Private bedroom w shared bath in Hawaiian Beaches. Enjoy a refreshing outdoor shower, fish from the shore, or enjoy a Mai Tai on the lanai. We're sure you'll enjoy this home as much as we do, while visiting these enchanted islands!
Home is on a large corner lot, partially surrounded by jungle. Chickens and pigs frequent the yard and the black chicken even has a name-"Bess". Amenities include outdoor shower, ping pong table, screened in lanai (porch), microwave, blender, rain shower, solar hot water, free long distance in North America, wireless internet, towels, selection of dvd's, wood floors, beach chairs, safe, beach toys, surfboards, bodyboards (boogie board), board games, large selection of Hawaiian books and guide books, hammock, ice crushing fridge, washer and dryer. The yard has an abundance of fruit, including passionfruit, mangoes, avocadoes, ice cream bananas, suriname cherries and mountain apples. Depending on the season, there should be at least a couple of items you can enjoy fresh from the yard! There are couple of dogs on the premises, as I'm fostering them. They do not come inside the home. They aren't always here, but when they are, you can count on them being sweet and funny, and demanding a hug from you if you visit them in the morning! You may ignore them completely or take them out for a spin. Either way, they won't mind!
The whole home and yard, minus our room!
As much, or as little as they would prefer. I'm happy to be a tour guide, but I'm also happy to keep to myself!
There is the "Hele On" bus, which stops nearby, though a car would be more suitable for a stay on this side.
The whole home.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you like! I'm happy to leave you alone. I'm also happy to talk story with you!
Home is located in the lush jungle of Hawaiian Beaches-5 blocks from the ocean. This is a colorful local neighborhood, complete with free roaming roosters, ducks, and sometimes pigs!
The Hele On bus runs up and down Kahakai Blvd, and goes to Hilo where it connects so that you can take it all the way to Kona if you like. If you have a car, you can park it in the driveway.
My girlfriend and I had a great time at Amanda's place. It was a nice and quiet neighbourhood, very close to the sea, where you can see whales, if you are lucky (we weren't, ohhhhhhh).
The place was very clean and the outside shower was amazing. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking!
Amanda was very kind and funny, on the first day she showed us a secret little beach, which was amazing, so everybody who reads this, don't be afraid, let her kidnap you, it's going to be awesome.
Also it was very nice sitting outside at the backyard with her and having a little chat! All in all a very nice place.
The house was very cute and comfy, in a quiet neighborhood. Pictures are accurate. We never met Amanda---she was away that weekend, but she left us a key & instructions. We were hardly there, it was really a place to crash. Which is good because the internet information she provided when the reservation was confirmed didn't work---network name wasn't showing up and password didn't work with any of the networks listed. Sent her several messages about it and never got a response. So checking in for the flight was a bit problematic
We stayed two nights with Amanda, regretfully we were so busy we didn't get to see her except when we arrived for a few minutes, but her room and house....beautiful! The room is gorgeous, gigantic, and has a great island feel. The surrounding foliage, the location, and the sounds of the indigenous wildlife were an extra bonus! All in all, it was a perfect stay for our first trip to the big island. We appreciate your hospitality and would recommend Amanda's place to anyone that wanted to explore the east side of the island, or both sides as we did!
Amanda was a great host. She is very welcoming, helpful and friendly. She also has a good knowledge of the Big Island. Good place to stay for seeing the island, especially the East side.
I found Amanda to be helpful and knowledgable and went out of her way to make me feel at home. If you're looking for a place in the puna area, you might chose this bnb as its close to all the beaches snorkelling and hikes. Has a cute puppy too.
We staid at Amanda's house for 4 nights and both the room and Amanda were great. She took the time to hang out with us in the evening and told us a lot about the island. Most days we ended up doing things she recommended to us. The house itself is really nice and Amanda share avocado, passion fruit and lemons that grew in her garden with us which was delicious.
The room is way bigger than the picture says and was clean. She has one super cute dog and dogsitted two others while we were there but she made sure they were outside until we confirmed that we didn't mind them in the house. Amanda made sure they would not go in our room, though.
The house is in the middle of nowhere but that certainly has its charm and there are things to do close by - e.g amazing snorkeling in the tide pools.
Over all it was a really nice stay.
