“Ancient Romance” is a bed and breakfast located in the wonderful historical and artistic area of the Vatican City, in the hearth of ancient Rome. It is just 50 metres far from San Pietro square and the Vatican Museums. Our B&B has just been renovated and it is situated in a splendid late 19th century building, in via Ottaviano, on a quiet pedestrian precinct.
The idea that gives life to our project consists in conciliating the luxury elegance of the style with a warm familiar hospitality enriched with all comforts and attentions typical of a four stars hotel. This is the reason why we realised three different rooms each developing a specific literary and artistic theme. Each private bath is conceived in relation to the room style.
“Trilussa” room is inspired by the 19th century famous roman poet. Its style represents the historical and social way of life of the early fifties roman middle class. The tuff walls, the baldachin and the artistic representations will bring you back to the eternal city described by D’Annunzio: sumptuous and rich of contrasts.
Hi Giorgio !!! It was very nice to stay with you, you were very nice with us and we really enjoyed Rome. I hope we can visit Rome again and we will surely stay with you !
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR EVERYTHING !!!
Best Wishes for 2012 !!!!! =D
p.s. I hope next time I can meet the owner in person ! =D
Great location. Next to Vatican's area. 5 mins walk to the metro. Lot's of food around. Clean and safe. The host is nice and helpful.
The location of this apartment is premium!!! This was the first stop on a 21 day trip. Our hosts were terrific. This is run like a hotel with someone usually in the office to answer questions and check you in. There was a computer available and they offered to print directions for me to restaurants nearby. The breakfast was awesome! Yogurt, fruit, bread, juice, coffee, an expresso/cappicino maker available as well as a toaster and microwave and mini fridge. Air conditioning worked well. Apartment was very easy to find with signs that led the way to the office. Daily service to make beds and replenish items in the fridge. (I did not expect this)Shower was great with consistent hot water. (We didn't always find this at other places that we stayed on our trip!) There is no real gathering area except for the table and chairs to eat at. This wasn't really a problem as we were out site seeing all day but when we were at the apartment we went to our rooms to sit and relax. I would highly recommend Ancient Romance! It is a great value for the price!! The metro is very close and easy to get to.
Michele is a great host: We arrived very early from our flight from HK and he had our rooms ready at 9am. He also gave us the best tips on where to eat and where to go.
Bathrooms were immaculate and the rooms very clean. We would stay here again when we come back to Rome.
Perfect location, a few steps from St Peter and vatican museum (sixtine chapel). Cosy, clean and well organized. We were fully satisfied with the 2 rooms we rented. Highly recommandable.
This bed and breakfast is wonderful. I was traveling with my mom, who is not able to move as fast as she'd like and is a bit picky. She really enjoyed her stay and felt quite at home, remarking how much better the b&b was compared to a hotel, which is a bit impersonal and less convenient.
GREAT, HELPFUL HOSTS: The hosts/staff were wonderful and very helpful. They even offered a mobile number in case we needed anything after hours. There was not a 24hr front desk, which you don't really need. We rather liked the privacy of moving around late at night, just like at home. We didn't see the other guests really, so it was like having the whole place to ourselves. When we needed anything or anyone, someone was there, helping us with our bags, offering suggestions on restaurants or directions, chatting with my mom while she waited for me while I worked on the computer or came back from a run -- or just welcoming us in the morning or midday.
Check out is at 11, and when we had mistaken it for 12noon, they were so very kind and pleasant. We felt bad, but they made us feel welcome, even on our way out. My mom remarked that everyone there was so sweet and good-looking too. They were so kind and patient because it usually took us longer to get out of the room before the usual 11AM cleaning.
WIRELESS: The wireless interent worked flawlessly. There's a helpful book with instructions on how to use wireless and the TV. Read that before pressing too many buttons on the remote, like we did.
LOCATION: The location is just a 5 minute walk to the Vatican and a 5 minute walk the other way to the metro to the center. It seems only minutes on the metro to the Spanish Steps. When we took cabs from being tired from walking, they were able to find the place easily because of the location and it costs less than 9 euros from the Coloseo, I think. Buses also seemed to run right to the Vatican, though we didn't take them (too tired). There is a post office just a couple blocks away. When I ran, it took minutes to get to the Castle San Angelo and over the bridge. I ran all the way to Piazza Navona, around and back in less than 45 mins.
LIKE HOME - COMFORTABLE, CLEAN & VERY CONVENIENT: The room was great. The design was elegantly simple and personal. It was like staying at a friend's nice apartment, which is what it should be like. We had a nice street view and kept the windows open in the morning for cool morning air. My mom loved being able to have hot water for her tea or coffee or snacks (yogurt, muesli, cereals, croissants, biscuits, pastries) anytime of the day or night. The cleaning of the room daily was very thorough and well-done. They left extra towels, which were pretty nice, at my mom's request without fail. The room was always neat when we came back. The bed decent, even for my mom who has back problems.
SAFE & QUIET: We were often up and getting back to the b&b late. The place is very quiet and safe itself; although, outside of the b&b all tourists should watch their belongings. We did not have any trouble at all.
GREAT DEAL: This overall was a great experience, and we'd stay there again. My mom loved it. I wished we could have stayed longer. A few years ago, I stayed near Termini in a place that cost about the same or more, but wasn't as nice. That was okay, but this was 500% better. I even preferred this location to that one, which was of course more central but a bit more stressful.
Extremely good location. Cannot be better suited as a location to use as a base for the Vatican and to tour Rome. Practically at the gates of St. Peters. Also, very good service, left luggage provisions and very good breakfast snacks. Rooms were bare bones and functional but very clean. Would highly recommend for someone planning to visit Rome, especially the Vatican area.
