I'm an interior designer, so the place is extremely clean and well maintained.

This place is absolutely gorgeous and I can't tell you how much we enjoyed our stay. I stayed here with my parents and we were all very impressed by the design and charm of the apartment. It's cozy, quiet, very clean and well located on 7th Street in the heart of the East Village. There is actually a Hastens bed in the larger room, which my parents loved and was their first time sleeping in one. I slept very well in the guest room which was far enough from their room for great privacy. We asked Serge where he purchased the bedding because the sheets were very soft, clean and comfortable. Serge is a perfect host and answered all our questions right away, and he supplied the place with wine, snacks and water for our arrival which is a delight and a treat. We received a very good inside list of recommendations for the neighborhood from Serge, and my parents and I took him up on one of the recommendations and had dinner at a fantastic Greek restaurant called Pylos. This was the best Greek food we've had in our lives and highly recommend this restaurant to all guests staying (it's only a little over a block away on 7th Street heading toward Avenue A). The apartment had beautiful lighting with very unique chandeliers, and all of the lighting is on dimmers so we could control the mood which is nice. There was good seating in the apartment so we could have a nice chat and a drink on the table, all we had to do was bring one small chair over from the master room to place across from the small sofa. The bathroom was great and we loved the old style vintage hanging rod for the shower. Thanks for making our experience so wonderful and cheers on the apartment! Highly Recommended !!
Loved staying here. The apartment was very clean, well fitted out and very homely. The location is perfect - a few blocks away from the L Subway, closer to a few other lines which gave us perfect access to both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Best coffee just around the corner and plenty to eat, do and see all within walking distance.
I've stayed in a few Airbnbs and it's always the small touches that make a stay more memorable. Serge left some basic condiments for us (tea, sugar etc), mints on our beds and, wait for it, a bottle of wine and some snacks. Unheard of!
The one thing I would say is that the water in the shower was pretty light and the hot took about 5 minutes to start up, which I'm told is fairly standard for NYC apartments (I remember a Seinfeld episode to this effect anyway).
Serge is the most wonderful host !!
When we arrived at the apartment it was very clean and with a beautiful decoration... This place Rocks !!!
In addition, some touches waiting for us on arrival (small chocolate on the bed, bottle of water and a bottle wine with a nice welcoming word !) This is the first time I see that :)
Serge has always been very helpful and gave us full of good places in his neighborhood.
The apartment is ideally located for those who want to come to NY to live like New Yorkers.
Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable .... shame not to have met you :)
I LOVE Serge's place. It's exactly as it was in the photos, but they don't do it justice. Charming and thoughtful in every detail, and just beautiful. The check in procedure was easy and the chocolates and snacks and wine that serge left were much appreciated. The bed is comfortable and the place was spotlessly clean. Totally recommended.
Awesome little place, with everything you need (bearing in mind New Yorkers don't cook so the kitchen is perfect for making tea, toast and heating up soup).
It's quiet at night, yet close to everything you need and only a ten minute walk to the nearest subway station which gets you everywhere fast. Buy a 7 day pass for just $30.
Awesome diner called Odessa, 119 Avenue A which is just a couple of blocks away. Ask for Willie the owner and tell him two English girls sent you.
Serge was a great communicator, checked that we had arrived safely and arranged for us to leave our bags on site for our last day so we could collect them before our flight home.
I know the flat's listing mentions stairs rather than a lift, arriving with heavy luggage to discover three flights of stairs was a bit of a shock but the rest of the time it wasn't a problem for us.
We would highly recommend Serge's little flat and will definitely return :-D
The apartment was perfect for two people or two couples. It has an authentic New York look, maybe a little tight depending on your needs(no real living room space) but your in NYC! so hopefully that's not necessary. Serge's service was top notch we were there to check out the restaurant scene so serge emailed me a list of different places to check out in the neighborhood which was really helpful. I really cant say enough about Serge's customer service !
I have just returned home from a week in NYC where I went for work and pleasure. Serge's apartment was perfect for both. It is close to all forms of public transportation (buses, subway, cabs) and if you don't want to take any of these, then it's very easy to walk everywhere. We got to discover some of the many eating and drinking venues in the neighbourhood and by the time we left, we were starting to feel like locals. I would highly recommend this apartment. Serge was very responsive to our particular needs and we certainly felt very welcome, even though we didn't meet him in person. But this was not a problem because we knew that he was only a phone call away if we needed him. I would definitely recommend staying here, especially if you like the idea of staying in the East Village with its eclectic blend of bars, restaurants and clubs.
Serge was a fantastic host - quick to reply, great tips and completely reliable. The apartment was lovely - great location, well thought through use of space, clean and very attractive. Thoroughly recommend.
We booked for 6 nights in Serge’s apartment in mid-December and stayed 5. We did not meet Serge but had email and phone contact with him. He was very polite and customer service focused. We did not however enjoy our stay in his apartment. To describe this apartment as luxury is a misrepresentation of the word luxury. There is a certain grittiness and industrial feel to this accommodation.
The apartment is on the third floor of the block and is serviced by a narrow staircase which can be hard work climbing with heavy cases. The apartment was warm but poorly lit (good mood lighting but a challenge to shave or put makeup on).
We arrived late on our first evening and went straight to bed. When we woke the next morning and made the bed we found that the modal sheets were grimy and has obviously not been washed from the previous occupants of the apartment. There was a change of sheets in the cupboards in the room so we were able to remedy this.
On the second night of our stay the heating system woke us with a clanging and hissing sound. The noise was quite loud. We spoke with Serge the next day and he arranged for tradesmen to fix it. Whilst the sound did not disappear it was considerably quieter and the radiator no longer leaked water.
We found that the water pressure in the shower was low throughout our stay and on the fourth day when there was little hot water we had to make do with washing from the basin in cold water.
To us this was the low point of a trip to a great city. We emailed Serge late that day to advise him of the water issues and the dirty sheets and also advised him that we be leaving early.
Whilst we cannot fault Serge’s customer focus and manner, we felt that the Airbnb advert for this apartment did not properly represent it that the cost was very high for what it was. Old apartments can have a charm with their quirks and character, but to characterise this apartment as luxury and charge a premium is pushing it.
I think this review is a little unfair because the guest tried to cancel his reservation just before arriving and was unable to get refunded. He mentioned he would leave a very poor review unless a refund was issued right away. This is unfortunate; for more accurate descriptions of the apartment please refer to the other five star reviews on this site. Thanks -Serge
Serge's apartment is right in middle of such a great, vibrant, fun neighborhood. Check in was easy, and Serge even had a friend meet us to help us check in.
There is no lift, which isn't a problem for me….
This airbnb experience went perfectly and i can only thank Serge for that!
Thanks and looking forward to the next NYC trip!
