The Blue Ridge Mountain House was absolutely gorgeous! It was squeaky clean upon arrival and looked as if it were newly constructed. I loved the serenity and the tranquility the house had to offer. I would recommend this house to anyone and will definitely return in the future.
There probably isn't enough space allocated to say all of the good things about this wonderful home in Lake Lure, NC. Jan is an excellent host and was incredibly helpful before and during the stay.
The home is well appointed and has everything that you need to have a peaceful stay in the mountains. The master bedroom is a loft setting with a balcony and large sitting area that makes for a wonderful retreat, especially if you have others with you on your vacation. The most appealing aspect of the home is the absolutely wonderful large front porch that has multiple seating areas and offers a most relaxing atmosphere with incredible views of the mountains. It is so quiet and peaceful there and the air is FRESH - this is something that I think everyone who lives in a city will truly appreciate. We live in a rural area outside a big city but it was still something I just couldn't get over.
The interior of the house is charming and the living room will certainly make you feel like you are in the Blue Ridge with the huge stacked stone fireplace and airy two story ceiling. The home has lots of windows that provide beautiful vistas of the property and surrounding mountains, so you will enjoy having all of the shades up. The kitchen has everything you need to cook/dine in. While we didn't use the other 2 bedrooms that are on the main floor, they are quite roomy and also well appointed. Here at this home, you can sit on the porch and relax, enjoy a casual lunch in the functional and pretty kitchen and then make plans to head out for dinner to one of the restaurants on Lake Lure or nearby Chimney Rock. There is so much to do nearby that this is perfect spot for kicking back and taking it easy or really enjoying the multitude of things to do in the area. From the beautiful Lake Lure and all that it offers to the village of Chimney Rock. We were there over Memorial Day weekend and after lunch at La Strata's (on the balcony overlooking the fantastic beach at Lake Lure) we walked to an arts and crafts festival across from the beach that was very nice with lots of vendors, food, and music. We also went to the Tryon International Equestrian Center which is an amazing place that, while not yet 100% complete, is a great place to spend and evening. You can have dinner from either of 2 dining establishments there or food vendors around the property and inside where the events take place. The night that we were there 28 horses competed for a prize pool of $75,000 which was quite exciting and this is only 20 minutes from the house.
Our host, Jan, was very helpful and available to assist us to find and access her wonderful home. We found the neighborhood to be easy to find and perfect, the views fabulous and her home to be excellent for our family's needs. A wild turkey even appeared one morning! Everyone was very impressed and we'd recommend this home to others in future.
The house was as advertised and Jan was very pleasant to deal with in the lead up to the vacation. The location of the house is gorgeous and the view from the front porch was amazing on a sunny day. My only issues were that the TV in the master bedroom was broken and that we had to supply our own toilet paper. From my previous AirBnB experience, that wasn't the case. Having to run out to the grocery store at 10:00 on a Sunday night to buy toilet paper was not something I anticipated having to do on my vacation. While I understand that I wasn't renting a hotel room, I was still paying a significant amount of money to rent Jan's house and something as basic as toilet paper should have been provided. Other than that, my family and dog absolutely loved the house and everything Asheville had to offer.
Brett, I am sorry the master bedroom tv went out while the guests were in the house the week before your arrival. I didn't have a chance to repair or replace it, as my mom was very ill and passed away the weekend of your arrival.
As far as the toilet paper issue, I left a roll in each bathroom to get you thru your first day or so of your stay. I am sorry, if on the 2nd day, you had to go to the grocery store. Other than those issues, I am glad your family enjoyed our house and the beautiful NC Blue Ridge Mountains.
My experience with Jan was a good one. She was very patient with me as I am new to AIRBNB. Communication with her was good, and her Home was very nice. Views from the house were better than I had imagined. The neighborhood was upscale and quiet with incredible vistas. Location was just right, not too close to everyone at Lake Lure, but not too far away either. Chimney Rock Park is also right around the corner, and it is a must see. There is also a supermarket that is minutes away. The Blue Ridge Mtn. House is Rustic and Classy at the same time. My family and I enjoyed staying there. Would recommend it to anyone.
I went on vacation with my wife and 3 kids to Our Place the 3rd week of July. We had an amazing time! The view from the front porch was spectacular! There is so much to do in the area that we only made it to Lake Lure for a few hours. My only regret is that we had to leave so soon. Among other things, the trip into Chimney Rock was definitely worth the price of admission and nearby Asheville is fun for the whole family.
Jan was a most gracious host and provided us with local information and insights which helped us maximum the fun we had during our stay. The house was very clean and well-maintained, and the blend of relaxing time at the house and the outdoor activities in the area gave us exactly what we were looking for in a vacation. Thanks, Jan!
My husband and I stayed in this beautiful log home for two weeks. We loved every minute of our stay and look forward to returning this Fall. It was peaceful and so relaxing. The sound of the crickets at night are amazing. We never saw another person the entire time that we were there. Jan was always available in a moments notice for any questions. Can't wait for our next visit. Lisa Skiffington and Randy Cole
Thank you, Lisa. I do hope you and Randy return to visit with us very soon. The word is getting out about the new equestrian center and I have several folks from Camden, SC (another big horse town in SC) calling about our house. Let me know if you are planning another trip down here.
About the Host, Jan
Ed and I built this house 7 yrs ago. After months of going there every weekend, working on it, we fell in love with the house and the quaint mountain town. We have made many family memories over the years and have loved this place. Ed and I are both business owners in Columbia. We have 3 children between the 2 of us. My daughter lives in nearby Hendersonville, NC and works as a nurse. Her favorite place is still on the front porch of "Our Place"
Ed and I love to ride our motorcycle thru the mountains, sit by the fire on cold winter days and love on our dogs.
