Things to do right from Beenbawn Cottage;
Stroll 3 minutes to beautiful Beenbawn Strand at the cove where “Fungie,” our resident dolphin, frolics daily. Howls of delight from Fungie watchers on boats will alert you to his activities.
Have a swim in the clear cool water or borrow some fishing tackle and try your hand at catching dinner.
A 30-meter pre-Christian ringfort is about a five-minute walk from the cottage off the boreen to Doonsean (Dún Síon). This national historic site has Ogham writing on lapidated oval stones from the storm beach at Minard. I will give you more historical information and directions once you are here.
Pack a picnic lunch and wander up to the top of Beenbawn head. Walk safely along the cliffs to the stone cairn at the peak for breath-taking views of Dingle Bay and passing fishing and sail boats. You can see across to the Beara Peninsula, Skellig Michael, and Valentia Island where the first transatlantic cable linked Europe to America. To the west is Eask Tower marking the entrance to Dingle Harbour.
Interaction with Guests
I live on site in the attached bungalow. I am available for any visitor information that you may require and have many suggestions for interesting off the beaten path adventures. Beenbawn is so beautiful I want to share it.
Beenbawn is a quaint hamlet of 19 farmhouses a mile from Dingle. You can walk to town along the seaside by the lighthouse, or take the fuscia-lined boreen (road) past the track of the annual Dingle Races and then the main road until you come to town. We are a cluster of family homes by the sea with horses, dairy cows, and sheep on the hillside.
Taxis are readily available for €7 to get into town. It is only one and a half miles and the drive time is under 5 minutes. There are national buses that service Dingle with connections to other towns. The village is very walkable with numerous shops, pubs and interesting places to visit.
Other Things to Note
I have a friendly dog and one outside cat. I'm open to people bringing their dog on holiday as long as it is kept on lead if it chases cats or livestock. If you leave the dog in the studio while you go out no barkers please. I have a horse that I occasionally keep next to the house if I'm going to ride or drive her the next day. Please don't feed her without asking.
I work in the mornings so please be considerate of late night noise. Have fun and bring a happy attitude.
Had a fantastic time in the Been Bawn cottage with my husband and baby. Lovely cosy house situated by the sea, a small distance from Dingle town. Maureen was the perfect host who looked after our every need. We'll definitely be back!
A wonderful location and Been Bawn cottage is the perfect hideaway from where to enjoy it all. Maureen (and Ted) were very friendly and welcoming and there if we needed anything.
We would definitely recommend it and hope to be back.
A big thank you for a wonderful start to our holiday!
This was my first air bnb experience, and Maureen is REALLY the hostess with the mostest. The apartment is beautiful and rustic with a little wood stove that was perfect for chilly nights. The biggest bonus was the view, super close to the beach, and just a great place to relax.
Maureen graciously welcomed us to this space at the back of her home in Dingle. Out toward the end of a road that heads toward the water before you enter town, the place had a beautiful view of the sea from the kitchen and the lovely patio where we enjoyed some afternoon wine and cheese. Maureen left us soda bread, fruit and yogurt for breakfast and directed us to the best foodie spots in town for lunches and dinners to suit our vegetarian tastes. The place was comfortable with a well-stocked kitchen where we cooked one of our evening meals. We also enjoyed her friendly cat and dog. Thanks, Maureen!
Our family very much enjoyed our experience visiting the Dingle area and this was the perfect base for us. Maureen made us feel welcome and was very helpful. The unit was as described, and I would stay here again on our next visit to the area.
We had a great time in Dingle staying at Maureen's. The location is lovely and you can take a beautiful walk into town via the cliff walk. Walking into town via the road would be dodgy since the road is narrow. Maureen had everything we needed and provided great advice for what to see in the area. The studio was very nice - we stayed with our two teenagers and it felt fine for the three nights we were there. I would definitely stay there again.
What a fantastic spot. Most lovely house. Easy to find. Beautiful location and amazing views. Highly recommended. Just a minute drive from dingle.
