Discover Cavalier Cottage B&B, a pet-friendly home away from your home and an attractive alternative to conventional hotels, motels and B&B’s. We warmly welcome visitors who come to this beautiful and diverse area of Western Massachusetts with or without their companion animals.
Since opening the cottage in January of 2012, I’ve welcomed more guests than I could possibly have predicted or hoped. It seems that Cavalier Cottage has answered a need for truly pet-friendly accommodations. I could tell you stories about the wonderful four-leggeds who’ve enjoyed country walks here, not to mention their terrific two-legged companions. I could not have imagined that I’d meet such a variety of interesting people when I opened the cottage almost 3 years ago.
Nestled at the base of the Charlemont hills and located on a very quiet country road, Cavalier Cottage is spacious, bright and comfortable. The live-in area is simply but graciously appointed, featuring ceiling to floor windows, a queen size bed, private entrance and private deck. The fully equipped kitchen has an eat-in area with a full size stove and refrigerator (in case you want to cook-in), and a private bathroom. Relax on the private deck and enjoy the country view. For entertainment, you can access Netflix movies on your laptop, watch DishTV with over 200 channels, or play classic board games. To stay in touch with the outside world, the cottage is equipped with Wi-Fi. Park your car in an enclosed garage if you need to. Amenities also include a delicious Continental breakfast with Pat’s English scones, a small but growing library, and a CD player with a collection of jazz and classical CD’s.
Cavalier Cottage is conveniently located to the Mohawk Trail (Route 2) and many outdoor activities: There are great hiking trails, river rafting, tubing, zip line canopy tours, horseback riding, tennis, golf, biking, snow shoeing, rock climbing, downhill and X-country skiing. The beautiful Massachusetts countryside, with its many quaint villages and towns, is also home to a great variety of iconic educational and cultural destinations, including MassMoCa, the Clarke Institute of Art on the Williams College campus, and many more. The area is a four-season vacation destination, from foliage time in the autumn, through ski season into spring hiking time and summer holidays. Time here is sublimely tranquil and peaceful.
A few more special features:

~For dogs (and their human companions, too) who love to swim, we offer a map featuring three wonderful river and lake areas.
As more guests have visited, many potential guests were unable to come because the dates they wanted were already booked. Because Cavalier Cottage can only accommodate one party of guests at a time, we highly recommend that if your desired dates are available, you secure the space by submitting a deposit, in order to avoid disappointment. Cavalier Cottage, a cottage for all seasons, is perfect for week-long vacations, weekend or mid-week getaways, writer’s retreats, house-hunting visits, and temporary lodging for relocated executives.
We look forward to continuing to share our cozy and comfortable cottage with guests from around the world.

My wife and I spent the past weekend at the Cavalier Cottage and we could not have been happier. Pat was extremely warm and welcoming and even checked in on our little puppy while we were out snowboarding. The studio was perfect and had everything we needed to enjoy the weekend and the fresh made scones and fresh squeezed orange juice in the mornings were a great bonus. If you are traveling to the Charlemont area I highly recommend staying here, especially if you are traveling with your dog. You won't be disappointed and if we travel there again we will definitely be booking with Pat again!
Cavalier Cottage is pleasant and well appointed; Patricia is a terrific hostess. I came up to the Berkshires to attend an event hosted by Williams College and really enjoyed the opportunity to explore the area. Both my Old English bulldog and I were very comfortable here, and I would definitely stay here again if in the area.
Patricia spoiled us with morning scones and orange juice. We can tell she is an animal lover and we support bussiness that care about animals.
The stay was comfy, cozy and most of all quiet;) the area is beautiful and we can't wait to come back next year. What a treasure this place is.
Thank you Pat for a wonderful time... If you make it to california, we would love to show you around.

Lovely cottage which is fully stocked and very well maintained. Patricia is an animal loving person with a big heart and is very helpful. Hope to be back to visit soon! Thanks for a memorable time!
Patricia was an absolutely gracious host and went above and beyond in caring for our needs. She has 5 rescue dogs and 2 cats herself and is very tuned into the needs of dogs. She even looked in on our pets so that we could explore the area alone for a few hours. It can be quite difficult to see sites like museums, shop, or eat out with 2 dogs. The place was nicely decorated in blue with colorful pottery and even bouquets of flowers. When she saw that I moved a lamp to the kitchen table, she went out and painted a light to go in that room. She was updating rugs as we left. the kitchen and bedroom/living room are a comfortable size and attractive. Would have like a roomier bathroom. Scones and freshly squeezed o.j. was a nice touch. Our negative comment is no reflection on Patricia - our Verizon phones would not work at the cottage or only sporadically in the area - I would definitely bring a good road map and alert loved ones that we would be inaccessible for awhile.
My land line is always available for guests should they need it. Cell phones sometimes will work by just going out on the cottage driveway will work but they will function well as one leaves the cottage and drive down to Rt. 2 and beyond. And Wi-Fi connection is always very strong at the cottage.
We had a fantastic stay in Shelbourne Falls. Pat was very accommodating and a great host! Her love for animals made it very comfortable.
My sister and I and our two dogs had a wonderful time at Cavalier Cottage! The location is perfect, close to a sweet town, Sherbourne Falls, close to North Adams, for a visit to Mass MoCa, and also near great hiking, skiing and parks. I'd recommend staying at Patricia's to anyone looking for a relaxing stay. She brings you delicious scones and juice in the morning, and has the kitchen stocked with milk, cereal, jam and really good organic coffee. Patricia is a wonderful host, and a true animal lover. Anyone traveling with or without pets will not be disappointed. But those with pets, will especially find Cavalier Cottage incredibly welcoming and a truly special place.
About the Host, Patricia
I am a 66 year old and "semi-retired". Born in South Africa. I have now lived in the United States for 40 years so I guess I won't be heading back to the old country.
I have lived in the Pioneer Valley of W. MA for the past 15 years. Before embarking on this semi-retired passage of my life, I owned and managed a private career school for cosmetology and esthetics (skin care) education and opened the first full service day spa, both Northampton-based. I have been involved in animal rights and animal welfare for many years.
My companion animals are a major part of my life. All are rescues but one.
I traveled extensively when I worked for the airlines back in the 70's and 80's.
I am a vegan (for ethical reasons and you can read more on this at (website hidden).
Enjoy "quiet" movies, mellow jazz, classical music, Barbra Streisand - difficult to name a favorite travel destination but I always kept returning to Bermuda.
At this stage of my life, it is important for me to be involved in activities for which I have a passion and to be around friends for whom I really care.
Of course, meeting new and interesting people is wonderfully energizing.
I do hope to meet and greet you at Cavalier Cottage.
Since moving to the Charlemont-Shelburne Falls area, I’ve become acquainted with Leslie and Ed Grinnell, owners of Eddie’s Wheels ((website hidden)). Leslie and Ed custom design wheelchairs for disabled companion animals and provide them and their care givers valuable guidance and support. I volunteer at Eddie’s Wheels and have the privilege and opportunity to meet many wonderful dogs and cats who seek wheelchair assistance to regain mobility.
I look forward to warmly welcoming you and your pets to Cavalier Cottage.
