Comfortable place! We were "newbies" to a hostel (I had stayed in one in downtown Chicago a number of years ago). Kristen and Amy explained the process once we arrived. The room we had was nice-sized private room. We used a couple of bikes from Wanderlust to go downtown to eat. (they had assembled a book with places to eat, types of food, etc. Staff gave directions to the place we chose). Comfortable spaces - inside and out to relax and chill. Even though we are older than the average guests, we felt comfortable. Thanks for the hospitality!
My husband and our son stayed with Amy & Crew and loved it. It was quiet, clean and the owners were fabulous. Thank you for helping make my boys trip a good one. We will stay with this bunch again.
Really nice people. And pets. The bikes were really handy. Everything exactly as described on their page.
My son and I had a great time. It was good to see Gunnison again and enjoy it with those at the Wanderlust!
This was a wonderful experience! I booked a reservation for a large private room for my partner and myself for a single night. The hostel was easy to find (even in the rain, at night, when we arrived), and in an adorable neighborhood (walking distance from the main street in town with coffee shops, shopping, and a breakfast cafe). We were immediately greeted by Amy, who was friendly and informative, and gave us a tour of the hostel (which boasts a lot of common space and a gorgeous garden) before showing us to our room, which was a well-laid out and spacious. The hostel is very clean.
My only criticism is that the room doesn't have great ventilation--in order to keep the room cool, the windows must be open (fine, there are screens, though you can then hear everything being said on the porch), and the curtains drawn back (not so fine in a private room).
A fan would fix this problem entirely, and honestly, I think if I hadn't decided I wanted one at midnight (when it would have been unreasonable to speak up--who wants to be that guest?), I totally would have been able to flag Amy down and get one, or some other different-but-effective solution--she's an excellent host.
I come through Gunnison every year or two, but this was my first time staying at Wanderlust. It won't be my last!
A very warm and welcoming hostel with a casual atmosphere. Amy was so hospitable and the accommodations were quite fine.
