Highly recommend this listing. While the house is a little older, the location, comfort, and especially the property manager, Donna, were simply superb. From initial greeting when we arrived to ensuring our every need was met or at least inquired about, Donna made the trip feel like we were the center of attention - usually not something you get except during a resort stay! My son loved the Netflix for winding down after beach days (great tip from Donna on where to go to get a more 'private' beach experience during the Spring Break craziness) as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
Even though our flight arrived very late, Donna, the on sight property manager, was very accommodating making sure we had everything we needed. I was delighted to see the character of the house, the lush landscape and the quaint cottage in the back when we drove in. The apartment had a peaceful and welcoming energy and we immediately felt at home. The front and master bedroom were much more roomy than they appeared in the pictures. FYI the front (west) bedroom got a little chilly when the temps dropped. There were plenty of pillows on each bed and extra ones in the closet and the beds were comfy. The a/c worked very well and cooled things down quickly. The bathroom was very roomy as well, nice big shower basin, good coverage and water pressure from the shower head. We never ran out of hot water even though there were 5 of us. The kitchen had everything we needed: coffee maker, microwave, toaster, blender, etc. There are a few staples in the pantry if you plan to cook meals and reusable grocery bags if you shop. Publix grocery store is a mile away. Most of the sunblock has been used up so be sure to bring some. The neighborhood was very quiet at night and most days. Downtown shops/restaurants, marina/harbor and park were all within easy walking distance. 2 bikes are available to renters. We navigated our way to the beach on the Jolly Trolley which you can catch downtown at stops on certain days. Check their website or call for route info or ask Donna who is always willing to help and responds very quickly to communications. We did not try to park at the beach but were able to street park (free) near the Clearwater Aquarium which is half way to the beach. From there you can walk or take the trolley the rest of the way. We also drove to Universal Studios in Orlando in about 1 1/2 hours. Overall this is a cozy, comfortable place that is very affordable and offers a good location. We really enjoyed our stay here and our first experience with Airbnb.
This apartment is great for the price; as other reviewers noted, this can be an expensive area. The space is pleasant and pretty much as advertised. The local manager, Donna, was very communicative and helped us manage our arrival and departure times without incident. She had the place clean when we arrived (despite late departure from previous guests) and was available to answer questions. We did not have any pet-odor issues as one reviewer mentioned (and my wife is mildly allergic so we would have noticed!). There was a bit of noise in the neighborhood, but given that it was spring-break time at a Florida beach town, not too bad. Thanks to Kathleen and Nick for making it available!
A couple of things to note about the apartment, just in case these things matter to future guests. 1. As the description says, a lot of great attractions are accessible with a short car ride, but we wouldn't advise this location for someone who wants to visit Clearwater without a car. As we knew (and as most visitors will know), the apartment is on the mainland and the beaches are on an island that can be accessed mainly by the big bridge in the picture. There is public transportation over the channel to the beaches (the "Jolly Trolley"), but it is unnecessarily complicated (with a stop and change of vehicles at the small island half way across); also, the Trolley is hostage to the traffic situation on the bridge, which, during the busy season, can be at a standstill for a long time. Kathleen and Nick have made two bicycles available, and if there are only two of you, these would be your best bet to the beach at busy times -- probably about 15 minutes, with a dedicated bike/walk lane over the bridge so that you don't have to negotiate much traffic. Maybe a bit longer if the incline of the bridge is too much for your cycling strength! On one occasion we walked the whole way -- about 40 minutes -- sunny and a bit hot, but pleasant, and great views. (We made better time than the trolley, and the cars, which were all locked into the slowly-creeping traffic!)
2. Most of the apartment has new windows that function well, but one bedroom has the older sash-style windows which are painted shut and do not open. This might be important if your party needs all three bedrooms and everyone wants to have fresh air.
These were not big issues for us, but I wanted to mention them here for any guests for whom these things are considerations. None of them would prevent us from renting again!
This 3-bedroom apartment is good value in the Clearwater area where lodging may be $600 a night and more for just a room. The apartment is a little shabby, if not chic, but a great “home away from home” especially for an extended stay. Donna, who lives in a cottage onsite, is a real gem, with great pride in the apartment. She couldn’t do enough for us. The 1920s building houses the entire-floor 3-bedroom apartment upstairs and a 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom unit downstairs – all airbnb accommodations. The upstairs apartment is full of light with lots of windows on the second floor, but there are some dings on the wall which make it feel a little tired. However, Donna again was so wonderful providing a comfy living room chair, lovely green coastal design shower curtain, rugs, towels, and especially the bedside reading lamps in the master bedroom to freshen up and provision the apartment more fully. Al fresco seating on the downstairs patio is available to share with the downstairs renters, and if you want more privacy, right off the kitchen, there’s a nice landing area at the top of the stairs to eat beneath the shade of a live oak tree and to gaze down on palms, hibiscus and other tropical flora.
Because I am a freelance writer and worked during our stay, I appreciated the desk provided in the back bedroom. Because the router is located downstairs, however, the wifi was VERY WEAK for online research, but OK for email. The quiet neighborhood is a little “spotty” with some vacant houses, but essentially nice for walking since the intracoastal, marina and parks are nearby and of course there is easy access to stunning sunsets! It was handy to have a washer and dryer available outside downstairs and to use 2 bikes to take advantage of the great Pinellas Trail a couple of blocks away. One of the highlights of the stay was a get-together hosted by Donna for all guests on the patio downstairs. Lots of fun, interesting and fellow adventurous people to meet – the absolute essence of airbnb!
Warning: Don’t bring sunscreen: there are enough leftover tubes (50 SPF) for an army of guests!
Spacious accommodation. .Property manager Donna was amazing her help was invaluable as on arrival we smelled GAS! the whole house was shut down, so no hot water or stove, everything was changed to Electric, we finally got a stove after 3 weeks, the Carpets were so badly soiled due to pets!!! A deep clean was done, we had to vacate the property. Accommodation needs a complete upgrade. The area is close to Downtown, Starbucks, and a few restaurants. Would not return. Our thanks to Donna without her help we could not have stayed.
In early January a minor gas leak was discovered on the property. Immediately we called in the plumbers, and the local gas authorities, to resolve the issue. The whole house was actually not shut down though because of the inconvenience we offered all guests in the three apartments in the house an immediate and full refund if they wished to leave while we resolved the problem. None took up the offer, and all stayed on. We converted the gas water heaters to electric within 24 hours, and at no stage was the apartment without hot water. Our wonderful property manager Donna, who lives on the property, immediately provided guests with electric stove tops, so guests could continue to cook whilst we purchased electric stoves to replace the gas stoves. This involved rewiring and permits, so it took a little while to complete. Carpets are fully shampooed and cleaned on a regular basis, and Sears came for a full carpet clean as soon as requested. Happily, the apartments are now upgraded and fully equipped with electric water heaters and electric cookers. We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, while providing an enjoyable and affordable place to stay in an excellent location.
We were in contact with Donna before and during our trip. She was such a pleasure to chat with and the place was perfect for us! It was quiet, spacious, parking was a breeze, and the outdoor laundry machine in the backyard was super convenient for us. There's some great recommendations for places to eat listed on their fridge – which we tried just about every single one of them. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better place. Thanks for the hospitality!

My favorite city is Cape Town, South Africa — with the legendary Table Mountain as a backdrop, and surrounded by two oceans (Atlantic and Indian), it is one of the most stunning cities you can ever see!
