditional materials as hemp & lime/hemp. A modern day compost toilet is an integral part of the cottage, allowing the use of a soak away to deal with grey waste water, rather than resort to a septic tank. Heat, hot water & cooking are all sourced through the solid fuel range located in the dining room, (FEED ME – FEED YOURSELF!) Sit & read, watch the world slowly pass by, or listen to music on our one concession to the modern world a radio/ipod dock, or take advantage of one of our extra's noted below, the choice is yours. There are numerous local activities available or activities you can arrange for yourself, such as; fishing, boating, walking, cycling, photography & art, golf, heritage research, beginners dry stone walling course, spa treatments & life coaching sessions, oh & of course there are always the pubs, to sample one or more of the local brews.
Guests have access to the whole of the cottage & on those damp days that can occasionally occur in these parts, we have a small selection of books, magazines & games to help keep you entertained.
Kinitty is located just outside of Roscommon town in the West of Ireland & has good road access from all of the surrounding towns. For our international visitors, Knock, (Ireland West) Airport is less than a one hour drive away, as well as the usual transport services available to & from Dublin. We are also happy to provide a collection service from the local railway station(s).

Connor's Retreat is a traditionally styled early twentieth century cottage, in a very secluded part of the Roscommon countryside. Recently restored with the aim of being a deliberate attempt to get away from modern day living, the cottage is situated in splendid isolation, half a mile up the lane to the nearest neighbour, only an occasional farmer or his livestock passing by, a twenty first century bolt hole. It is quite simply a return to a simpler more tranquil way of life. A great way to rejuvenate your body & soul.
If outdoor activities are for you, there are plenty of places to try your fishing skills, several golf courses nearby, our we can provide a couple of bikes to help explore the countryside.
Eating out, there are bars & restaurants to cater for all culinary styles & tastes in the nearby towns.
Roscommon, Strokestown & Tulsk are all within a 10 minute drive from the cottage, with Boyle, Carrick-on-Shannon, Castlerea & Athlone about 30 mins away . Taxi's are available from the nearby towns.

Everything was great, from directions to getting, to the cottage which was very cozy and snug. I will absolutely recommend staying in Connors retreat, if you want to get away from it all, enjoy the irish nature (and cows) and just relax and be you.
This was my first trip to Ireland, and I was traveling alone. Connor’s Retreat is about 15 minutes outside of Roscommen. My suggestion is to visit the Aldi store in Roscommen BEFORE Marion guides you to Connor’s Retreat. Aldi had everything I needed for my 1 night stay (in addition to the bread, jam, eggs, fruit, etc that Marion so generously provided). I went to Aldi for snacks, cookies, and other items (Irish Beer :)
Marion and her family have completely restored the old homestead into a eco-friendly WWOOF (Willing Workers On Organic Farms).
This is a “back to basics” lodging experience, which for me was perfect. I spent my time reading and stoking the Rayburn Stove/Heater with blocks of peat.
This visit would be especially nice for those who like to get back to “how things used to be” I would recommend it for those prepared to do a little work during their stay.
p.s. This WWOOF attracts “Willful Workers” every Spring and Summer. They come from all parts of the world to plant, tend and harvest the farm’s produce. In exchange, the workers receive food and lodging. Not a bad way to give back to learn about organic farming and promoting a “greener” future!
We had an incredible time enjoying the irish countryside at the peaceful retreat. We had fun reading the story of the house, playing some board games, and operating the Rayburn which works unbelievably well for cooking and heating the water. Marion and Andy are great hosts that made sure we were doing alright. Finally, we realized that civilization is not too far when we visited the Famine museum a mere 15 minutes away.
Beautiful place to enjoy the peace and solitude of the Irish countryside. Found at the end of a long winding lane, with livestock peeping over the hedgerows this house is the perfect retreat to wind down in front of the range with a good book or a sketchpad.
