Nice location in Salvador, wonderful host, the room is clean and nice, a little kitchen is just perfect.
Can get a little noisy at night, but with earplugs (needed anyways in many areas) this is just ok.
If you are looking to be in the beating pulse of Salvador's historic centre and also feeling a sense of mixing in with the locals the Annette's beautiful home is the perfect location. Within 10 minutes walk of Pelourinho, close to Santo Antonio where you can see gorgeous sunsets and within walking distance of one of the best local Moquececa restaurants!
Annette is a gentle and inspirational soul and fantastic host. She was never short of ideas and information about what is going on around the city! It was the perfect stay but far too short and I hope that are paths cross again. All in all a ***** review from this Brixtonian's first visit to Bahia. Loved it and can't wait to come back!
Anette is a very charming and lovely person, always with a bright smile on her face. She's fool of very good advices about Salvador to enjoy the good vibrations and the traditions of the former brazilian capital. You can feel that she really likes the spirit of the city. The location is very good and could seem strange when you arrive in taxi with his tights streets but the neighborhood is very colorful. You are at less than 15min by walk from the historic center the Pelourinho. When we left she offered us two beautiful candles a way to remember her and our wonderful stay.
Anette was a very nice hostess, she provided us useful information about places to visit and to have some lunch, dinner or coffee.
Just something to let you know, if you've never been to Salvador and you're planning to stay at Anette's, don't get scared once you take the cab to her house, streets are very tight, a lot of turns and you can even get to think the neighborhood is sort of "sketchy" but it is not, is just Salvador, and at least for me and my family when we arrived we were a tiny bit scared, but that was just beccause we didn't know what to expect. In overall it was a great cultural experience, a l(phone number hidden)t to digest but awesome in general.
Thank you Annette!
Anette place is well located, near to Pelorinho, in a relatively safe area. It's near to the forte de Santo Antônio além do Carmo, a place famous for its schools of Capoiera.
Anette gives a lot of advices on Salvador, she is passionate about the magie of this city. Anette is a true artist, you can buy some of its creations at its place. She is very positive and careful on the well-being of the guests. The place is very clean and ordered, which is very appreciable. To be recommanded, definitely!
We had a very wonderful time in Salvador and the place was really very nice I can highly recommend.
I must say that Annette is the most wonderful host and such a beautiful spirit. She's cute too. That smile and big brown eyes just make you want to smile right back. But wait a minute, I'm supposed to review the location :)
Well, her house is filled with beauty, art and details everywhere you look. Her light and positive energy is everywhere in the space.
I really appreciate the time I spent in Bahia because of her. She introduced me to people I would not have met otherwise and provided me with day to day activities to suit my personality. Annette became a friend and more.
Now everything people say about the space, the décor, the art and the location is true. Her place is in the best neighborhood in Salvador de Bahia, a few hundred meters from the historic center yet tucked away on a quiet street. But it's not about the place. It's always about the people you are with. It is because of Annette that her place is so wonderful!!
Thank you Annette, if ever you need to get away from the sun, you know what to do ;)
We had a wonderful time at Anettes place. She has decorated her flat very lovely and is a great host. She can tell you a lot about Salvador, the culture and so on. She also offers very good massages if you ask her.
Her English is excellent, she offers free internet and water. You can use a small kitchen.
The location is very good, safe and close to the historic centre.
Sometimes it was a bit loud on the streets (but you might have this problem everywhere in Salvador). Anette offers two rooms that share a bathroom. We had one room with three girls that was spacious enough.
Overall we had a great time in Salvador and would love to come back :) Anette gave us a candle as a present when we left (thanks again). SO we still feel the spirit of Salvador at home :)
We originally planned to stay with Annette during the week of Carnival and then move on to another part of Salvador. However, after a week spent in the comfort and security of Annette's home, we did not want to leave and decided to spend the next month with her!
Annette is every you want out of a host-
Accommodating and warm- she makes you feel right at home providing anything extra (from towels to avocados) to make your stay more enjoyable.
Involved and knowing- She also cares deeply about Bahian culture, actively engaged in the local music and dance scene. It seemed that every night she was pointing us in a different direction, giving us suggestions of certain shows or inviting us along to her Maracatu drum group.
Careful and orderly- Annette's house is her own palace and she works very hard to make it feel both clean and comfortable for everyone. She expects the same from her guests and is open/upfront about her expectations. We never had a problem with the space due to Annette's diligence and hard work. She also simply cares about the well being of her guests- making sure that they both are and feel safe as they explore and navigate the beautiful, but diverse city of Salvador.
We can honestly say that Annette became much more than a host during our stay there. Although that may seem like a cliche on this website, that sentiment is nothing but authentic and real when talking about our friend Annette. She is an amazing woman and we feel very lucky to have found her!
My fiancée and I began our first ever trip to South America in Salvador and stayed with Annette. She was a most excellent host. The B&B is quite tiny with only two rooms and we spent 9 days there and Annette was exceptionally helpful with both directions, things to do and local customs. She really made us feel very comfortable in this entirely new world. She also invited us to several local events and while she was presenting new ideas for what to do almost every day, it never felt forced but more as options if we felt like it.
The area is very nice and romantic. There is limited shopping - at least compared to what we're used to in Europe. We didn't really find supermarkets. It's more like grocery stores - or mini-supermarkets. We walked almost everywhere and felt comfortable and safe. Everyone was very friendly and helpful even if we didn't speak each others language. All in all we liked Salvador very much - and much more than we had expected, as we mostly decided to stop there because we had to change planes there anyways. So a very pleasant surprise.
The B&B is quite romantic and has some limited cooking facilities and a tiny livingroom shared with the other guest (if any). The two rooms are quite different. One room is towards the street and is larger and has lots of natural light but also some street noise. The other smaller room is inside the house and only has one sort of half window towards a shaft-like but romantic courtyard. We stayed in the smaller room most of our stay and then in the larger room the last two days and we liked the larger room better because of the light and also it has more of a draft because of the two windows. It's a question of preference though. If you don't mind street noise and light early in the morning, you will probably want to go with the larger room. But if you want it more quiet and dark esp. in the mornings you should go with the smaller room. Both rooms and the B&B in general are nice and clean and Annette did a great job of frequently provoiding clean towels etc. and even baking. Our only complaint would be the mosquitoes. We got quite a few bites during the nights and it would have been nice (email hidden) over the bed or at the windows. Other than that everything was perfect!
