We welcome *all kinds of people, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or other features. If we ask people questions before accepting them, it’s because they don’t have many prior reviews, and we like to know something about them.

The space
This private, light-filled lower level apartment in the owner's home includes:
- Private entrance that takes you past a lush, terraced garden (during warm season).
- Several picture-window views of the New Hampshire mountains to the east. In morning you can see the sun rise, and in the evening the mountains are basked in warm light.
- Bedroom with queen bed, walk-in closet and desk.
- New, modern open plan kitchen, with fridge, induction stove top, over-counter microwave, countertop toaster oven and quartz stone counters.
- Living area with couch that may be opened to a queen bed, and a smart (internet) TV.
- Full bathroom.
- Direct access to the laundry area, also used by the main house.
- High speed gigabit internet. Generally over 200MB download speeds throughout the apartment
- Security: This is a low-crime area. Nevertheless, we have a security system in place that makes it safer for everyone. T
- Electronic door lock with code access.

How this is an Eco house...
This "high-performance" home has a low carbon footprint, while being comfortable, appropriate to the surroundings, and well crafted.

- The home is all-electric, 50% powered by rooftop solar panels and no fossil fuels are used for heating or indoor cooking. Smoking is not allowed.
- Warmth is supplied by radiant floor heating.
- The walls and roof are super-insulated and windows are triple glazed.
- Whole house ventilation system brings fresh air into all the rooms.
- Hot water heat pump technology.
- Kitchen cooktops are induction, which is energy conserving.
- Front-loading washer conserves water.
- We try to maintain good habits: Being prudent about water use, turning off light bulbs when not in use, and keeping thermostats at 68d or lower.

Access to this country home during winter requires a car with snow or all-weather tires to get up the moderately-steep drive.

Where you’ll be

Brattleboro, Vermont, United States

Brattleboro (occasionally referred to as "the banana belt" of VT) is the hub for a lovely area in southeastern VT on the Connecticut river. We love being here because of the mix of beautiful outdoors, vibrant creative culture, farm and food, and warm, independent-minded community.

Our home location is both idyllic and practical. We are 3 miles from Brattleboro center, 1 mile from a shopping area with restaurants and stores, and a few minutes drive to access I-91 and New Hampshire. The house has direct foot access to several beautiful walking roads and paths, and is surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest and farms. There are many choices for hiking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. It is a 1-1/4 mile walk to pick apples at the 570-acre Scott Farm, and getting there takes you past Naulakha, the former home of Rudyard Kipling, where he wrote Jungle Book.

The back dirt roads within a 2-3 mile radius of our home are beautiful, and spotted with farms, maple-tapping forests and sugar houses, a cemetery from the 1800s, a wooden covered bridge, and other things that are fun to see.

There are several short hikes or walks that you can do from our house, without needing a car.

Our AirBnB guidebook lists activities and restaurants that we recommend.

We are a married couple (Tony and Millicent). Tony is a professional juggler and teacher of circus arts with NECCA (New England Center for Circus Arts). Tony has lived in Brattleboro since 2001, and Millicent moved here in December, 2019. We both love learning, nature, reading, hiking and travel but will try just about anything. We are both on the sustainability committee for this town, and very committed to that, and very interested in the direct democracy style of local VT town governance, that is here. I love art and design, and big, beautiful cities around the world like London, Paris and others. We do not have kids, but I mentor am African teenager near Jo-berg, South Africa, whom I like and care for very much, and am close to my family in NJ and NY, where there are young and tiny nephews. Tony teaches kids at NECCA and at various circus camps around the US.

During your stay

We will offer ideas and tips for things to do in Vermont, including local and regional events, if you ask. You may also refer to our AirBnB guidebook on this site, for our suggestions. We have traveled extensively and welcome people of all types, from near or far. We are big fans of AirBnb, who love meeting new people from all over the world, and have been happy AirBnB guests ourselves, many times. We have also enjoyed being AirBnB hosts on prior homes. My husband is a super host for another AirBnB.
