Things to do right from Beenbawn Cottage;
Stroll 3 minutes to beautiful Beenbawn Strand at the cove where “Fungie,” our resident dolphin, frolics daily. Howls of delight from Fungie watchers on boats will alert you to his activities.
Have a swim in the clear cool water or borrow some fishing tackle and try your hand at catching dinner.
A 30-meter pre-Christian ringfort is about a five-minute walk from the cottage off the boreen to Doonsean (Dún Síon). This national historic site has Ogham writing on lapidated oval stones from the storm beach at Minard. I will give you more historical information and directions once you are here.
Pack a picnic lunch and wander up to the top of Beenbawn head. Walk safely along the cliffs to the stone cairn at the peak for breath-taking views of Dingle Bay and passing fishing and sail boats. You can see across to the Beara Peninsula, Skellig Michael, and Valentia Island where the first transatlantic cable linked Europe to America. To the west is Eask Tower marking the entrance to Dingle Harbour.
Interaction with Guests
I live on site in the attached bungalow. I am available for any visitor information that you may require and have many suggestions for interesting off the beaten path adventures. Beenbawn is so beautiful I want to share it.
Beenbawn is a quaint hamlet of 19 farmhouses a mile from Dingle. You can walk to town along the seaside by the lighthouse, or take the fuscia-lined boreen (road) past the track of the annual Dingle Races and then the main road until you come to town. We are a cluster of family homes by the sea with horses, dairy cows, and sheep on the hillside.
Taxis are readily available for €7 to get into town. It is only one and a half miles and the drive time is under 5 minutes. There are national buses that service Dingle with connections to other towns. The village is very walkable with numerous shops, pubs and interesting places to visit.
Other Things to Note
I have a friendly dog and one outside cat. I'm open to people bringing their dog on holiday as long as it is kept on lead if it chases cats or livestock. If you leave the dog in the studio while you go out no barkers please. I have a horse that I occasionally keep next to the house if I'm going to ride or drive her the next day. Please don't feed her without asking.
I work in the mornings so please be considerate of late night noise. Have fun and bring a happy attitude.
Maureen was a very caring host who made us feel right at home. The house is clean, lovely, and just as described. Maureen gave us a pro tip on walking into town along the gorgeous rugged coastline. We left Dingle yesterday and already miss the walk, eating meals outside on the ocean-facing picnic table, and Dingle itself: the local music and charm.
My daughter and I booked a 5 day vacation to Ireland with the intent on seeing most of Kelly and Cork counties.
I had heard how lovely Dingle is so decided to find accommodations around there.
I looked extensively on air BNB for a nice place and kept coming back to Maureens Cottage.
After requesting a 4 night stay with her, she immediately responded with confirmation. Since then she has been nothing but a lovely host.
We were welcomed by her and her friends and pets and felt at home right from the start. She was fun to be with but also gave us plenty of privacy to do our own thing.
The cottage is in a perfect location for exploring southern Ireland. We even made it to the Cliffs of Moher. In the evenings there is always life music in the pubs of Dingle. The Cottage was clean and bigger than we expected and the beach right across the lane was amazing. The first night there we saw the local dolphin jumping out of the water.
I had been traveling for a few weeks and when I told Maureen I needed a haircut, she scheduled a hairstylist to come to the cottage. She was fun and did an amazing job on my unruly hair. I loved the cut! When I started to miss my puppies at home, she let me borrow her pup and we played on the beach for hours.
Thanks Maureen! You have been wonderful to us both.
Maureen is a very warm and welcoming host and her cottage is extremely lovely – bright and cheery, very comfortable and luxuriously appointed; and the location is heavenly, steps from a magnificent cove and coastal path and yet but a few minutes from the wonderful town of Dingle. My daughter and I had the best two days exploring the Dingle peninsula and town from one of the loveliest spots on the map!
At Maureen's recommendation, we visited the Blasket Island Center on our tour of the Dingle coastal road. This is not to be missed, as is the climb up to Eask Tower on the promontory across the bay from Dingle, and from which the exquisite 360º view offers a lovely vantage point of Dingle Bay, the Dingle Peninsula, the Ring of Kerry across the way, Ireland's two tallest mountains and back onto Maureen's special slice of heaven.
Maureen was great! I can honestly say Dingle was one of the best villages we visited. But Maureen was definitely the crown jewel of Dingle! The house was very comfortable and the view... the term million dollar comes to mind!
Maureen was absolutely wonderful! She was sweet, helpful, accommodating, and a total joy. The apartment was perfect for our family (2 adults, 2 boys ages 7 and 11). The layout worked very well for us. Also, having the wood stove was a definite plus. (We were there in May, and it was chilly at night.) The location was perfect. The beach is just down the hill, and there are lovely walks right near by. The beach is great for fishing, exploring and swimming (if you can handle the cold). The apartment is also only about a 2 minute drive to town, just close enough but not too close. The setting is incredibly pretty. Right now I wish I were sitting out on the patio, drinking my morning coffee, looking out at the sea.
Location is perfect， beside sea and beach. Only about 2-3mins drive to dingle town centre. Maureen is a very generous and welcoming host. The house is well designed. Private entrance was a plus. One of the lads was disappointed by the lack of wifi but I personally thought it was great that we could enjoy the scene instead socialisng on the phone;)
Maureen was a great host. She was very helpful with directions and recommendations for food and drink. Make sure she tells you how to get to the Tower for a good (short) hike and great views. The studio is attached to the side of the house. It was very clean and cozy and Maureen provided starter logs for the stove heater, which was a nice touch. Even thought the listing says no wi-fi, there is wi-fi available when Maureen is at home. We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay there again, for sure.
