*The apartment is full of windows and is kept as clean as a very old building can be. There are no pests and no animals resident. I live here too (right upstairs), and that's how I want it to stay.
*Also, while this apartment CAN sleep six (or maybe even more, if you really need) after four adults it begins to be a bit small. It's a GREAT deal for a large family traveling on a budget, but I suggest managing your expectations if you're looking for a place to sleep six adults. You'll all have a soft safe place to sleep, though. :)
And please do check out my reviews!
You also have access to upstairs if you need to store your bags somewhere after checkout. Also, New York City can be overwhelming. If you're looking for suggestions on how to make the best use of your time/budget, just ask! I have a whole write-up I'd be more than happy to send you.
Interaction with Guests
I mop and vacuum and wash all linens and dust before each visitor, but please note that the place is OLD and there are stains on the floor that I cannot fix. Nevertheless, it is clean, and if there is anything I can do to make your stay more comfortable, I live upstairs (where if you have need you also have access), and I am almost always around. I truly want you to enjoy your visit.
C'mon, you guys... ONLY a 4.5 star location?! ;) The conversations I've had just hanging out on my stoop are some of my greatest New York City experiences, and you will be welcomed to the same. There are also some wonderful restaurants and pubs nearby, and much cheaper than downtown. I've lived here for over a year and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
That said, don't be surprised if you see some scruffy characters--they sometimes help me carry my laundry bags across the street. :) There is also a homeless guy named Tony who lives on my stoop. The whole neighborhood takes care of him and he wishes everyone a "god blessed day" every day, as an added bonus. There is also a police station in the subway station next-door, for an extra sense of security.
Street parking is free and easier to find than in other parts of Manhattan. You do have to move on certain days for the street sweeper, and there is an $18/night parking garage nearby if you'd prefer to park indoors or you really can't find parking for some reason.
Next door to the A/B/C/D express subway station (no noise, it's deep underground.) Walk ten feet and zip downtown:
-One stop (10 minutes) to Columbia-Presbyterian or Yankee Stadium
-Two stops (12 minutes) to Central Park/Lincoln Center/Columbus Circle.
-Three stops to Times Square.
-Four stops to Penn Station/Empire State Building.
-Five stops to Greenwich Village.
-Six stops to West Village
-Seven stops Chinatown/Soho.
-Eight stops (32 minutes) to Financial District/WTC/Statue of Liberty Ferry
All of these, you step out in the middle of the action.
Other Things to Note
Please note that $89 is a price I usually offer if I have last minute vacancies. Prices vary by season and day of the week, but I do try to sneak in some good deals here in there, just for fun. :)
Please wash the dishes.
Leave the house as close as possible as how you found it.
No smoking indoors.
The landlady is fine with this arrangement, so please help me keep this space available by being respectful of the neighbors.
Please enjoy the place and if you have any problems or needs, make sure to ask! I want you to be happy with your stay. :)
Christy's place is excellent for location. It took us a while to work out which exit to take to walk right outside the apartment.
We arrived during a mini snow storm, outside was -4 but the heating inside was excellent that it was almost tropical.
Good size apartment for 4 people, good neighbourhood and Christy is on hand should you need!
She is really nice. She was taking care of any need we could have. She even got some mailing on my behalf.
Christy was an exceptional host - very communicative and super helpful. Having not ever been in Harlem, she was able to help decide potential things to do that were local and man, what a great neighborhood!
More than anything, I had a wonderful time speaking with Christy and look forward to staying at the apartment again!
Christy was a kind and incredibly thoughtful host. She was flexible about meeting us at check in and made sure we had everything we needed. The apartment was perfect for our group of 4. Christy provided sheets, towels, a hair dryer, and even breakfast food and umbrellas! We could not have imagined a more generous host. Christy did everything she could to make sure our visit was enjoyable. Checking in and out was very easy and transportation could not have been more convenient with the ABC & D subway right next door. Do leave ample time for transportation, though, as the apt is far uptown. This was my first time using Airbnb and it was a great first experience.
Christy is a great hostess! She was welcoming and very helpful; going out of her way to be available for questions and to guide us. The location of the apartment is fantastic, with the subway literally next door, giving easy access to city centre. With a grocery store across the road, it was easy to buy food for the times we didn't want to eat out. The apartment had ample bedding and the kitchen is well set up with cooking and eating equipment. Thank you for making us feel at home! We love NYC!
Very enjoyable! My mom and I were visiting New York City for the first time and didn't know what to expect. Without question, Christy made the stay very enjoyable in every way. The space was absolutely perfect for the two of us and we had everything we needed and more. And, Christy was available to answer questions regarding the neighborhood and places to eat that were convenient and reasonably priced. The fact that the Subway was right next-door was a huge bonus for getting around and seeing the sites.
Next time I'm heading to New York, I will check with Christy first for availability!!
Christy is a delightful young woman who instantly made us feel not only welcome, but right at home in this spacious apartment. The apartment is fully equipped with a complete kitchen (there is a grocery directly across the street), bath, living space (second bedroom if needed and bedroom. The apartment has Wi-Fi. The space is perfect for two couples traveling together and would also be suitable for a small family. The apartment is both clean and comfortable (both beds are super). Older bath can be quirky, but certainly functional. Water pressure was great and there was plenty of hot water. From reservation to check out, all communication was perfect. Christy is very close by and is flexible with your travel plans.
The apartment is at 147th street in Harlem, but don't let that scare you away. The subway is literally next store and the express "A" train gets you to Penn Station in 15 minutes (or less). The neighborhood is quiet and welcoming and I would safe very safe. The building is secure at all times. We experienced no street noice as the apartment is in the back of the building. Christy has a list of restaurants and bars, as well as guide books handy. I would like to add a few discoveries about the neighborhood as well. Home Sweet Harlem is a fine restaurant about 10 blocks away on Amsterdam. We had a great New York bagel experience on 168th at Mike's Bagels. Just around the corner is a very good cup of coffee at The Chipped Cup and on that same block is the iconic Harlem Public. We attended Convent Baptist Church as well where we experienced an uplifting worship service. Baseball fans can WALK to Yankee Stadium in about 20 minutes! If you have business with CCNY, it is right next door. You can also walk to the Apollo Theater in less than a half hour.
I totally recommend Christy's place for a stay in Harlem. New York is so much more than Times Square, and I would highly recommend living in one of the neighborhoods on your next visit.

I'm a New Yorker going on eight years now, and I love my city and my neighborhood! I'm originally from Northern California, which means most people find me laid back and friendly. Because I use AirBnB as a traveler, it's very important to me to make sure you feel like you've had an honest interaction and received a good deal for the money spent.
I've traveled all over North America, Central America, Australia, and South East Asia, mostly on my own, so I know and respect the difficulties of traveling on a budget, especially as a woman. If you're staying at my place, I'll do everything I can to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. If I'm staying at yours, you can bet I'll leave it in as good shape as I found it, or better.
I appreciate the AirBnB community!
